For those not familiar with this fight, George baited him into standing in front of him and trading punches because for most of the fight Big George was intentionally landing soft punches. You can see it worked.
Yup. He threw with just enough power to accrue damage but not scare Moorer into fighting a pure boxing match George knew he wouldn't win. When George started throwing with some heat, Moorer had been hit too many times to effectively dodge. He was slow and an easy target.
Moore's own corner kept telling him to stay away from Foreman, moorer had the fight won easily on points, they knew Foreman was setting him up but Moorer wouldn't listen, stupid, stupid

two rounds that would make me finance time travel (and related research) if I could: this and the 10 of the first bout between Holyfield and Riddick Bowe
I imagine Ali shed a tear over this moment. Proud of Big George Foreman at 45yrs old not only becoming heavyweight champion also representing their generation of World class fighters!
Donna, I was with Ali while he was watching George's Moorer fight. The level of intensity Muhammad brought to watching it was astounding. Famously, he almost immediately sent George a telegram congratulating him.
I shed a few for George that night..I was actually vacationing that weekend and I wanted to stay in the hotel and watch the fight and I'm happy I did to see Big George win the title..
Moorer has said he was out on his feet by that point already. Foreman landed a few 1-2s in this round. Moorer made the suicidal decision to stand and trade with Foreman, and it was over. If you watch the Foreman/Morrison fight, you see what he should have done. Morrison was literally running away from Foreman for much of the fight, especially the last few rounds (to the extent that the crowd booed). But it was the smart thing to do and the only way to beat Foreman.
The view at 1:32 looks brutal. You can see it's right on his chin and moved his head a lot. George turned into the punch and followed through his chin. Ouch. You can also see blood pouring out of Moorer's face as he's getting up.
The punch moved his head suddenly sideways instead of straight back.....the hallmark of most non upper cut knock out blows. That sideways movement screws up both the brain and inner ear balance.
If you look in slow motion from 00:58 you notice how Foreman pulls down Moorer's guard in the last 2 punches and places the shot right after that to have 2 clean shots at the head and chin
@@jstenberg3192 I have hole in my left ear drum and I got caught with a right hook dead on it while I was throwing a right cross, got my arm up to block it but I left my shoulder low. My shot connected clean on the guys orbital bone and shattered it. Best and hardest punch I ever took and the other guy said the same. Two inches down and one inch forward I'd of been a knocked out puddle on the floor and three inches down and he'd of been the same way. George always knew where the disconnect switches were and despite what some people think was a very accurate puncher. I cannot imagine him in his prime catching me on the end of the chin or where the upper and lower jaws join with a clean punch......, My grandkids would probably all stutter.
Contrast those to the way he loaded up and swung from the floor in his younger days. George transformed from a slugger to a boxer in his second career---short, powerful punches, no wasted movement. The KO punch couldn't have travelled more than 6"---straight from the shoulder.
Literally, I jumped and yelled for joy and shed a tear at the same time! That roar from the crowd has to be among the loudest ever at any event! George had a GREAT jab. If he was more patient and used it more in his prime...he would have been unbeatable.
The roar of that crowd when Moorer went down is insane. Remember watching this and going crazy jumping up and down. Still brings chills ever time I see it!!
