-How to repair a hole in an aluminum boat without welding. Full step by step process
-All tools and materials needed to patch up a hole in an aluminum jon boat
-In depth tutorial showing tools and tricks
-Showing the finished product after the boat is painted
This video was requested by an Instagram follower of mine a while back. I told him the next opportunity I had to patch a hole in an aluminum boat, I'd make a step by step video, sharing my method.
I came up with this technique years back and despite what some people might think or say, it hasn't failed me yet! I patched holes on my 14ft jon boat build, the Top Gun Jon Boat, as well as the showstopping El DiabLOWE build, both documented right here on the channel. This jon boat hole patch idea is how I did things long before I purchased a welder and learned to weld aluminum!

I have watched a ton of videos on patching holes in an aluminum boat and this video is the best one I have found and have learned from it. I will definitely be patching holes in my boat that I have that has several holes in it from the previous owners 16 year old kid breaking up ice in the bottom of it years ago before I got it. I refuse to think of it as trashed and now I’m confident I can properly repair the holes in the bottom. Tim in MI
Another fine diy video Mr. Jones. Your skills are to be applauded. Keep on posting great stuff like this.
Great looking patch! I have also used this method to patch holes in my boat, but I change from using Bondo fiberglass filler to the Bondo filler that uses aluminum in place of the fiberglass.
Another most excellent video. Thank you!
AJ you are the man, every time I watch your vids, I learn more and more tips on things I wanna do on my current DYI project boat, so again Thank you sir and keep them coming and God Bless from Middle Georgia
So good! Thanks for the tips!
Very nice and perfectly timed. I’m about to tackle a few holes myself.
If you're doing repairs like this. At least round the corners of the patch panel!
Not something I need right now but great video! Keep the DIY stuff going please 🙏
No doubt man. I've got some more content on the radar! Always open to suggestions as this video was a follower request!
Love it. Im a DIY guy so thats right up my ally
Awesome, thanks for the feedback!
Shit I'm a welder but i like the patch idea. Not everyone has the stuff to weld aluminum so thats awesome man
Great video! Thank you. Do u think I can use this method to fix hole at the tip of a deep v boat? Basically at the v I hit a rock and have a hole the size of a quarter.. I don’t have access to the inside cause the floor is in.
God bless you sir for this video! Saved my but when I cut a bench outta the jon boat I got and found out it was a live well at some point with a drain hole 😅😅
Glad it helped
@@AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats most definitely did! Got it patched yesterday! Now it’s time to get some materials to start framing lol
What about a little hole on the front part of the v below the winch hookup location?? About 2” right in the center
You got a beautiful gsp man
Appreciate that. He's crazy but we love him
What welder do you recommend?
Not saying its right or wrong. At least round the corners of your patch panel. Round patch panels are better suited and 8 rivets wound have been better. Js!
Instead of welding or using the 5200, would brazing be just as good?
Can u weld the framing with 120v gas mig?
How hard is it to pull big dents out of the nose
As always...Good stuff brotherhood! @anthony Jones
Thank you my man. Much appreciated
1:39 that bug didnt deserve that 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Save this!
🙌
I will never understand why the TBNation won't migrate to the solid rivets.
I have them. Doesn't matter in this case. All gets sealed and covered up. Use what you want though cuz.
Not everyone has a helper to buck rivets.
Where do you get your recessed drill bit
harbor freight has a 3 pack
How can I get in touch with you
How would you fix a big dent on the lower part of the hull. I really cant get it moving. Can you please do a video on how to straighten out a dent? 🫡
Amazing job btw! 👌👌
What welding machine do you use?
Titanium Ultimate 200 w spool gun and Mig setup
What is your welding setup?
I'm running a Titanium Unlimited 200 with upgraded spool gun, Mig, .035 wire, welding aluminum only. 1/8 or 1/16th.
If I have a hole that big I’m going to pre drill out my corners and countersink. Put 1 extra rivet in between every hole for more contact with the boat and my patch material. I prefer to do a 3M 5200 on just my rivet ports and a liquid gasket maker on my patch material against my boat. I feel the gasket maker puts a thicker coat and a better more flexible seal. Instead of bondo Im going to fill it with brazing rod and sand flat on the outside
Heck yeah man, that sounds bulletproof to me!
😮
Hi. I was impressed with your performance and your work is wonderful. There is a person I love very much and I want to help him get a job in this field. He is ready to give his best and he is very talented. I'm about to lose him. Maybe if I help him with something he wants, he will forgive me
Excellent video, the elitist who curse anything besides welding make me laugh.
screw em cuz! I've proved this method works and lasts for years on some very high end builds ive done! I just never openly showed it or admitted it.
