I was looking at the B550 Unify, but ended up going with the X570 Unify, as I found one for the same price. Was surprised not to see, as the B550 Unify was shown off. So one of the main advantages to the Dark Hero is the fact that you can set up the OC to switch between PBO and all core overclocking based on the power draw of the CPU. It addresses one of the weak points of AMD CPU OC that most don't even bother with. PBO is great for normal day to day stuff and gaming but if you want to max out the CPU for multi core workloads then PBO isn't as good as all core. All core is good for hard core productivity but not so much for gaming. Properly set up the Dark Hero covers both of the approaches.

My original build was a Gigabyte B450 Aorus Elite paired with a Ryzen 7 2700X, 16GB ram & an Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580 OC, it was a great system & still is. I recently got a new case the Phanteks P360A to build a new rig, I was running a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite wifi paired with a Ryzen 7 5800X, 16GB of faster ram & an RTX 3070. Recently I was browsing through ebay looking for some parts for a different PC build & I stumbled upon a Gigabyte X570S Aorus Master listed as “for parts/not working” only because it was unable to be tested. Apparently all the items in the sellers store are sourced from Amazon customer returns. It was listed for $150 & there was 30 day free returns so I decided to take a chance in ordering the board. I figured worse case scenario it doesn’t work & I send it back to get a refund. The board arrived a few days ago & I was shocked. It came in the original box, all accessories & original contents were also in the box still in original packaging sealed & unopened. The board itself was super clean & looked virtually untouched although I could see it was at least mounted at some point. None the less I installed the board & put my PC back together & the board works absolutely great looks nice! I’m super thankful I was able to snag a nearly $400 X570S Aorus Master motherboard for $150 which is just over what I originally paid a couple months ago for the X570 Aorus Elite wifi. I had ended up building my B450 platform into a Tecware Vega L case to have a PC out in the kitchen computer area.. only to disassemble that whole build 2 months later because I bought a new Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro AC motherboard & snagged an RTX 3050 for under $400 when they came out so the kitchen PC has B550 Aorus Pro AC paired with a Ryzen 7 2700X, 16GB of 3200 Mhz ram & an RTX 3050. I actually got an extra Ryzen 7 2700X because I ordered a working used one & they packaged it poorly so it arrived with over a dozen bent pins, I was refunded for the CPU & ended up preforming surgery to try & place all the pins back to their original position. It actually went very well & I managed to get all the pins looking like new again, best part is the CPU slotted right in & we got post. I think I’m just going to build the B450 Aorus Elite paired with the free Ryzen 7 2700X, 16GB ram & the Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580 OC into my Draco case that is currently unused since I bought the new Phanteks case for my personal rig.
Sorry that was a novel, I just thought it was interesting since I currently have 3 of the main 4 motherboard chipsets talked about in the video, B450, B550, X570 both versions regular & S

I watch this video late as I have already bought a PC recently and won't be buying for a long time. I upgraded my own PC with the ROG Strix B550-F which you recommended and the only thing I don't like is the lack of top RGB/ARGB headers. I could have avoided the RGB controller I have today as I need to get an extension to get to the header which is placed on the bottom of the board. Other than that it's sweet. I got it mostly for the BIOS flashback feature as I was not sure it would support my 5600X out of the box. The amazingly cool ROG "eye" logo does look amazing though and I like it tells you if the power switch on the PSU is off or on. I also think you forgot to mention the Asrock Phantom Gaming 4 board (I just watched the B500 portion of the video and I saw actually nothing from Asrock). Now, I have a love/hate relationship with this board because that's the one that's running the new build I put together recently for my son and it's running great on a 3600X overclocked to 4600Mhz at 1.2v. It also has plenty of headers and overall it seems like a really good board, allowing overclocking, decent connectivity (yes missing latest USBs but that's expected at this price point), and I think a good software suite (needs latest BIOS to run the RGB software correctly though). It is definitely inexpensive and low end, but there are two caveats with it. One, it kept crashing with 3600 speed RAM, it works perfectly stable with 3200. It did pick up the correct 3600 XMP profile but the speed kept reading 3200 with the 3600 sticks so maybe it doesn't support those memory sticks. Second, my motherboard was DOA and when I returned it, that's when I paid the difference and got the ROG instead.

Is a Ryzen 7 2700 too much for the PRIME B450M-A II? Its 8-core, but only has a 65W TDP. I understood from your 2021 review that the PRIME B450M-A II was more for 4 or 6-core CPUs because of the less-than-robust VRM, but this review appears to indicate that an 8-core would be OK on this MB. Objective - I'm replacing the MB in my parents' desktop (read that as surfing the web, checking email, Skyping and playing iTunes) and bought a PRIME B450M-A II to use with a 2700 that I have left over after upgrading my own system. Option is to get a 5600G, go with integrated graphics and stick the 2700 and old GPU in a drawer. Thoughts?

Hey jason, great video as always. But out of curiosity. You mentioned you would recommend the aorus pro - p up to a r9 5900x. So by logic, the 5800x3d would be fine there as well? I realize it's not out yet but I just had to ask. Mostly because I have a case that can only fit a MATX, ITX mobo and I have no intention of replacing it cause I'm still inlove with it.

x570 is not future proof. It doesn't offer any additional features that B550 doesn't have. It's just a board thats focused on high end creator workloads rather than gaming. So if you are a high end creator then x570 is worth it. If not, there is no reason to get a x570
