I'm going to cancel my game pass ultimate haven't touched my Xbox for a while. I've been gravitating to my steam deck playing a lot of elden ring, persona 5 and WWE 2k24.... I'll stick with my PC and Steam games. My back log is also stacked especially from all the season sales ...

It doesn't need to be this dedicated thing though. I've used GP on PC since it came out and I've canceled it a few times when I wasnt using it and than resub again if new interesting games come out or I wanna play a game I was playing previously. Microsoft's stupidest decision is to not offer a one year plan with a discounted price to get people like me but yeah I do like GP personally and will use it off and on as it benefits me.
@TerraWare That's exactly how I plan to use it going forward, when the new Gears drops, for instance. But if given the choice, I'd rather it buy on Steam for permanent access to my library.

This is a good lesson for those that think being dependent on a service or a corporation, it's a bright idea. Yeah, continue buying digital. Don't buy physical. You will be happy and you will own nothing.
Now you just wait till they're normalized and people accept that the new console do not have any disk drive. Then they will slowly raise to $3 every month or every couple of months till you're gonna have to pay almost $60-70 or more per month just to play the game that you already purchased. So people, yeah, digital future, have fun.

Physical games rarely even have the full game on the disk and need day 1 patches to even be playable. The only advantage of physical is being able to resell the disc.
@@EmergencyChannelthat depends which game and which console. XBOX for the most part their disc are empty, but basically every Switch game and most of PS4 and PS5 games have the full game on disc, they still making games with multiple discs. The day 1 patch is a different story, a lot of Sony games are unplayable without first having 200 patches. Nintendo is better keeping their quality for the most part without patching. I consume both media type, depends on the game and on the deal.

im on a Cancelling spree lately. I'm done with everybody. My Verizon bill randomly jumped over $40/month for no Reason. "economic adjustment" they called it. Psh They are Next. Everybody that tries to squeeze me is getting cut. Xbox GP is hot trash anyway. MS doesn't even make games anymore as far as i'm concerned. Cancelled that and my PS Plus. Waste of money. This Gen sucks

Funny doing a currency conversion all to find out the US is still being screwed. Japan game pass ultimate is only 1,450 yen or $8.97 US, while it costs us $19.99.
Yeah but Japan didn't get much game offering in their region from Xbox thus why Xbox is failing there. Unlike the rest of the world, Japan doesn't embrace digital as much.

Add up all your subscriptions and ask yourself - do I need them? Then with you new cash either reallocate it to other things, or question if you need new subscription services. Maximise the value you receive of your subscriptions budget. Don't just roll over anything.
My Steam game pass has been the same since 2012. Free-99 monthly. Yup free online play and free cloud saves.

They will do a slow boiling frog strategy. Once you won't be able to buy a console with these drives and everything will be digital, they will slowly raise by $2 or $3 every couple of months till they get $60 or $70 per month and the user will be able to do nothing about it anymore because he ditched his own rights of owning any media.
Subscription services are lame anyway. I don't see the point. You lose access to all the games once your membership is up. I'd rather own games outright.

They recently raised the price $14.99 to $16.99! Why raise it again so suddenly? I don’t pay for PSN since the price increase. Their tier pricing is way to much for my to commit for it annually. If they possibly had monthly plans I’d probably consider it. Since I only pay for game pass I may just commit to either 3 months at a time or 1 month. If I do single month I’ll put it on to automatic renewal.

I dumped psplus when Siny pulled this bs, and when my gpu runs out i will also be dumping that, so both Sony and MS will be off line consoles, and i am fine with that.
That really sucks for people. I went from an Xbox 1 to a Series S, but finally gave up on paying a subscription. I just play games that aren't online or games like Fortnite or XDefiant that don't require a paid subscription to play online
Play Halo ultimate you can play that online for free multiplayer
And heres why they want to make their servers the only thing we rely on to play their games - unstoppable price hikes. They dont need this price hike, they make oodles from selling our analytics, theybjist want line to keep going up. They did this before and they said sorry when we complained, but the smart of us knew theyre only sorry for getting caught and theyd do it again (like the always online they said sorry for with the One which came back to the Series). Sad to see the magic Xbox once had being replaced by underhanded nickle and diming.

Really by paying into these big companies online infrastructure we're enabling them the ability to buy off all the studios and further ruin gaming. Guess we got no choice though. I didn't get the part about game pass not being available for consoles anymore.
GP Console was only $10 a month, so they are forcing console owners to buy Ultimate at $22 per month, or else waste $15 on that new Standard tier. No idea why anyone would pay $15 to be locked out of new game releases since that’s the best part of it. I think that new “Standard” tier is there to make the price of “Ultimate” (all yours for only $7 more per month! 🙄) look more appealing.

PS Plus Essential expires at the end of the month and I'm glad it does because it offers exactly zero value to me.
Will keep NSO for now because cloud saves allow me to switch easily between consoles. Apart from that I'm neither going to subscribe to any other services where you get a handful of crappy games each month or an overkill of new releases that slowly bleed the devs dry, nor am I going to pay for online play.
Yea this sucks. But to be honest. I'm not effected by this at all. I don't do game pass, psn or nintendo switch online at all. I'm not worried about online gaming or digital day one games. I strictly buy my games physically as much as possible.

This happened before, and the customers went crazy. Then Xbox reverted back to old prices.. seems like they’re doing it again. It was bound to happen at one point only this time they have call of duty Activision as leverage.

My son uses GamePass. I’ve bought cards and got till May but after that I’m gonna have to tell him I can’t continue to pay out for it.
If people actually care about games, they won’t buy game pass. It gives companies way less money than just buying the game outright. It only benefits the popular/ trendy games

As a costumer though I care about what benefits me not multi million dollar corporations. This idea to buy games day one if you care (you're not saying this btw) is absurd lol. I buy a ton of games but dont have to buy every game I play if it makes sense. GP on PC is only 10 bucks or will be 12 bucks with this new price. Can easily buy a game too if I like it and want to play it in the future which by than will be even cheaper. But most of the games I have bought I have never gone back to play them again and I am confident enough to say this applies to the overwhelming majority of people.
@@TerraWare that’s fair, I guess if you only buy digital it makes sense from the buyer’s perspective but if you buy physical (and if the game is available physically) than it makes sense to not waste money on gamepass and if you don’t like the game to just sell it if you don’t like it

You made the right choice with steam sharing. The only thing you'll want copies of are games they want to play together with online as only one can be on a particular game. Steam libraries get so massive it's not that big of an issue.

Canceled PSN a while back and switched Xbox to Core, of which I buy from a 3rd party for a lot less. I don’t want their rent games, just to play online with friends.

They haven't even started delivering the full Activision catalogue. And the rumour is that these price increases is to cover the lost sales from COD alone. But they could easily make that money from selling the game on PC , PlayStation and even the Switch.
I mean, the plan is to entice gamers, get them hooked into gamepass and then increase the price lol. Why are we surprised here? The ultimate goal is subscription only gaming. Sony and Nintendo are gonna do the same!

I don't have any gaming subscriptions. Back when gamepass was 1 buck I got it for a month to check some games out, but that's it.
Due to financials, I have already let PSN and Switch online go, my Xbox runs out next year looking like I will be letting it go also. I spend too much time gaming on my PC that I am feeling paying for online for console is becoming less of a need.
I only pay for a month, when there is a new first party Xbox game I wanna play. Cheaper than buying the game, as I usually only play them once.
I’m with you. Need a bare bones plan with online multiplayer. Industry needs a shake up. Nintendo looking like the value play now so we should stock up now on subscriptions.
