    I love that the defendant accepted accountability. A professional person is always open to correction. We need more people like the defendant

      I was going to say the same thing, but I think you clearly stated it. By her response at the end, she clearly saw the big picture which was her business. Even though she lost, she handled it perfectly.

      Same here! I was totally impressed, and her final interview with Doug sealed the deal. I think it was just the perfect storm (literally)-feeling horrible from Covid and probably being more stressed about it than most because she had recently lost her husband to it. And she has asthma! Then the daughter is difficult. Then a hurricane is coming. Too much at once. I hope her business is thriving.

      She lied about being in the hospital. She also said she wasn't going to do the party because of the daughter and then she's saying it's the weather! No she's a lier and very unprofessional! She canceled everything and refused to give her any money back and sees the person who broke the contract!

      @@lelegoddess she didn’t lie about being in the hospital, she just used the wrong terminology with the judge. The daughter gave her enough reason to not see this through. Next time I’m sure she’ll do it the way the judge suggested.

      I wouldn't. She lied from the very beginning. She swears she didn't tell the plantiff she was in the hospital....then the judge reads where she told her that. She automatically started stuttering. She's a big liar. I wouldn't hire her at all.

    That Plaintiff isn't a nice person. She uses her children to bully & intimidate, when hers doesn't work.
    I'm glad the Defendant was able to distinguish the 2 different parties. The Plaintiff lost the rest of her credibility after that.

    Excellent Business Legal Advice for new/small homebased business owners: have contract, flat fee based on service, detailed invoices, don’t RUSH to respond to emails/texts, don’t breach your own contract and have emergency proposals in place and in writing, do not discuss your clients matters with anyone other than your client 👩🏿‍⚖️

That’s not behavior that just falls from the sky, she was ok with her daughter’s behavior because that’s what she always does. That was the purpose of the plaintiff telling the daughter what happened. She wanted to apply pressure to the defendant for her party. Even how she spoke about the defendant being married again, wtf did that have to do with anything. I tell u ppl are something else when they get a little bit of money or education 🤣

      Yeah, I can be a bit pissy when I’m not feeling well. I entertain NOTHING when I’m sick. But there’s also always this little voice in the back of my head saying “be nice, be kind” She cries like me when I want to explode but I remember that I’m trying to be a good person. They should have just taken the refund when she first offered it.

    In the beginning I was not on the defense side but in end I totally felt ❤ 😢 for her . She totally 💯 has my heart. It’s not her fault she caught her Covid. She was totally 💯 apologetic. Maybe it could have been handled differently but let’s all remember you can die from this. My brother died from this. You don’t know how you would handle this until it happens to you.       I lost six family members in one year to Covid-19, one died at the age of fifteen & four of them had no health problems whatsoever, all of them died in the hospital alone. People who said that it was a "fake disease" are simpleminded as hell. Wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

    My father is a TAX attorney, let me say it again T-A-X attorney and my extended family was constantly throwing that around whenever they were in the smallest disputes. He hated it. And my father never even practiced criminal, civil or family law and people stayed calling him over dumb stuff. The point is, it doesn’t matter if your family is the president of the United States you can’t just use that to intimidate people!

      It unnerves me! Almost no one on People's Court can answer a direct question without unnecessary preamble.
      I know the litigants feel the need to add in context (which most of the time deflects from the original inquiry posed), but do it *after* the direct question is answered!
      Grinds my freaking gears, lol! 😤

    How the defendant went about things was just messy and all over the place. I understand the defendant went through something serious, but it was very unprofessional to block a client and not give their money back. If they are annoying you so much, either do what you were contracted to do or give the money back. That's the only reason you are here.

    I wish that the defendant counter claimed the daughter. It was wise not to bring her because obviously she's a hot head. The fact that the plaintiff admitted to basically tuning her daughter out proves that she was a wild card. The defendant received great advice from JM. I hope that she's still in business. I would hire her if she was in my area.

      Yes they presented themselves well and didn't get personal after the judge mentioned she was a bit rude about the defendants dead husband. It seems to me the daughter's attitude is the problem, now I could understand a bit better if she was paying for the party for her Mum but she wasn't it had nothing to do with her. So going in and threatening people is not the way to handle things.

I’m a professional caterer and this lady is nice nasty and has bad work ethics. she lied about being in the hospital. she never even contacted the DJ. she never paid for the cake. something else happened that she’s not saying. she either spent their money already or had other plans for that day. this lady need to really evaluate how she handled this whole event and change her business practices.

      The defendant texted that she was AT the hospital, she didn’t write that she was admitted to the hospital. She was at the hospital getting tested and getting a breathing treatment.

    The text proves that the defendant cancelled the plaintiff’s party for 10/01 (to be held on another date in the future), so JM’s ruling was the right outcome. It was so nice of her to give the defendant so much good advice as to how to manage her event planning business going forward and limit her liability exposure.

    The plaintiff is childish, uncaring and unfeeling towards the defendant’s illness and the loss of her husband. Sorry but the loss of her husband is so, so much more of a big deal than a birthday party. Giving grandma what she wants which is a FREE birthday party speaks volumes about the character of the birthday woman.

    I am betting the daughter spun her mother up saying she is owed 2k instead of the 1400 and something...That or the old lady is a scammer also...The plaintiff should have just shut down communication with the daughter and left it at I will deal with your mother and if that will not work then I will take that as a cancellation...And said if any drama or hostilities to any of the workers on the say of the party we will pull out and you will be responsible for the total bill...

    Loved loved the the defendant . She seemed genuine but the drama the daughter was bringing she was Not willing to put up with it ; and Indo t blame her one bit.
    As an event planner myself and as former resident of Jacksonville, Fl Inwill say this there weee some of the worst clients I’ve had to deal with.
