      Started at 43 and skating has made me feel at least 10 years younger. It's good for physical and mental health.

    I just started ice skating at 29! It’s never too late to start a new hobby. I’m loving it so far, it’s a great work out and sooo fun and challenging at the same time 😅

    Reading all these comments makes me feel safe and at home! I started skating about 4 months ago and constantly think that I’m too old (I’m 22). I think it’s so wonderful that there are many adults like me out there doing what they love💜

    • @aimeetea_
      @aimeetea_  3 месяца назад +3

      Yes. You are never too old. Also the other day I met a 30-something year old girl and not only did she seem to “belong” there, but she was so graceful and seemed to have fun and enjoy herself. I talked to her and she started just a couple years ago.
      I met so many adults that just go and have fun and really, I think that is all that matters🤷🏽‍♀️
      And I think that the uneasiness we feel, like someone is looking funny at us or judging, most of the times is only in our head - because we are judging ourselves.
      Just have fun🥰✌🏼
      Good luck with your figure skating💗

    It's a great sport. And probably one of the hardest sports out there. I started at 34 and have been skating two and a half years. And I have loved it. Even if I get stuck on something for a while and I get frustrated, I'll eventually get it, and it's a great feeling. I'm also not particularly flexible. I've been working on that really hard because some things require a lot of hip mobility like if want to have spread eagles or do closed Choctaws (S steps), broken leg and attitude spins, etc.
    I hate the "too old to start skating." That's nonsense. Too old to go to the Olympics, sure. But like 1% of all skaters make it there anyways. There are tons of things for skaters of all ages and levels.
    Congratz on picking it up and good luck on your journey.

      Thank you! I feel the same way - it is very difficult and frustrating at times, but always fun.

    Just found the video a few months late but thank the algorithm.
    I’m 30, my nieces(oldest is 8 and does competitive, olympic track). I wanted to get involved with her and her sisters as an uncle. So I started skating two months ago.
    Initially started on hockey skates but recently swapped to figure skates as I’m starting to get into more complicated skills, (spins, back crossovers, jumps etc)
    It’s a blast, I love learning and mastering a new skill and i’m spending hours every weekend practicing and just having fun during free skate. Personally doesn’t feel like too much money besides classes, initial skate cost and free skate. Compartively it’s cheaper than some sports.
    I’m a guy btw but the whole “feminine sport” thing doesn’t really bother me. I have to be careful a bit on not injuring myself because i’m not a kid and can’t just shake it off but it’s like you said “playing”
    I doubt I’ll ever do competitive stuff maybe. But its just fun working on mastering something and its a great exercise lol
    Anyway long post over

    Just discovered your channel but I've been through a similar thing. I'm 22 as well, I was quite bored and needed to be more active. I decided to go once with a friend then went again on my own then the next week I started group lessons (which was end of January this year) and I've been gradually going more and more to the point that everyone calls the rink my second home now, I'm there at least 5 times a week at this point and I leave the ice for 5 minutes and I'm already wanting to be back on it. I can't go 5 minutes without thinking about skating at this point. My advice for anyone seeing this would be to just go for it, even if its to get out and about, meet new people, no matter what your age is. I imagine its the same in most places, I'm not 100% but the community at my rink is like no other, everyone is so genuine and the age gap between people on the rink is quite big, we've got toddlers then weve got people in their 60s and 70s too. You are never too old for figure skating I've learnt.

    I'm actually gonna do it this time. im 19, and have quit with most of my childhood hobbies overtime. My newyears resolution was to do something new, which is something I really need, and I am actually going skating tomorrow for the first time! I cant wait to struggle towards a goal again. Thank you for the encouragement and inspiration!

    I think you're young enough to start any sport and progress fairly quickly in it!
    I just started at age 39, because my daughter is finally of an age to want to skate and we can take group lessons together.
    I had broken my ankle three years ago and thought I would never be able to ski or skate or anything like this but like you said, when you really love something then you just have to pursue it. I don't care if I'm too old, have no time or money, am too heavy or not gifted at all - I'm gonna learn whatever I can. And I also watch videos on ice-skating before and after each session. Today I learnt backward crossovers and while I'm still far from doing it right, my feet kind of understood how it is supposed to work and that is just pure bliss!
    So much luck for your new passion! Hope you can take more lessons soon!

    I recently accepted a sort of hidden obsession with freestyle skating and I'm so stoked to start in the next few weeks! I've been a winter boy since I was very young growing up in Minnesota, but my family was never really the athletic type, so I wasn't introduced to any sports as a kid, besides ballet as a toddler. The only real experience I had with athletic activities was through exposure from my friends, one of which did martial arts and would show me what he was learning each time he came back from a class. I also loved trampolining at my friends houses and built up a really good tolerance for dizziness through that, which I'm really grateful for now as I don't ever get motion sick or dizzy. The main thing that has held me back from getting into a sport as an adult has been how much I hate everything about being warm. I don't enjoy the summers (seasonal affective disorder), I hate the feeling of my skin being really warm, and I've always flushed really easily, even if I'm not that hot. Since the summer is approaching, I was trying to lift my spirits a bit by watching some cold-weather centric content and decided to actually sit down and watch hockey seriously for the first time. Immediately I could feel myself longing race across the ice and feel the cold air hit me, so I did some research about what kinds of ice skating existed, and landed on freestyle skating. It feels like the perfect combination of all of the sport-adjacent things I loved doing growing up, and along with that, I can escape to a freezing room for a few hours every week!

      @aimeetea_  2 месяца назад

      I am glad you found a solution for the issue with feeling warm - freestyle skating is very impressive!
      At my rink, unfortunately, it’s not that cold at all. I also much rather prefer being in a colder room. And especially with skating, I get hot very quickly 🤷🏽‍♀️

    Literally was doing loads of research on skating because I'm about to start figure skating, and found this video. Your words are literally the exact reason I'm doing this, and you've got a new subscriber!! 142nd to be precise. Also you're so pretty and seem nice! I'm learning Korean so if you were too from that short, I feel like we're so similar lol

    You can skate at any age and you can start skating at any age. How far you go with it depends on your body and your mind. Take it easy at first, stick with it for 1 year, then you are either addicted or you are not.

      😂 Figure skating is so different from every other sport I’ve tried - really unique and very entertaining.
      Yes, I feel like I have accommodated myself to “fit” into martial arts instead of the sport being chosen to fit my style- I’ll have my first ballet lesson tomorrow so I am all into new and elegant sports.
      So happy people are getting into new activities regardless of age/skill etc.
      Thanks for watching and leaving this comment🥰🥰
