    Great videos as always you two. Great idea for the skylights, way cheaper than sailboat front glass hatches at $225ea+. The one defect on Lexan is temperature. I have a Lexan frame for my garden hydroponic project. At (MINUS) -30F and -45'F wind chill, it shatters without being hit and turns odd yellow. So avoid -30'F temps on your voyages. So Fairbanks Alaska in the winter is out LOL

    • @GustheStruggleBus
      @GustheStruggleBus  5 лет назад +1

      Yeah you're right. We decided to go with the supports that where already in there so for that reason we had to cut allong those lines. For the back hatch it was no problem, 24" by 24". By it looks like the front hatch had been replaces at one point and things had been moved around slightly so unfortunately it wasn't squared ☹️. We are glad that you enjoyed the video 😁 and thank you for your kind words!!

  • @regmiles
    @regmiles Год назад

    I'm thinking out loud here. I'm pondering this decision and wondering the why of taking on the task. If I have a functional emergency hatch, one that was securely attached or could be adequately resealed to the roof, and all I wanted was some additional light, why not simply modify the existing hatch, by adding a series of small ports in the hatch lid, to allow some light to pass through? Given that buses seem to have lots of windows, I'm questioning the specific desire to add another window on the roof, in place of the hatch. Where, if the installation should eventually fail, it has the greatest possibility to leak into my living space and cause significant damage to any ceiling work I've completed. Considering that the company that originally designed and manufactured the hatch created it to survive and function properly for the specific duty it was performing, substituting a wood frame for the vinyl hatch seems like a gamble. But then, so many of these transformations seem to be hinged on similar gambles. The saying that keeps going through my mind is, "If it isn't broken, don't fix it." There seems to be plenty of light entering the interior via the many windows that are already in place. I'll, no doubt, be adding additional interior lighting to illuminate the inside. So, is the gamble and added labor of completely transforming this part of the original design configuration worth the risk of possible failure down the road? It's a challenging decision for me to make.

    • @GustheStruggleBus
      @GustheStruggleBus  Год назад

      The choice is completely yours! If that would work best for you and make the most sense than that's what you should do. I did it because the extra light makes a huge difference and very much worth it for me. The hatches have had no issues or leaks and have been awesome skylights as well.

  • @logansprague1810
    @logansprague1810 3 года назад +1

    • @sarabeth3016
      @sarabeth3016 3 года назад

      @@RoundTownWithMike if you're just using it part-time and not as a full-time home, you may want to check local thrift stores, Craigslist, Habitat for Humanity Re-Store, Goodwill, etc. for anything you can use like kitchen cabinets, tables, chairs, or something else you can use even if it requires modification. Your materials will likely not match, but you can save some cash. There's a lot of van and bus tours that will tell you how much they spent on the vehicle and conversion so you can get an idea of how different budgets affect the quality of a build. The biggest thing you can save on is solar since you're not full time.

They have been doing really well! One of them had some small drops during a really really bad rainstorm so we added some more of the caulking to the corners where the gaskets meet. If you are able to make the gasket go all the way around the edge without having to cut it that should help prevent that!

      Yes, you're right. We wanted to do the most research before we started building them on the products. And we hope that with the silicone that we used and the roofing tape plus adding layer of tropical on top of the roofing tape will help with any leaking. That is something that unfortunately, we are prepared for vicis we know that with anything we make there's possibility of that. on the right side the hatches were leaving anyway so we had to replace them and we are really happy with the way they turned out oh, so far no leaking LOL

I expected better from you. -How extremely thoughtful and systematic of you to list everything on top of your rad video! Saving this one for sure. I'll be catching up soon. -Question: whatcha all do for "daytime jobs"? Are y'all going, have been or wanting to go to college? What're some of y'all's hobbies and interests? You moved into a new apartment...how's that feel knowing you're building your home at the same time and why the move? 🌺 Usually moving can be fun and exciting but if I had to move right now, pick a place and finish the build I don't think it would feel the same, you know? -Really hope y'all are well and content. My IG is erin.soso.atti if y'all want to connect!! 🙌🏽 I'm about to lay subfloor and have been looking around for cabinetry. I can't do this build from scratch with our time limit being June so, wish me luck on building something we can be proud of and comfortable in. Did I miss a live with y'all?? 🤔 -Exercise Science sounds thrilling. I'm desperately trying to get back into the gym. We've changed our diet completely and now it's just the movement I'm attempting to impliment back into our lives for total body and mind health. That and meditation. -I loathe not having instant, lasting motivation. I loathe having to talk myself into things I know I enjoy the benefits of more than I enjoy the not doing of them. It's... annoying. It's depressing. It's ridiculous. 🙄🙄🙄 Any tips? I do know that I'd rather be doing exercise that just "happens" like with physical labor projects. Things that have another level of gratification. But there's not a lot of options for that in my current, suburban life. None of which I would be interested in. So a membership to EOS is what I gave myself... but there are far too many humans in that building!! I'm also stuck in a "can't find music I'm liking" bind. 🙄 I'm a finicky, finicky person. Not laid back AT ALL. I annoy the shit out of myself, is what I'm saying. 😆 Are y'all going to impliment any workout or dance station/equipment into your build? And what kind of dance, Meredith?? What're your guys' favorite forms of exercise? 🌺

    • @GustheStruggleBus
      @GustheStruggleBus  5 лет назад +1

      Motivation is the one thing that you just can't buy. That's the one thing that I think that everybody lacks in. It's hard to get out of bed in the morning to go work out when the bed is it so cozy. LOL.what has worked in the past for me is a workout buddy or somebody that can keep me accountable. We do want to incorporate some sort of workout equipment into the bus but most likely it'll be sets of free weights. Meredith that's all styles of dance. she's the kind of person that wants to be good at everything not just one thing. She was lucky enough to be able to do an internship in Spain and while there she learned a bit of flamenco! She is my personal badass LOL.

    think you can sell the one thats still good , those original hatches break all the time
    btw dont wear nylon or fleese when grinding , that stuff melts
    about the seal on the hatch , if you cut the seam where the seal is going to be at an angle any water that manages to land in the seal will drip to the outside , the angle allso centers the top part over the bottom part , does mean you need to cut 45 degree corners on both square frames

      So far so good, we could use that if we ever need to rebuild them.

      We don't consider ourselves to be funny, at least I don't. So when people think that we are, or even OK a kick out of our videos it makes us very happy. We like knowing that we can brighten up somebody's days. We're glad that you enjoyed it! 😁

    Comment is just about the audio.. He's too quiet and the music is too loud and a bit obnoxious tbh. I keep turning it up to hear him then BAM loud music! Haha Hard to watch.

    I've managed to get five minutes into this video but the combination of low volume for the spoken part and then the cacophony of grating noise pretending to be 'music' blew my ear drums away. This looked like it would have been a decent video but PLEASE if you HAVE to have music in the video, then keep the volume to a manageable level and not have the spoken word and music overlapping each other. Bye Bye.

      Lol thank you so much for your feedback, editing is no easy task and the volume of each song differs but we are trying our best to improve
