      Hi @andysshop would you happen to know how to get the bolts off to change the blades? There’s barely any room there! Almost impossible to get a socket or any kind of wrench on there. I managed to finally get one off using a 1/2” drive impact but the others won’t budge and I’m afraid I may have wrecked them trying to get them off. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

    Great job at explaining this. My belt popped off and I'm trying to put it on so I can mow before my husband gets of work. Lol thank you!

    What size belt do I need. How many inches

    • @andysshop
      @andysshop  Год назад +1

      115.5 x 1/2 inch should be the right length

    Good evening, your videos has helped me a lot. However, my mower keeps throwing the belt. The first pulley on the left, flat side of bellt, if you're sitting on the mower, is tilted a little and belt pulls up under the guide bar. Is that the problem?

    • @andysshop
      @andysshop  Год назад

      I’ve heard from many people that these throw belts a lot. Some have suggested getting a belt that is an inch or two shorter. Without looking directly at your deck and belt, I’m not able to say for sure. In Oregon, most Ace Hardware stores have a device that measures belts so you could take yours in to learn the exact length and then find a shorter one online.

    Thanks for this vid. Question if you / anyone know the answer... There are 2 rods which go to some kind of shield on the 2 outside larger pulleys One of the shields is broken on mine. The part is no longer in stock. Do you know if the shield is just that? Something to prevent sticks or leaves from getting into the pully/belt?

      I would say it’s more for safety. To keep you from getting your foot stuck in the belt and pulley.

    Does a Scotts/John Deere 1742 have an oil filter?

    • @andysshop
      @andysshop  3 месяца назад +1

      I know some of the Briggs Intek 17hp engines do not have an oil filter. It’s fine as long as you change the oil regularly.

    Good video. Is there a way to tighten the tension? I have same one, and also have a new belt and mine needs to be tightened a tad.

    • @andysshop

      There is a bolt underneath for that, but I don’t have the mower anymore, so unfortunately I can’t take a pic for you.

      @@solden49at 0:56 the long piece has a nut on the free end. I don’t recall which way to turn it, but you only have two options. One loosens and the other tightens.

      The pic isn’t pasting, but hopefully this helps. 1. Park tractor on a hard, level surface.2. Stop the engine, remove key, wait for moving parts tostop.3. Place mower deck in LOWEST setting.4. Engage PTO drive lever.ABD5. Measure distance from bracket (A) to washer (B) ontension rod (C). Distance (D) should be: 20 - 25 mm (0.78- 0.98 in).6. If adjustment is required, continue with Step 7.7. DISENGAGE PTO lever.8. Remove spring locking pin and washer (E) anddisconnect tension rod from blade drive arm.9. Loosen lock nut (F).10.Turn fitting on tension rod clockwise to shorten andcounterclockwise to lengthen effective rod length.11.Tighten lock nut (F) to 27 N•m (20 lb-ft.).12.Assemble tension rod and recheck dimension (D).13.Check brake clearance.

    The million-dollar question is how tight the belt must be to keep from throwing... this model has a bad problem with belt stretch and throwing

      @@andysshop there's no information on how tight the belt should be, one throw does damage to your belt so you have to be pretty careful that said I am pushing meinhard with farm work instead of "Suburban" mowing but I have lots of professional experience on tractors
