    Mark,
    Dave Matthews here from sunny Florida USA. I wanted to personally thank you for this video on the the Omega 2500c as I am a hobbyist that does repairs for a very reduced price for my local customers. I took in this repair believing it was just a mounting screw stuck in the balance. Well it was a mounting screw from the rotor bridge and the hacking spring floating around the movement that stopped it dead. Immediately I went to your awesome videos and diagnosed the problem with the screw stuck in the balance wheel and figured out where that little hacking spring went. Not only was that problem solved but I learned how to install the coaxial balance correctly in this movement which started beating to my relief, after following your instructions. You saved my reputation as a horologist and I my confidence in repairing has grown immensely. To put these videos on RUclips to teach others for free goes beyond being grateful. I thank you for being so generous with your time and knowledge in helping others learn the trade. Thank you so much Mark.

    Mark,
    You have no idea how much these videos help the rest of us who are interested in learning this information, but have limited avenues from which to learn. Books and tools are available, but to see someone actually doing it can make such a difference. The concept of watch school has all but disappeared and it is you and a very few number of other people on RUclips plus a small number of videos that keep this wonderful craft from vanishing.

      Very typical of ETA automatics to have such a complicated mechanism for self-winding. There is one in particular I remember having, a remarkable movement of less than 7 lignes diameter, which had a very thick self-winding mechanism with two separate geared one-way clutches to enable bidirectional winding, as well as another clutch which disconnected the mechanism during hand-winding. I have never seen another as complicated as that.

    Hi Mark, I have a SMP 300M mid-size and the rotor makes quite some noise. It doesn’t seem like it’s scraping it’s just spinning quite a lot , wich leaves me to wonder , because I assumed that the 2500 had bi-directional winding. Have some experience with 2824 s and the rotors in those never Spinn that much when already wound. Is that normal for the 2500 series and does the rotor Spinn more easily than the 2825s ?

      Good question. Even more curious is WHO is making Omega repair parts. I’ve twice gotten “Omega” winding stems and new studs for the crown installed that only allow about 1/2 a thread turn to screw the crown down and in both instances the new studs disintegrated after maybe 6 months use and once again, I can’t secure the crown and seal up my Seamaster Professional SMP.

    • @IhateYoutube
      @IhateYoutube 10 лет назад +2

      Sometimes things just fail... If it's mechanical it's bound to fail, and even though there may be a mean time between failure of so many thousand hours, there are always those pieces which fall to either side of the bell curve.

    • @TheNuclearPinball
      @TheNuclearPinball 10 лет назад

      Correct, but the movement can't be very old and therefore the probability that the movement would fail is very low. What I am wondering if it was caused by shock, in which other components may be damaged or defective assembly. Damaged caused by lack of lubrication or debris would also take more time to take affect

    • @IhateYoutube
      @IhateYoutube 10 лет назад +1

      bluedhands It certainly could be shock or a lack of lube. As much as a rotor spins around it wouldn't take long for a lack of lube to take it's toll on the very few balls that support the oscillating weight. Or perhaps one of the balls was defective new, it shouldn't happen with an Omega but it's possible the vendor supplied part was just outside of tolerance.

    Gosh I thought that this movement was very well decorated like beveled edges and etc...because it’s a premium watch, highly priced and stupidly enough I bought one. Surprisingly to my utter disappointment it’s just another Seiko standard level movement from the line. Why’s the hype? Omega is certainly taking us for a joyride WTF!

    • @matthewmurphy8272
      @matthewmurphy8272 4 года назад

      They certainly have their similarities, and are both really good companies in the watch market, and meet their own countries chrono standards. Seiko invented quartz movements, and have made great achievements with mechanical movements; But, George Daniels / Omega pioneered the co-axial escapement. The Cal 2500 hasn't been used in most of Omega's watches in a really long time. [Almost?] All of their movements used now are made in house, have around a 60 hour power reserve, and are graded up to 15,000 gauss [15x that of a Rolex Milgauss], meet strict regulations for Chronometer and Master Chronometer certification (as does the ETA 2892.A2), and are made by hand rather than on an assembly line. Just like any luxury item, a person putting the extra time in hand building, and then dressing up the watch is going to create a even greater premium.
