Suddenly a band is fucking rad and interesting and loud and all the indie kids start crying; they're different and they're not hurting anyone, enjoy the spectacle of it all; i don't even understand all of the foxygen hate, holy shit. (I understand they draw from their influences heavily, but it's still amazing and entertaining)
In my opinion, there is a big difference between something with some 'visible' influences and something which is boringly derivative. Foxygen have clearly got some beloved musical heroes, but their music is very imaginative. They have albums and albums full of texturally and melodically diverse material. It's impossible to copy a memorable melody, coming up with one is an incidence of original inspiration. There is plenty of forgettable music out there but I don't think that's Foxygen.

For all the people saying he's trying too hard to be cool, I'd like to see you walk the streets of everyday ordinary people screaming a song from your soul. All this video says to me is they are putting themselves out there and they are trying to become something better than average.

Sam is trying way too hard to sound like Anton, and I assume the blonde guy is supposed to be Joel Gion the tambourine player? His mannerisms are nearly identical. It almost seems like they're trying to carry a "mad genius" reputation. I hate to say that, because I like Foxygen, I just like 'em a bit less now.
Sam and Jonathan have always said they liked Brian Jonestown Massacre a lot. They even play start playing BJM's song "Ballad of Jim Jones" at 1:00 which is in the "Dig!" documentary. It's funny because it's obvious that they're imitating BJM. And they do act insane live, it just makes the shows more fun for everyone haha. :)

The lead singer looking drugged (maybe mistaken). What a great surprise ! Thanks La Blogotheque! (and feeling sorry for didn't knowing the band at that time)
