Hi, i hope you can help me out here. I have an 2001 w203 c class, and i have fault on abs, bas, esp, and epc. I have used the icarsoft that u used in the video. When i for example goes in to esp it says error. Its like i dosent get contact with it. Maybe the esp control module is in "sleep" and i have to go to a mercedes workshop to fix it. So if you have some advice that would be great.
With 203 you have to choose the right year in the scanner. Also if you cannot communicate with esp then that is a symptom. Check other modules for codes with communication with esp. or your scanner may be bad.
Hello I got an CLK 240 W209, I guess I got a pressure sensor is that right? Because at the repair shop, they ordered a brake switch, but that wouldnt make sense if I have a brake sensor, right?
On the ships I worked on, redundancy is used specifically for having a second system ready to be used, in the event that the other system fails. In this was, one system is always in operation - while the other remains idle or is being repaired or replaced. My guess is that this *MIGHT* be the reason this system is applied in automobiles breaking systems, since the brakes *IS* the most important system in a vehicle. I might be wrong but that's my guess - since that's why such systems are used on ships.
That would make sense! That or for diagnosis purposes. Mercedes is pretty good with explaining how things work but we run into scenarios like this where they never released information why. Least I have yet to find it.
If just you brake light switch was the only that came on the display but now the BAS,ESP, and left brake light then right and so on . Should I start with the brake light switch?
If you wish but a brake light switch will not set dash warnings for bulbs. You will need to check the bulbs as well. And use a scanner to check for codes In the esp module.
if the brake light switch / pressure sensor is bad, will I get a malfunction light on the dash? My X166 GL550 2013 gets stuck in park and won't switch gears. It's intermitent. Doesn't happen all the time but is getting more common. Great vids! Thanks!
Yes and no to the warning. Your issue is most likely a bad ISM. Have the dealer scan the car. Probably will find drive authorization codes like in my other no start video I made.
Hi Lou, hope you can point me in a direction to solve a problem I have, a 2004 W203 no fault codes but cruise control became intermittent then stopped working brake switch is on the master cylinder, the speed limiter still works any ideas. Usually the switch fails. Need to use a scanner to check the data of the switch when using it. The data will Most likely be in the steering column module.
Hey.. so I have a 2011 GL450 I didnt see where u posted the location of the brake light switch?? Also curious on what fuse box the fuses for it is I cannot find my manual. Thank u in advance
Your chassis is a X164 and there is no fuse for it. Also in the video I state theres only two places it will be. On the brake pedal arm, or on the master cylinder. On yours its on the master cylinder.

Hey Lou, I have a 2003 S600. I don't think I saw you list this model. I'm pretty certain I have a brake light switch since I purchased a new one from auto store. Also, I am currently trying to remove the piece of plastic to gain access to the pedal but can't seem to separate it from the dash. It appears to be clipped on but I don't want to be to rough with it. Do you have a tip to remove that piece to expost the wule pedal to get to the switch? I have removed the 5 screws already. Thanks.
My daughter has a 2003 C-230 Kompressor. Is there more than the brake lamp switch off the master cylinder. Have a broken e-brake, parasytic drain, car wont shift automatically, but can change gears manually. Had issues before the e-brake issue. Replaced brake lamp switch @ master cylinder. Looking to confirm whether or not theres a second switch. Thank you!
Only 1 location. Either single or dual pressure switches in the master cylinder or brake switch on the pedal. Yours is on the master cylinder. Switches also dont affect shifting.
Thank you! I believe it's the parasytic drain on the battery is causing the shifter to lock. Also found a bad fuse & suddenly its shifting again! Thank you so much! I was under the dash for days looking for that switch! Really appreciate the help. Got it changed out!
Hi, Lou. If you have a short circuit fault code and you are able to communicate with the module does that eliminate “ a bad module situation?” Thank you.
No it does not. You can have a module make up fault codes. Its not common but it does happen. Either a module is not sending a signal out or not processing the signal back. And by signal I mean voltage. Which is when it’s important to diagnose. Is positive and or negative voltage coming out of the module for the circuit . Is it getting back to the module. We determine a module is bad when everything external tests fine. If that makes sense.
have a cl 215 55amg... I know break light switch is gone.. but central dash switches are also not responsive..inc hazard warning switch... Do you think same issue?
Great video, having several intermittent problems with my 2005 clk500, there are no codes on the dash. 1. when stopping car goes only drive to nutral unless i turn off engine then will go into park 2. car won't after the above problem at times, put a jumper on the start relay and car starts but will not go out of park. 3. the above problems are all intermittent. I have a iCarsoft MB II and have one code P1856 comes up, could this also cause the car not to start? thanks bill
Hi, thanks for the video. I have a 2011 450 GL that won't select any gears. It's stuck in Park. Can it be from a faulty brake switch? An ESP fault is displayed.. If the brake pressuresensor/switch are faulty, will the brake lights work?
Communication failure or bad ism or bad trans. Most times its water in the central gateway. But thats thinking out loud, heres a test if you press the shifter and it says “press brake” that means communication is good. And possibly a brake switch or fluid issue with brakes. A broken brake line will lose pressure so you cant shift.
Hey Lou, learned a ton from the video! I recently purchased a 2004 s500 with the only error code being a speed sensor ( PO500 vehicle speed sensor A). I believe this to be the cause of esp & abs malfunction signs on the dash. However my rear right break light just won’t turn off. Even after turning the light switch to “0” and turning off the car. The license lights weren’t turning off so i unscrewed them. This only started recently. I’ve bought a brand new battery and i think this was the culprit for my previous dead battery. The trunk lid also won’t close but the air attempts. Could this go along with the break lights?
First off, the scanner you are using is not good enough for mercedes. I can tell that by the code you gave me. Second, the rear sam most likely had water in it. It’s under the back seat, passenger side.
@@MasterTechLou Update: The right rear brake light turned off on its own after a couple of hours? I slept through it haha i need to check this out ASAP with a computer, much love Lou!