Look at some of George Foreman's first 40 opponents before facing Ali,, all cruiserweights and tiny heavies with losing records: Fred Askew -- 2 wins 6 losses Johnny Carroll -- 12 wins 19 losses Roy Wallace -- 7 wins 12 losses Leo Peterson -- 3 wins 4 losses Bob Hazelton -- 3 wins 6 losses Levi Forte -- 20 wins 21 losses Charley Polite -- 11 wins 14 losses George Johnson -- 17 win 19 losses Lou Bailey -- 16 wins 30 losses Mel Turnbow -- 8 wins 10 losses Stamford Harris -- 14 wins 21 losses Vic Scott -- 1 win 2 losses Joe Murphy Gordwin -- 1 win 14 losses Ollie Wilson -- 21 wins 39 losses Clarence Boone -- 3 wins 25 losses Terry Sorrell -- 4 wins 15 losses Shocking isn't it. The rest were not much better similar to washed up handicapped cruiserweight Joe Frazier who was puffed up with diabetes, high blood pressure and only had one 👁️ eye (no disrespect but true). "My left eye went when I was young. I was working the speed bag and some steel went in the eye and scratched it to pieces. I was blind in that eye. Some doctors were my best friends. We sheltered the story and kept it a quiet. And I learnt the eye-chart by heart." -- Joe Frazier Medically Joe Frazier would not be allowed to fight professionally today, Fact 💯
Foreman was relatively unknown when he challenged Joe Frazier for his heavyweight crown in 1973, that's why he was a 3 to 1 underdog going in. Frazier had slipped since beating Ali in 1971. That fight had taken a lot out of him and Joe was 10 pounds heavier when he got into the ring with George. The only names on Foreman's record that stood out were 19-5 B-Level punchbag Chuck Wepner and 59-16 214 lb 6'0" George Chuvalo. Foreman's greatest win at his best was against little one 👁️ Joe inside two rounds. After knocking out the overmatched 54-27 5'10 196 lbs Jose Roman in the 1st, Foreman scored his second best career win against Ken Norton, who just broke Ali's jaw. 210 lb Norton's philly shell defense was atrocious against Foreman. George destroyed Kenny, again in under 2 rounds. This was the high point of his career. When George agreed to fight Ali, many feared he would seriously hurt the aging 32 year old former champion. ( 32 is still young, Wladimir fought Joshua in fight of the year at 41. Archie Moore fought Ali at 48 and Lewis beat Tyson and prime Vitali at 37. What was Ali doing at 37? He couldn't talk and his tremors were getting worse ..it's not how you start IT'S HOW YOU FINISH )
Foreman was always a slugger, never a patient slick boxer. That's why after the 3rd round, commentator Joe Frazier said, "George is rushing himself and not staying calm, he's not going to last." Frazier saw exactly what we all saw. Foreman Panicked in the sweltering heat and humidity which exceeded 90 percent and punched himself out, flailing away like a wild kitty cat. Ali sensed what was happening and patiently waited till George fell over ..And OMG did you see how ILLEGALLY LOOSE those ropes were!!! They were loose enough to allow Ali to avoid getting hit in the head leaving Foreman no choice but to go after the body. What should have been Ali's most difficult fight was actually one of his easiest. Fans worldwide demanded an immediate rematch but Ali knew better. If Ali was really the greatest why didn't he prove it instead of running 🏃💨 back to washed up one 👁️ Although Foreman went on to humiliate overrated one 👁️ for a second time after his loss to Ali, it was clear he was not the same fighter. He was knocked down twice and looked very vulnerable against Ron Lyle in their slugfest. Then several easy fights later, George was humiliated again, this time by featherfisted 19% KO's Jimmy Young. Being devastated and depressed Foreman retired from boxing.
Comeback Foreman was flattered by two things: #1. Frazier made george look better than he was. #2. Ali made norton look better than he was. Here's some more bum of the month club fighters with losing records they hand-picked for George: Frank Lux 19 wins 30 losses Mark Young 11 wins 13 losses Manoel de Almeida 3 wins 8 losses Mike Jameson 14 wins 15 losses Little 5'7" Qawi hit Foreman at will till he ran outta gas. Gerry Cooney fought George with his right arm tied behind his back as he didn't throw a single right hand punch. Holyfield and Morrison hit George whenever they wanted to and Alex Stewart gave Foreman the worst beating of his career closing both his eyes. Foreman proved he had the talent to compete in his second career...but that's it...in truth...old Foreman was a celebrity fighter by then. Nobody minded that he leap frogged real contenders to cherry-pick opponents with belts that suited him stylistically and were 35 to 50 pounds smaller. First Foreman with his 50 pound weight advantage tries Holyfield for a belt. Three fights later he tries Morrison who couldn't breathe with HIV for a belt. Then very next fight they hand George his belt on a silver platter for fightin career LHW Moorer. Big George wanted Absolutelyyy Nothing to do with POWER hitters Lennox Lewis, Riddick Bowe, Ike Ibeabuchi, David Tua, Oliver McCall, Andrew Golata and Mike Tyson because he was to slow and his philly shell defense was terrible. Boxing mafia/politics did the same for Foreman as they did for Ali. Just follow all the💲trails for answers.
