When I first played Control I thought that Ahti WAS The Oldest House. Or perhaps the consciousness of The Oldest House in human form. The Oldest House seems to have intelligence to it and Ahti moves freely within it's ever changing walls. Vacations within it's foundations. Ahti had some sort of special connection to The Oldest House.
I feel like, in a sense, a janitor is exactly what he is. Cleaning up paranaturual messes. In his own small way. Like a janitor, he goes unnoticed by everyone. Except those who need him.
Ahti is my favourite character in both control and alan wake 2, he's clearly a paranatural entity but there's something about his character that brought comfort and focus to me as a player when i was st my most freaked out or lost in both games, he looks out for jesse, alan and saga in his own way and none of them woukd have probably acheived their goals without his aid
In Finnish folklore there's 2 characters that both go by the name Ahti I believe. One was a God of the sea and the other a Hero. The way he talks about water, there could be credence to him being a bigger entity than anticipated.
@@michaelcreech8957mr door is definitely something… but he’s also heavily implied to also jsut be human… a parautilitarian human for sure. Since he is Sagas dad.

Ahti has to be some sort of god or god-like entity. The way he "escaped" the building in Control because he felt like a vacation just reinforces the fact for me. Also he was somehow just in the area during such a massive AWE. Either way he's just such a great character.
Yeah, in Control, there is good evidence of him being, at least para-natural and, at times, straight-up omniscient. His name being the name of the Finnish God of the Sea, and his connection with water/mopping is also very suggestive. In addition, I think his 'vacation to Watery'(iirc the postcard Jessie gets in Control once we finish all of Ahti's side missions suggests that he is in fact visiting Watery for vacation..) was just so that he can play some part in the mess that was about to happen there(and in Bright Falls). minor Final Draft spoiler below..... There is also a new manuscript page in the Final Draft mode called "It's Not a Lake" which describes an impossibly large Ahti taking water from the cauldron lake in his bucket and pouring it over the attic floor (alluding to all the janitor bucket instances where players could switch between Alan and Saga, or more precisely between Dark Place and the 'real' world).. seemingly playing a part in facilitating some aspect of the story(since we have to remember Alan/Scratch must have written the pages.. in turn orchestrating Ahti to do it in the first place? He also mentions to 'Tom'/Alan that "the work will instruct its Maker" when we ask him for help the first time we meet him in the Talk Show Studio-> may be referring to the fact that this part he is playing is written in by Alan..) but yeah, regardless of all that lore he is an extremely likable character😄, just makes him cooler that he is seemingly so powerful
he went to Watery because Ahti is friend of the Old Gods of Asgards, and he appears confused in the residence because he didnt deserve to stay in Watery, it's part of history because Alan Wake incorporated Ahti into it. @@-whatisgoingon

Alan realized the dark place had consumed him, as a result consuming so much back in the real world. We all have a “Dark Place”, and it distracts us from what’s important in our lives. Hänet verhottu on varjojen kaapuun
Monta tarinaa hänest kerrotaan

Hän peilistä sua tuijottaa
Murhan polte, se kruunu leimuaa
Tuon katseen tunnet, et voi unohtaa
Vaik' kasvot piiloutuu veriverhon taa
On yötön yö
Se järjen syö
On yötön yö
Se miehen syö
Puukkohippaan tanssi pian vaihtuu
Irveen päätyy jo verinen suu
Viinapullosta korkki hukataan
Tupen rapinan vaan kuulee korvissaan
On yötön yö
Se valon syö
On yötön yö
Se toivon syö
On yötön yö
Se rakkaan syö
On yötön yö
Se kaiken syö
Monin nimin häntä kuultu on kutsuttavan
Niin kuin kiroaa kuolemaa Kuoleman
Rukoilee synkkien myyttien jumalaa
Vihtahousua, Saatanaa, Vapahtajaa
Musta pilvi päässä kiehuu
Ulos räjähtää ja yössä riehuu
Silmissään riemu rajaton
Hän tullut on
Se tullut on
Kaivon pohjalle ruumiskasaan
Tästä yöstä ei selviä kukaan
Synkäs huoneessaan kirjoittaen
Onkii houreistaan sinut säkeeseen
Hän peilistä sua tuijottaa
Murhan polte, se kruunu leimuaa
Tuon katseen tunnet, et voi unohtaa
Vaik' kasvot piiloutuu veriverhon taa
