I agree. As a musician who was raised among bands, these errors don't appear to be something as simple as not paying attention. As you said, a tech wouldn't just run up and stop the band and drummer mid-song for a bad start or being slightly off time. Normally, a band would continue the song once started and address issues after the show. More than likely there were technical issues, possibly with his in-ear monitor or something, that kept throwing him off. Poor guy! From what I'm gathering though, the whole gig was a rough night. Glad they got through it.