Saw a documentary about this. Apparently he was throwing soft double jabs with a right hand and then started throwing power behind them. Moorer didn't want to listen to his corner telling him to not get so involved as he'd get knocked out. Foreman's plan worked perfectly. Legend.
Which may have confused Moorer remember Tommy Morrison beat Foreman a year before but fans felt let down because Tommy became a boxer instead of a brawler and he was never really the same fighter after that I think Atlas should've said keep doing what your doing but be careful.
Funny how three of the nicest guys all turn out to be in the top tier of boxing! Big George, who is a lesson in humility and decency. Rocky Marciano, who dominated the 50s, and never lost a fight. Finally, Joe Louis who dominated the late 30s and 40s. All three had a terrific knock out ratio in their fights, and yet were humble and decent in their profession. Hats off to all three.

Let us appreciate the fact that Foreman was 45 years old and won the title. Unprecedented and his record still holds till this day. The oldest boxer to win 🏆

I watched this entire fight LIVE as it was actually happening. Never have I been so happy & proud of an athlete, as I was for Big George on this night.
This is the first fight I can remember watching as a kid and what got me into boxing. I'll never forget the image of Moorer laying on his back mouth bloodied.
This footage is great because there is no commentary and you can actually hear the sound of the punches. The KO shot and the right hand a second before it... DAMN, those really had bone shattering thuds! It's far easier to appreciate the power when there is no commentary drowning the sounds that matter!
Man that shot was clean. Hit the sweet spot right on the chin and snapped his head sideways like a twig and the amazing thing is that Foreman didn't even look like he was trying to punch hard there but his power is so great he doesn't even need too. What a legend
@@keenannorris3309 it's crazy to watch... I'm from Brazil, and we had this fight broadcasted free-to-air here (on tape delay I think, without internet it was possible), the full broadcast is on YT. I contend Foremans comeback was AS inspiring as Ali beating him to regain his title. Foreman came back after a TEN YEAR layoff and WON the hw title at FORTY-FIVE years old, THEN continued to have several more professional fights. Phenomenal athleticism and a TRULY "historic moment" in the sport. Just amazing. 🥊
He certainly fought proficiently into his late 40s. Probably could've KO'd Tommy Morrison if only he'd been more aggressive (George basically admitted in the post-fight interview that he'd gone easy on him), and at 48 he absolutely MAULED a prime Shannon Briggs. To this day, the Briggs decision remains one of the most grievous robberies I've ever seen in boxing.

@@amosdraak3536 i never could understand how he ko'd him cause it didnt look like those punches had anything behind them, but then u realize how heavy handed George is and his brute strength
For you fans that only watched this because the new George Foreman movie brought you here...do yourself a great favor if you enjoyed this and watch the entire fight. George was setting Moorer up the entire fight for that last combo. He was 'touching' him with the left long before he pulled off the last hard shot. He touched left, tapped right. Just getting Moorer used to the rhythm. Used to the lack of power on the right hand. Feeling that left just touch, touch, right hand tap, tap. Then BAM, he turned his hips on the last one, and put the real power in. Game over. Brilliant.
