Hi Tyler, Installed my pickups that I just recieved today. I suck at soldering, but your video took the pressure off. I had to go out and buy a real soldering pen though. The one I had was too weak. Two things I would suggest: 1: Tools needed, I would mention the 80w soldering pen listed in the beginning, with the wire cutters and phillips head screwdriver (the best I could find at Home Depot was a Weller 60w, which did the job, great!) 2: A close up of the wires to the input jack (for us old guys. lol!) That being said, the job is complete, and the pickups sound freakin' amazing!

Very nice presentation and explanation of what to do. Thank you... I am awful at wiring and soldering. Your video is very helpful.

Great demo. Thanks. One recommendation I'd like to make is that when you solder a wire to a larger metal piece, such as the spring claw, heat the claw at the spot where the wire will be soldered to. You want the metal spot to be hot enough to melt solder without having to touch the tip of the soldering iron. That gives a more solid and confident soldered connection as the attachment point is first properly heated. If you simply tin the spot by holding the iron to the metal and then quickly dabbing the solder on the tip, sure the solder will melt and somewhat stick to the metal plate. However, that spot was not properly heated first, and that could, and is often, the spot where there will be a failure. When done incorrectly it is called a "cold solder" joint when the solder isn't fully bonded to the surfaces one is connecting. It only takes a slight bit extra amount of time to ensure the connection surface is properly hot. How fast it gets there depends on how hold of a soldering iron one is using. Stay tone-full friends. :)

You are right, the solder won't flow unless both metal connections are hot enough. It's ok to use two irons if you have too. Lindy

You guys should offer the option of pre-installing a terminal block on the pickguard for a completely solderless installation.

Excellent TY , just about to do this job on my old Hohner and this info came at the right time and was very useful

Thanks! Made doing this a breeze. Hardest part was actually getting the old pickguard off. Whatever solder fender used was stubborn as heck and it was hard to get the solder sucker in there.

What about the body ground? My Elite Strat has 4 wires.

I was wondering about that myself. My Deluxe Strat has 4 wires, too, but you only have to wire the three as shown..

@@leoberthiaume2115 You only *need* to wire the 3 mentioned in the video. The 4th one usually has an opening for a screw attached to the end of it; it doesn't need to be soldered, it actually just screws into the body so the wire has contact with the shielding paint within the cavity.

Maybe a cloth on the guitar when soldering would be good idea :)

Do you need another ground wire soldered from the cavity wall to volume pot ? sorry I’m new to this 😬

Everything needs to be grounded but only once. A completed circle of ground wires is call a ground loop and causes more hum.
