I'll probably go with a Corsair H150i elite if/when my msi cooler fails. We don't really have access to all the fancy brands like ID cooling, Cougar or Antec cases, Seasonic psu's etc just a few big names like Corsair and Gigabyte. Annoying, but at least most of them are good products

For anyone using a hyper 212 evo, It is enough to cool a 5800x3d.
But, you may need some changes to get good temp. Here 5 steps I did to lower my temps.
1- use enough thermal paste (better too much than too little)
2- have a good airflow in the case and go for the positive air pressure. (More intake than exhaust)
3-add an exhaust fan to the 212 evo tower cooler. It lower the temp further by a few degrees.
4- set the fan curve to 50% bellow 60°, 75% at 65° and 100% at 70°. At 70° and higher, the cpu will work fine but will throttle down. Keeping it bellow 70° let it keep the boost clock.
5- use PBO2 tuner or use the bios setting to set the curve optimizer to undervolt the cpu. It is really easy to do and there are many tutorial arround. The simplest way I found is to use pbo2 tuner or activate the setting in bios. I set my curve to -20 on all core and did somes test and it is stable. Stability may vary for each 5800x3d but the majority seem to be stable at -20.
I hope it can help other with the same cpu/cooler 🙂
With these 5 steps, my temp are really good and my hyper 212 evo black edition cooler work perfectly.
I got a -10 average less temp than before in all scenario.

try putting more intake fans instead of exhaust, some morons place exhaust fans right near where an intake fan is getting air in which it will obviously suck the cool air out of the case

I've got a 5900X in my system and almost certainly went overkill on the cooler with a Deepcool Assassin III with the optional third fan. On the other hand, I got the cooler on sale. Yes it keeps the CPU temps under very good control. Since the case airflow matters more for an air cooler, I went with a Phanteks P-500A with 140mm fans all around.

Pretty much spot on here. I have a Noctua NH-D15 Chromax Black Edition on my 5800X and it seems to do amazing. I know Noctua is expensive but their products are just top notch imo. Their fans push so much air and are so quite. They also offer customizing options for their coolers and fans to change the colors to match your build/theme which I enjoy. My build is a blue/black theme so being able to purchase blue/black heatsink covers for my NHD15 and blue/black Chromax fans just make it all look really nice. Definitely on the high side tho. But with that cooler my 5800X boost as high as 5.1ghz in gaming and around 4.75-4.85ghz when under heavy load on all cores. Low 30s C idle, mid to low 50s C gaming, and around 65-68C under Prime 95 torture test. I think case airflow also plays a huge part in what size cooler you can get away with and how good they can perform. Often times I think if people are having cooling issues it’s their case airflow and not necessarily their cooling being not enough or a combo of both. Good airflow with any of these recommendations here is more than enough for a great experience. That new Deepcool Cooler looks super nice.

So switching to Aio would 240mm be any good ? I think I'll go with mid option and choose 280mm but , no exp with Aios , so does 120mm(240mm) fan running with higher rpm better than 140mm fans lower rpm (280mm) ?

Also consider the mounting system, ammount of wires, required headers, and extra RGB hardware and software...
    I got the EK 280 DRGB for my 5800X (280 top mount exhaust to try to get a bit more case airflow to help cool the GPU). Hope to have it delivered today! It really stood out for a few often overlooked reasons;
1- It doesn't use the stock AM4 "2 clip mount", but it does use the stock backplate and all 4 of it's mounting points individually (also it's tooless after initial installation)
2- The real killer feature for me is it only uses one ARGB header and doesn't require any special software or controller. Instead it can run off just the motherboard (ASUS Sync in my case) yet it will still work with most controllers/ hardware and software. I can add an ARGB/ fan controller later if I decide. I also really dig the look.
I plan on using a $20 Amazon 3-pack of blue LED (non RGB) fans for front intake. 3 into 1 PWM header with a splitter and call it done for now.

After I built my I7 6700k/TitanXP build I stopped paying attention to the stuff because I had a nasty habit of always upgrading and wasting money. Well after 6-7 years of not paying attention to the industry It was crazy how many options there are out there now. What started off as a graphics card upgrade turned into a new build. I went with the 5800X3D and it obviously blows my I7 out of the water. But I did not do any research into thermals with this chip and the 150W heatsink/fan I got for it was nowhere close to keeping the thing cool and would thermal throttle easily. I didn't want to spend a lot so I went with the ID Frostflow 280 and it keeps it 10C below the max temp of the CPU under full load which is fine by me. I can't imagine the top end CPU's, I mean this thing is crazy fast compared to what I'm coming from.

They work fine together and with a slight undervolt and OC the 5900X is a beast.

Serious question - I honestly want to know. Why Undervolt? Whats the advantage? Feel free to just link to a site as oppossed to answer, but growing up it was all about more power (I'm.... Though I am a bit worried about the clearance on the ram, the motherboard I plan to buy is the msi meg b550 unify and my ram sticks are the basic Corsair vengeance 2x16 kit so they aren’t too big and they will be in the 2nd and 4th slot. Do you recommend me checking the motherboard manual online for dimensions or is there a website that can help me with it? Thank you.

Idle temperature Cooler Master vs AMD stock cooler:
    AMD: 47°C
    Cooler master: 35°C
While gaming hogwarts legacy on ultra settings:
    AMD: 97°C
    Cooler Master: 65-70°C
And the best thing about it its the height. It is so small it will literally fit in any case no matter how slim it is! I would reccommend it to anyone with not a lot of room in the PC nor budged for more expensive ones.

Welcome to PC building! 12700K is fine, and it's gotten a lot cheaper. Make sure to get the 12700K, not the KF if doing video encoding work. As far as when is it "too much" it depends on your specific workflow and complexity. Some folks doing that work are doing mostly surficial stuff, some are doing heavy duty renders with a lot of effects. I think 12600K or 12700K is a good sweet spot, and I'd lean towards the 12700K with at least 32gb DDR4 3600 CL16 memory for you. Hope that helps!

I have old 2011 2600K with 8 threads and 16gb memory. It is quite enough but motherboard starts to die. So a new build is based on B550 chipset and some Ryzen 5000. My desire is to keep the build very quiet(i.e cool) - it is an audio workstation. While testing 2600K I found using Prime95 app combined with Core Temp app with a pot adjustable fan attached to CPU cooler very educational. Back in 2014 I ended up pairing a Scythe Kotetsu(good deal for 24€) with such potted fan.
Prime95 must be used to get clear picture about cpu temp in hard circumstances. Normal desktop use never needs any kind of push and temps are 50ish all the time for all the cores - even the 12mm fan is running dead silent.
My new logic(..for new possible 5900X build) is that if cpu cooler has nice mass then it holds cooling reserve to for temp dissipation peaks like small compiling tasks would represent.
I was lucky because Kotetsu weighs 645g. Now days there are other sumo class coolers in market with more weight to start with. They also must have 12mm or wider fans so that you can change it to custom one. For audio-ws build those fans must have very low min speed like 400.
The examples for lowspeed(start from 400 rpm), heavy(>600g), and budget class are Arctic Freezer 34 and 35, SilentiumPC Fera 5 and Fortis, Kotetsu Mark II. Then why would you not just ditch that minimum fan speed requirement and replace the fan(s) with you own high end choice? Then you can add Jonsbo MX400(925g) and Cr-1000 and PCCooler GI-X5 V2, Mars Gaming MCPUPRO and Zalman CNPS17X. Big heatsink is also dangerous when it gets temp saturated in case the fan fails. So in bios we must set the temp limit for CPU low enough to set some safety net.