Every time I watch this, I am glued to 'THE' punch. So. I'm kinda surprised that I could watch the 2.5 minute clip and actually SEE more of what was going on. And it's amazing, because Foreman didn't have that straight punch, during his first stint as heavyweight champ. And you could see how he landed it on Moorer a few times with the right, the first one very gently, and the one that took him down looked exactly the same as the others, which did NO damage. I would say it looked like the 2nd most solid punch from the 3 or 4 rights he landed. That's a master, right there. This one was like this 40+ year in the making 'punch.' Plus. How much skill did it take to actually land it when it counted. A LOT of people have experimental/theoretical strikes that look great on a heavy bag. Another thing to actually use it and win with it. The way Moorer looked, lying down. He could NOT believe that that punch took him down. And I can only imagine how Moorer feels about that moment, today. If I were Moorer, I would want to find out from Foreman, what it was he did to him in 1994 to liberate the heavyweight belt from him. Moorer looks pretty good, these days. He looks the same, a bit older, and strong. I would imagine these boxers could be friendly with one another, after retirement. Not everyone can be a boxer. And. Unless you're a heavyweight, you don't know what it's like to be in their shoes, walking the planet with that type of skill and punching power. Great boxers in every weight division. But. What's it like to be this heavyweight champion?
I saw this live and I was SHOCKED. I was also VERY HAPPY for George. This was a beautiful moment not only in boxing history but life history. It’s NEVER too late to accomplish something.
Watching this fight live was different. The build up talk about how crazy George was in taking this fight. Everyone was against George. He proved himself to the world and immediately praised God. Unforgettable moment.
Why isn't Foreman given more credit. At his peak he was phenomenal, if not for that loss to Ali (which was mainly down to Ali's tactical genius), then he would surely be in the conversation for best ever. His comeback itself at that age should be lauded.
That final punch looked like it had no power behind it at all and yet it broke Moorers mouth piece and rearranged some of his teeth and it wasn't even the hardest punch Big George is capable of throwing. Scary, scary power. A glancing blow from Big George would pretty much lay anyone to peaceful rest.
And there's people that think Wilder, Ngannou and Tyson punch harder. All of em got crazy power but nobody in the history of combat sports hits harder than Big George.
Yoooo man if George Foreman story isn’t the epitome of inspiration! I don’t know what is! No way this man should have been Heavy Weight Champ at 45!!! Anything is possible
Best heavyweight of all time, no contest. Absolute legend. Hardest hitter, insane record, insane comeback, no trash talking , didn’t convert to Islam & change his name (cringe…), wholesome image, Christian, awesome.
George foreman is (in my opinion) the greatest boxer if not sportsman in history. The man went through everything life could throw at him and he took it like a real champ. Overshadowed by Ali’s success and being put down by jimmy young only to come back at the age of 45 to win the world heavyweight title again, even after loosing to Morris on and Holyfield. Then later experiencing the death of his own daughter committing suicide not so long ago. He never gave up and always had a smile on his face no matter the circumstances. He is in fact horribly underrated boxer and human being and deserves all the respect. But I am sure with the new movie in the works, I am confident people will know about his story of failures and successes.
Not a great boxer but a great fighter who hit like a diesel truck ....heart of a champion too. What a magical nite redeeming himself 20 year's after Zaire

Man at 0:44 you can see his "My God...did I actually pull this off?" followed by him immediately dropping down to pray,
That had to be one of the greatest right hands ever thrown. Right on the point of the chin. Short, concise, and definitely final
When Big George hits you, you stay hit.
And brutal !!!
It was a punctuation mark lmao
It was such a vicious shot in the perfect spot
This punch didn't look hard at all, almost effortless, but I've heard that it was so powerful that it has actually broken Moorer's mouthpiece in half.
On camera, the punches looked soft. The last two audio reports of the combos showed George had set him up.
The way he so effortlessly threw those bombs goes to shows how powerful Forman was, would hate to be the one in front them punches
Contrast those to the way he loaded up and swung from the floor in his younger days. George transformed from a slugger to a boxer in his second career---short, powerful punches, no wasted movement. The KO punch couldn't have travelled more than 6"---straight from the shoulder.
The cheers from that crowd was powerful! George Foreman shocked the world.
i swear that shit was crazy lol
You can never write-off puncher from way back.
Literally, I jumped and yelled for joy and shed a tear at the same time! That roar from the crowd has to be among the loudest ever at any event! George had a GREAT jab. If he was more patient and used it more in his prime...he would have been unbeatable.

