I live in the Netherlands, we are an ally of the US, we have strong businessties back and forth... If we talk about "The West" that means Europe, the US and Canada (and FWIW Australia and Japan). Some Ukrainians tried to make a deal with Nazis to get rid of the Soviets who were no friends under Stalin (Holodomor) and some joined the Red army to try and get rid of the Nazis. So it's not so simple. Don't forget WW2 started when Stalin made a deal with Hitler to invade and split Poland.

True... he actually mentioned a few times before, that Zelensky "was not serious enough" about the invasion threat, and did not prepare well before the feb.22. Also he said that before the war Zelensky stopped some Ukranian military weapon productions and research. Probably also hes not a fan of the desicion to swap Zaluzhny for Syrsky..

I'm happy to see in media outlets that the sanctions are having an effect on russia in many sectors. I know that no man is perfect, no leader is perfect. I just am amazed at Zelenski. He has used his determination, his love for his country and its people to help get the west behind him.
I cry each time I see the clip on D day anniversary, when an elderly veteran was introduced to a line up of people. When the veteran heard Zelenski's name, he tried to kiss Zelenski's hand. Zelenski stopped him, hugged him and saying no, no, no, he (the elderly man who fought in WWII) was the hero. I love Zelenski's humility.
Zelenski didn't ask for this war. It is fair to say he wasn't prepared for it. But above everything, Zelenski has risen to the role. I believe he will go down as a hero. He is an example of the brave, determined, inventive Ukrainian people. Zelenski is a hero to me as are so many of the Ukrainian people.

Russian army is strong as heck, no point in denying that. Probably NATO will intervene directly without risking a nuclear war, in a defensive way, something "similar" to what happened with China helping the Korean communists in the Korean war.
If that happens a line will be drawn, Ukraine will lose territory but at least will survive and with the help of allies will thrive like happened with Sout Korea.

Just curious, if you capture the 400 soldiers, why not release their regional ethnicities to the media. So the world can see disproportionately where Russia recruits from, how many are mercs, prisoners and foreigners,and how many are from the poorest regions of Russia.

I already know that there are fighters who are native primitive "first peoples" so they cannot speak Russian and no one understands them. They are that isolated. I'm glad you realize that most of the 'military aid' packages stay in the USA. A lot of people don't realize that. Yes, they get some cash, but most of it goes to USA companies to pay for material and workers to build equipment for Ukraine. It is interesting to note that early on, prisoner exchange rates favoured Russia (with multiple Russians exchanged per Ukrainian), but in the most recent exchange the numbers were equal.

At this particular junction; Zelensky should lead Ukraine. @@KriminalRecords-u5bThat’s not exactly accurate. It took Putin multiple attempts and election fixing to put in place a leadership that would be Russias puppet, just as he had in Belarus. It was from February 2010 to February 2014 that Viktor Yanukovych led the pro Russian government after very questionable election results where in certain areas 120% of the population turned out to vote.
As far as Ukraine having nuclear weapons would have gone, it would have been possible for Ukraine to have their own nuclear weapons even after handing over all that remained in Ukraine to Russia. The cost to maintain the world’s third largest nuclear stockpile left by Russia and the cost to convert each nuke to no longer be controlled by Russia would have bankrupted Ukraine. Even keeping 10% of them would have left more nuclear weapons than France and the UK combined.
What tends to be forgotten is that Ukraine was the country making those weapons, using weapons grade plutonium from Ukrainian nuclear power plants.
I do agree that the UK and US should have gone further now since this would be in accordance with CSCE Final Act which the Budapest Memorandum references. However, this is not happening so we just have to take what we can get.

@@fonkyman A promise is not law. There is no legal obligation to uphold the memorandum nor a promise to provide military assistance to Ukraine. The wording of 'security assurances' has been left ambiguous on purpose because that could, but not necessarily, include lethal military aid, which the US and the UK are providing.
Also, Ukraine has already received ~$300 billion in assistance. That is almost double what the USSR received against Nazi Germany.
To give Ukraine a better fighting chance, the restrictions of attacking Russian soil should be removed but only for military targets within ATACMS range (300km). We will see what Ukraine will do in the next 6 months. At this point, asking the US for more assistance without showing any progress will not go over well with the US public.
