  • These two finesse techniques, the drop shot and Ned rig, are great. But how do we know which one to choose under certain conditions? And Why?

I found these little swing head, weedless ned rigs just recently. I'm looking forward to trying them out with Zmans small tubes & standard trd's.

Hey Steve, great video as usual! This is the first time I’ve heard anyone say something specific about why bass head to the bottom on high pressure days. The idea that the high pressure literally pushes the smallest organisms to the bottom and the rest of the fish follow them down there is interesting. Where did you learn that, or how did you figure it out?

A legendary fishing guide on Percy Priest Lake near Nashville taught it to me. We were filming a TV show together and he talked about. Never have forgotten it.

@@SteveRogersOutdoors Thanks man! I was curious if there was a scientific basis for the idea or if it was more of something you just observe all the time over a long period of time. Sounds like that guide figured it out that way. I’ll be watching those sticks from now on! You and Matt Stefan have the two best and most helpful fishing channels on RUclips, and there’s quite a few good ones.

My home small home lake about 30 seconds from my house has bluegill, yellow perch, shad, warmouth, black crappie. I've caught all of these species myself. Its not that big & thankfully doesn't get alot of pressure. But it has some monsters largemouth in it. I've caught more 4-6pounders than I can count, also had couple 7's & my biggest was 9.89. I've had one jump off I believe to be bigger. I'm not sure which bait fish their targeting more? Still trying to figure that out so I can go after bigger bass. All my big ones have all been caught on 6-8" soft swimbaits. Any ideas how I can narrow that prey list down??

That’s a great question. The best luck I have found was just to keep watching the shallows and see what prey species are getting chased. Tournament anglers will also check their livewells. The fish will usually vomit up stuff while in a livewell.

I lose alot of fish with the ned rig using a Zman finesse mushroom head lol .They bite the Sh#t out of it. Using 7 foot medium spinning outfit.light braid to fluorocarbon leader.I dont even Hulk the hook set. They shake it off no matter how low I have my rod.I caught 3 fish today and lost 6 due to them jumping and shaking it off. Love it though.

That can be frustrating for sure. That bait gets a lot of bites. Hopefully the big ones are staying hooked up for you.