Look at some of George Foreman's first 40 opponents before facing Ali,, all cruiserweights and tiny heavies with losing records:
Fred Askew -- 2 wins 6 losses
Johnny Carroll -- 12 wins 19 losses
Roy Wallace -- 7 wins 12 losses
Leo Peterson -- 3 wins 4 losses
Bob Hazelton -- 3 wins 6 losses
Levi Forte -- 20 wins 21 losses
Charley Polite -- 11 wins 14 losses
George Johnson -- 17 win 19 losses
Lou Bailey -- 16 wins 30 losses
Mel Turnbow -- 8 wins 10 losses
Stamford Harris -- 14 wins 21 losses
Vic Scott -- 1 win 2 losses
Joe Murphy Gordwin -- 1 win 14 losses
Ollie Wilson -- 21 wins 39 losses
Clarence Boone -- 3 wins 25 losses
Terry Sorrell -- 4 wins 15 losses
Shocking isn't it.
And I learnt the eye-chart by heart." -- Joe Frazier
Medically Joe Frazier would not be allowed to fight professionally today, Fact 💯
If Ali was really the greatest why didn't he prove it instead of running 🏃💨 back to washed up one 👁️
Although Foreman went on to humiliate overrated one 👁️ for a second time after his loss to Ali, it was clear he was not the same fighter. He was knocked down twice and looked very vulnerable against Ron Lyle in their slugfest.
Then several easy fights later, George was humiliated again, this time by featherfisted 19% KO's Jimmy Young. Being devastated and depressed Foreman retired from boxing.
Comeback Foreman was flattered by two things:
#1. Frazier made george look better than he was.
#2. Ali made norton look better than he was.
Here's some more bum of the month club fighters with losing records they hand-picked for George:
Frank Lux 19 wins 30 losses
Mark Young 11 wins 13 losses
Manoel de Almeida 3 wins 8 losses
Mike Jameson 14 wins 15 losses
Little 5'7" Qawi hit Foreman at will till he ran outta gas.
This accomplishment will never be repeated in sports history.
Saw a documentary about this. Apparently he was throwing soft double jabs with a right hand and then started throwing power behind them. Moorer didn't want to listen to his corner telling him to not get so involved as he'd get knocked out. Foreman's plan worked perfectly. Legend.
IIRC, Teddy Atlas told him that very thing right before this round.
The reverse rope a dope.
Good show George !
Imagine getting baited into trading punches with George Foreman of all people.
Which may have confused Moorer remember Tommy Morrison beat Foreman a year before but fans felt let down because Tommy became a boxer instead of a brawler and he was never really the same fighter after that I think Atlas should've said keep doing what your doing but be careful.
@kingdjack6 whats scary is that Morrison was sick all that time 😮
Funny how three of the nicest guys all turn out to be in the top tier of boxing!
He wasn't a nice guy in his youth.
Foreman was a mean, nasty guy in his "first" go-round in boxing. He adopted the friendly teddy bear image when he returned to the sport in the '80s.

He certainly fought proficiently into his late 40s. Probably could've KO'd Tommy Morrison if only he'd been more aggressive (George basically admitted in the post-fight interview that he'd gone easy on him), and at 48 he absolutely MAULED a prime Shannon Briggs. What an Achievement by The Great George Foreman. He still had K.O. Power In his 40's not many can do what he did...
"AND ONCE AGAIN!!" chills every time.
George Foreman was like a tank imagine you're hitting him with everything what you got and he just keeps coming at you
man, imagine Moorer seeing a guy 20 years older standing on the next corner in the 7th or 8th round while you're gassed and barely sitting...

Exactly - the man was a fucking beast. 👍
0:22 you can faintly hear Teddy Atlas scream "stop standing in front of him Michael!"
Teddy gets a ton of heat from the boxing community in general, but he got that strategy from the get go.
Moorer never listened to him, however
It's frightening that George was strong enough to score a knockout that way, without really loading up and putting his body into it.
