Varusteleka offer great stuff! What I have bought from them (Jacket, Backpack, Skrama, Poncho etc) works as advertised and costs (price & shipping & custom taxes) less than equivalent gear bought locally (Switzerland). They also have a refreshing sense of humor!
Everything I have purchased from them has been top rate. The sleep pad has been working very well. I also purchased the Sarma Recon pack and its very solid built excellent design.
@@VictorGarciaR I own an RP80. It's made for Varusteleka by Savotta, same materials and craftsmanship as their excellent Jääkäri line of packs. It's large, durable, stable, modular, adjustable, comfortable. Great pack. For the price, I think it should come with a sternum strap. Doesn't, so I added one. The current version doesn't have any top compression straps either, and this is because the RP80 is set up to accept a small daypack as a "top lid" that compresses down. I use a Jääkäri S for this, attached horizontally with some spare utility straps, and it works well. Easy to rig up some top compression straps or go without. Even without any extras, it's significantly heavier and more expensive than an Osprey or similar. It'd be overkill for a lot of people. But I love mine and I'll try to answer any specific questions you have.
@@VictorGarciaR not with this minimal comment platform. It would take a video. Just say, built as solid as possible while maintaining light weight of pack. It swallows a modular sleep system, you dont know its there.
I have been looking at these pants for a while, I will buy a pair once I need them (I am a student so not necessary yet) as well as some of their boots, särmä tst alpina recon boots to be exact. I just finished a year in the finnish army and that sparked an interest in camping and bushcraft. I already got a backpack from them and it's amazing!
Nice pants! I have the Swedish army wool pants, my dated 1945, and it has been my go to pants during the winter! It is amazing warm! Greetings from the woods in Sweden 🇸🇪
I really liked the pants. They looked quite comfy & durable and I took you at your word (along with affirmations from some commenters) that they were warm... But I just can't afford the price anymore since I had to give up my CST job in the OR (no injection for me). Thanks for the suggestion though brother 😊
Hey Susan! Good for you for standing your ground. I can’t believe how many people are going along with this. If you are looking for wool, I wouldn’t hesitate checking out some older military surplus. Even the pants I ripped out, a needle and thread and they are good to go. Most of the surplus wool I have was about $30. All the very best! 🌲
There's a lot of regrets by those who took the shots. Good to you standing against injections for patients and self. As to wool pants, you'll find lots more available in the men's section at thrift stores. Just make sure the fit and use a Marino base layer if you want extra warmth and comfort. If you picked up a couple pairs or a blanket, the material would make a nice warm skirt too. Here's a blessing that might make your day. Please ask if you have any questions. ruclips.net/video/qv0rnnUdk-I/видео.html
Thanks brother. All the very best to you and yours up there. Its raining here. We have been here a year now, and last year at this time we needed a bobcat to plow the snow. Have a good one!
The wool pants rip out is common, same thing happened to me. But its not just the Swiss surplus but a few wool pants designs rip out as well . Solution: suspenders, which should be worn anyway. The problem with rip out is worsen with pants legs tucked into high ride boots like Muck boots.
Swedish ≠ Swiss! The wool gear (trousers, overcoat) I was issued in the Swiss army in 1986 was just awfull, somewhat thin & very scratchy, nickname: barbed wire suit! The pants Justin described in the video sound & look useful and I would believe him when he says they were Swedish!
All the best Jess thanks for all your videos and the time you put in them for us . wishing you and your family health and happiness for 2022 💪🏴👍🔥🥩🌲
Happy new year my friend! Very interesting pants, me and my bushcraft Group are usual with Varusteleka, good products, good prices and very Fanny people!! 👏👏👏👍🤛🤛
Nice review brother. It's so great that not only have advancements been made in commonly used items and tools for those who either frequent the wilderness or live within it, but in clothing and attire as well. It's tough out there as much as it is wonderful and comfort and ergonomics in attire go a long way. Really nice! 🤜🌏🤛
Thank you brother! It really is cool to see how they have blended old and new with these. Very well made. You are spot on, appropriate attire is such a huge piece of the puzzle. I feel it often gets overlooked for whatever reason. The clothes on your back are the first line. Have a great day my friend, and Happy New Year! 🤝
Hi Jesse! These pants are awesome, I think there is nothing better than wool for wintertime. Happy New Year and all the best for you and your family from 🇦🇹🤠👍🍻🎉🍾
I like your evolution through the old school surplus wool. I'm loving the versatility of wool head to toe too.. It's surprising how you can stay warm through such a wide temperature range. I wonder if you can describe what you would change on those Verusteleka pants now that you've worn them a season or two? For instance, do your lower legs get hot from the additional layer and wish you had a removable gator instead? I have my favorite 50/50 Cotton/ nylon ripstop and 500 Cordura nylon to add to my sweet swiss, etc wool pants for town and field next fall. I want to do those projects properly. Any suggestions?
Thank you! Sounds like a great project you are planning. As far as what I would change on these, not much. They have been really great. Definitely a cold weather garment. The ripstop adds quite a bit in terms of heat retention. Personally, I really enjoy using gaiters. I have a set of old Swiss waxed wool gaiters and think they are a really great option. Wear them as needed for cold and wet weather, remove them as conditions improve. All the best with your project!
Thank man great stuff lol be good gear reviews I have been looking at the new will trousers from decathlon I am quite interested similar to what you have just reviewed
I love Varusteleka's site. Every time I go on it, I see something I want. I noticed you had the Boltaron sheath for the Jaakaripuuko. How do you like it? I've been thinking about scooping it up. Happy New Year as well, take care.
Same here. They have a great thing going. I really like the Boltaron. I was unsure at first if I would like it, as it sits high on the belt, but this keeps it up out of the way when sitting or riding in a vehicle. I can also wear it with my backpack which is a huge plus for me. I have the leather sheath as well, which is really nice, but the Boltaron is the one I favor of the two. Happy mew year!
@@EnduranceRoomYeah that was my main concern as well. It seems to ride high on the belt. The leather sheaths are excellent, but a little too bulky and a little too dangly for my taste. I'm more of a less is more kind of guy. Thank you.

Fantastic looking pants, but are they quiet? Like bow hunting quiet? Also, do they have pockets for knee pads?
@@tincan77 Thanks! Yes, they are quiet, but no knee inserts. Really well made though.
