SAY IT WITH ME, NATO is a DEFENSIVE organization, it has never been mobilized, it just merely needs to exist to deter typical russian aggression.
Latvia is about as close to Moscow as Ukraine and Estonia are in spitting distance of St. Petersburg.
Before the invasion of Ukraine, NATO had 1000 troops stationed in the three Baltic states combined. How is that a threat against Russia?
There is no legitimate fear of NATO invading Russia. That is just age old Soviet propaganda fearmongering that Putin uses as a pretext to invade sovereign Ukraine.
Furthermore NATO does not exist to destroy Russia, nor does it actively expand to surround Russia. As can be plainly seen right now, Eastern European countries have a legitimate fear of being invaded by Russia, and have sought safety, as sovereign nations, by becoming members of NATO.

I wouldn't hold my breath, but it's pleasant to contemplate. I have no ill will against Russia inherently, but invading your soveriegn neighbor because you think it belongs to you is a giant no-no. Their leader created this situation, and whether it's fair or not, their entire society will be forced to bear the consequences just like all the other societies are having to do in support of Ukraine. Ufortunately for Russia, they are on the wrong side of this by every objective measure as well as most subjective measures. Their only rational way out would be to withdraw from all occupied territories and negoitiate the extent of what they'll have to do to recompense for their "mistake." They decided to fuck around, now they need to find out. They cannot prevail against a united NATO and it's partners. They know it. Do we?

While it's easy to jump to the conclusion that there was a leak, the fact that air fields have been common targets for drone strikes for months on end, now, gives Russian forces good reason to keep a close eye on anything that shows up on radar on any sort of approach vector. One thing this war has demonstrated is that while the Russian Army isn't always quick about it, they do eventually adapt when repeatedly confronted by the same kind of threat, so I wouldn't be surprised if Russian commanders, having repeatedly seen jets on the tarmac getting hit by drones, basically said, "Well, we may not be shooting the drones down, but when we see them coming, we can remove the prime targets."

Just because we like some against the law in some circumstance, shouldn't invalidate the law or the punishment. He clearly understands, hence he did turn himself in. That's what the hero does and any true swiss would do.
While i agree, that Switzerland should make a general exemption, which allows military support if there is sufficient support in the UN general assembly and all international laws are respected, to designate one side clearly as the aggressor, it's unlikely the swiss population would agree. The so strict laws, came about, as industry always found loopholes to deliver weapons to the bad guys for profit.
Many people also forget: The US and the UK did invade Iraq under false pretense in a war of aggression. Same as Russia did with Ukraine. So it's not always as simple to differentiate bad from good. The West really undermined its credibility in that case.

Switzerland has been feared throughout medieval times for its mercenaries. It fact, fighting for foreign forces was an important source of income for the impoverished population (back then Switzerland was among the poorest nations in Europe).
This became so common and so bad that in one specific Battle in Northern Italy the casualties were for the most part Swiss people; - Villigae fought against village, neighbors against neighbors, brothers against brothers, vaters against sons; - all in the name of different warlords who hired them.
And then they said: ENOUGH!! - This is the reason why Switzerland is neutral, why it's forbidden to fight for foreign interests, it even led to the founding of the RED CROSS.
Back to our Swiss mercenary: yes, he broke the law, yes, there will be a trial and he will be convicted. will e go to prison? - Most probably not. He will find sympathy from the prosector and the judge and the people but of course he will receive a sentence of any kind, a slap on the wrist. - Just keep in mind: since the Ruzzian invasion, Switzerland broke so many taboos that were quite unthinkable just 5 years ago. As a Swiss I am proud of this guy and I'm sure I'm not alone. You know: our minds embrace the concept of neutrality but our hearts speak a different language, at least in the case of Ukraine.

@@WilliamWilliams-ut9eqNot exactly what happened back then. What he left out, is that Switzerland simply limited the people that could hire Swiss mercenaries down to the king of France and the pope, of which only the pope is still around and does so. The king of France was already the biggest contractor back then and one of the parties engaged in war in northern Italy, while the pope managed to keep a desperate foot in the door mainly in Zurich. So yeah, it’s not that the Swiss abolished the war trade, but that they wanted to avoid a second Swiss vs Swiss battle.
The neutrality is also more a product of later times and was firmly put in place after Napoleon at the summit of Vienna in 1815.

    • @davidgantenbein9362
      @davidgantenbein9362 9 дней назад

It’s quite gruesome why the Swiss became such feared mercenaries in medieval times. Back then, Switzerland was in a bigger war on the current day area of modern Switzerland and due to how poor the region was, it became custom to not make any prisoners. Caught enemies were simply killed. So all Swiss fought to the bitter end in every battle and wouldn’t take prisoners, something so shocking it drove off other mercenaries like the French ones (really famous back then).

I don’t believe it was a rat in the Ukrainian army, long range drones are slow and easily detectable because of the loud noise they make when they fly low to avoid radar detection and air defenses. The Russians are able to hear them coming and evacuate their airbases before they hit. It highlights the big problem with using drones to strike airbases, they are loud and slow, giving the Russians the necessary time to escape

I suspect Ukrainian intelligence simply decided it has enough drones to take on Russia in a cat and mouse game. When they run out, then Russia will not be able to keep up with new production of resources. On the other hand, the security agreements with Ukraine´s allies will ensure that Ukraine will get (most, if not all of) the resources they need. I think this will prove to be enough for Ukraine to win.

If the Nazis in Russia knew about the Drone attack they would have moved more air defences into the area around the Airfield, or they could have removed all of the debris as fast as they could before the spy satellites were able to view the damage that was inflicted to their aircraft.

Denys, one of your best videos for a long time. They are always good, but this one was very informative and balanced. Truly appreciate your dedication and honesty.

Just as an add on, the European Union does have it's own article five thingy in a form within the Treaty of Lisbon. It is not as far reaching as Article 5 where an attack on one is an attack on all, but the EU does have article 42.7 and article 46. Although both were written as kickstarters for an EU Defence, which still is in it's infancy. It did give an umbrella for non aligned countries in the EU, like Ireland, Malta, Cyprus, Austria and back then Sweden and Finland. It would just require a 'commitment', whatever that may mean though.

It would take the EU 6 months to formulate a policy response to an attack on one of it's countries, then another 6 months to gain agreement as to how they will respond, with what resources, and who will pay for it. An EU defence force could never be as effective NATO. Just an opportunity for useless European politicians to wear fancy uniforms and gain impressive sounding titles.

Just be realistic here, Denys. - It's nothing but 1 first step.
But keep in mind: every journey, as long it may be, starts with 1 first step. And that's what they do here...

Denys, don’t worry. A lot of people in the United States still speak their native language but be sure, they are all American and none wants to go back to the countries their ancestors came from. So we understand you are Russian speaking Ukrainian. 😉👍🏻

Denis, every Swiss man has been trained for military defense, and have regulary training to the retirement... A smart system.