Hey! I have 2007 S550 (but in the door frame it says 12/05) and I'm having a hell of a time locating the brake lamp switch. On the pedal there's a mount for it but its just a wire hanging there. No switch. Is it under the hood. On the dash it says brake lamp switch because we can't get it to come out of park. Help!
I have a 2005 C55 AMG. Have been trying to find the brake light switch cuz MB tells me it has one but it has a solid plastic column surrounding brake pedal and I can't locate it. Does mine have a switch and sensor or just the sensor??
Hello, ok so, if you have a fault in communication, then that's the issue , esp may have blown a fuse or the module may be bad. check other modules codes, if you find a lot of codes to do with communication with the esp,. then that's telling you that the esp module is what you need to focus on, power, ground and data lines voltages. If all are present, then the module has failed.
@@MasterTechLou Thanks Lou. I checked the fuses and all fuses are good. Do you mean the ESP module in the engine compartment correct? Our previous mechanic told us it was the sterring angle sensor, and we changed that and now it says 'ESP not available' after replacing it too on the dash

So if you have some advice that would be great.
With 203 you have to choose the right year in the scanner. Also if you cannot communicate with esp then that is a symptom. Check other modules for codes with communication with esp. or your scanner may be bad.
You are amazing bro, I have been watching your videos & you are great in what you doing

Hello I got an CLK 240 W209, I guess I got a pressure sensor is that right? Because at the repair shop, they ordered a brake switch, but that wouldnt make sense if I have a brake sensor, right?
Thanks for the video man!
I have just bought a ml500 w164
Same issue. Where should I start?

Yes and no to the warning. Your issue is most likely a bad ISM. Have the dealer scan the car. Probably will find drive authorization codes like in my other no start video I made.

Thanks for the video. I have a c240 w203 (2002). Launch Diagnostics shows c1200 stop lamp switch S9/1. Car shows intermittent BAS error on dashboard sometimes. No ESP. diagnostics of break stop lamp shows On off and off on after break press for N/O N/C. Esp sensors 1 and 2 shows 254 bar for break pressure 1 and 0 for 2 when nothing is pressed. When I press the break both show pressure and they show the same pressure. Do you think the break 1st pressure sensor is faulty because it shows 254 bars when nothing is pressed ? Also yaw rate sensor show fluctuations in deg value when Stationary
Both should match so yes the sensor that shows pressure when not pressed is faulty

Also, I am currently trying to remove the piece of plastic to gain access to the pedal but can't seem to separate it from the dash.
@@MasterTechLou yes, it does. It is eliminating game( components one by one). Do not assume! Thank you.

Hey what about 2007 s550
Hello, I have 2007 M B c230. The ESP light on. Per M B dealer, it is brake pressure sensor. However, changed it, it still on. What do I do now?
Hi, thanks for the video. I have a 2011 450 GL that won't select any gears. It's stuck in Park. Can it be from a faulty brake switch? An ESP fault is displayed..
If the brake pressuresensor/switch are faulty, will the brake lights work?
Communication failure or bad ism or bad trans.
Most times its water in the central gateway.
But thats thinking out loud, heres a test if you press the shifter and it says “press brake” that means communication is good. And possibly a brake switch or fluid issue with brakes. A broken brake line will lose pressure so you cant shift.
@@MasterTechLou Thanks
But I'll like to know if I can use the brake lights to determine whether the switch or pressure sensor is faulty or not.

Any ideas going forward?
First off, the scanner you are using is not good enough for mercedes. I can tell that by the code you gave me. Second, the rear sam most likely had water in it. It’s under the back seat, passenger side.

Hey Lou. My esp light is on but when I connect my icarsoft it does not connect to ecu “fault in communication with vehicle ECU”
2004 c230 kompressor
Hello, ok so, if you have a fault in communication, then that's the issue , esp may have blown a fuse or the module may be bad. check other modules codes, if you find a lot of codes to do with communication with the esp,. then that's telling you that the esp module is what you need to focus on, power, ground and data lines voltages. If all are present, then the module has failed.
