    Wow. Sure wish you were in my area. THIS!!!! THIS is the fence I need!!
    I've been scouting out hardware/fence websites looking for this type of fence. Closest I come to is an 8" panel prebuilt at Menard's (currently on sale). What you're doing here is TOP SHELF. Custom built all the way. And that gate is fantastic. Thank you for this super-helpful video. I'll have to watch a few times, maybe find some locals to build this for me, or try it myself. Thanks again! 👍

    Look pretty nice trimmed out that way The only thing I would say of course is just my taste is I don't know about the gate to me it would look better if it would have been more opened with the lattice but hey whatever customer wants right longs are happy with it and you're happy to get paid That's all it's truly matters

    Gorgeous work. If you don't mind my asking, how deep should those post holes be dug? Only fence I've ever built before is barbed wire

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  5 месяцев назад +1

      depth tends to be between 3' and 4' but it depends on where you live and where your frostline is. 4' usually keeps posts from heaving/moving around due to frost, but check your area for the depth of the frost line.

    Won't the 2x4s on top sag eventually or does the lattice give enough support?

    • @metaspencer

      That's always a possibility ... good to keep them varnished and installed with a bit of tilt to let that water run off

  • @DonnyRam

    Do you ever use brackets for attaching the 2x4's? Are you afraid the toe-screwing will eventually rot out?

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  2 года назад +1

      I'm not a big user of brackets and have seen toe-nails and screws last a good long time, but I think you could do it that way. By far the best and strongest method of attachment is to create a notch. That will hold forever and works very well, it just takes longer

    • @DonnyRam
      @DonnyRam 2 года назад

      @@metaspencer awesome thanks Spencer! I agree, notches would be awesome, but I don’t have that kind of time right now. One more question, were those brad nails you used to attach the lattice rails?

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  2 года назад +1

      @@DonnyRam The next gauge up: finish nails. I find brad nails are a bit thin for the long haul

    What kind of wood was used for this fence? I’m looking to do something similar being prices are outrageous right now for buying 6x8 panels of white/red cedar this might be my next best option. Also had a question about expansion. Being these weren’t tongue and groove. How much shrinkage will happen between the slats?

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  Год назад

      Yeah prices are horrible, but cedar is the best. The posts here are pressure treated pine; the fence boards (pickets) are cedar

    Live on a corner lot and need about 720ft of fence on the side facing street..My yard sits high so neighbors can see inside from outside..The fence that we have is still ok and steady but she wants a new taller fence. She wants all the gaps blocked and taller fence 7ft and with beams on top and we also we may add lattice...My question is if it is worth it just to replace the side fence and a little bit in the front without replacing the rest of the fence (neighbors fence)? Will this look good or is it better just to save more money and replace the whole thing around house?? The rest of fence around house is nice and steady but if we replace street fence it will be nicer and taller compared to the rest of the fence.

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  3 года назад

      When people ask me this question I tend to try to save any fence that is solid and still working, blending the design of the new fence in with the old. That can't always be done but when a fence can be saved it saves money, time, resources, and all of that. Of course, if the existing fence is one you just can't stand it's gotta go. Keep in mind that you can always build the new section first then decide to replace the old section later ... or save it. Note that local ordinances may limit the height and style of your fence so look that up before you build
