Man there's just something about this band.
You see photos of them and promotional material for them and you'd swear their a Japanese Slipknot, and then you sit down to listen to their music and are just absolutely floored by its beauty and richness.
It's that feeling when you realise music is an art form, that however few, their still exists artists that are not soulless cheap manufactured garbage made for corporations profit and a frontmans ego. This video was what I needed to keep any semblance of my love for music alive.
Fuck yeah man.
It is Kyo. Magic. That simple.
Correction, Slipknot is just like a Dir En Gray North American
@@dorothyaebutcher7103 and Kaoru - the heart of the band
my first thought on this song was 'vermillion pt2 bloodstone mix by slipknot' 😁
He doesn't summon these emotions to supply the performance. He summons the performance to cope with these emotions. This song in particular seems like a goodbye to someone.
Good point. This is why I love Kyo.
The most interesting part about this performance is how he changed the lyrics in the end part. The "original" lyrics are basicly just a very painful and creeping end that doesn´t seem to give any silver lining, in this performance however, while not being exactly positive, he still puts out a bit of a silver lining, making this a still hard and painful but a "completed" goodbye. That´s what I always loved about Dir En Grey, the first two years of hearing them I never bothered looking up lyrics, when I finally did, turned out the songs where exactly about the stuff I was thinking they where, and which is,to this day, fascinating to me is. Kyos ability to put a bit of a "silver lining", I would call it "positivity" but its not really that, into very sad songs. He is one of few people I know of that can be optimistic, pessimistic and a realist at the same time.
To me, the best music comes from those who can use their music to elicit those emotions and inject them into their work. Music resonates best when it comes from the hearts and minds of the musicians. By my standards, any one piece can only benefit from musicians who put all of themselves into their music.
I think that's why I used to listen to a lot of Marilyn Manson when I was in high school and college. I still enjoy his slower paced, more thought provoking songs because I feel in his own way he also expressed his emotions through music well and the kind of problems I was going through back then caused me to recognize that.
I feel Kyo, as well as Dir En Grey as a whole, do this more naturally and successfully than even M.M. Even though I don't speak or understand Japanese, I've never felt the need to look up any of Dir En Grey's lyrics because the emotions expressed within their music (especially Kyo's voice) are already self-explanatory and deliver all the emotional resonance I could ask for.
@@loneronin6813 An interesting outlook on the feel and possible meaning of DEG songs. I feel like I can relate to that. I feel like you expressed why I keep coming back to this band.
@@tarasbulba4512 Thanks so much for your comment :D It's cool to hear from someone who shares a similar outlook. I hope that you're doing well in all aspects of life and that you're having a great day.
kyo himself is art
That dead silence at the end until the mic drop says it all. No sound from the audience until it was really finished. Incredible.
I will never ever stop loving Dir En Grey im so glad i live in this lifetime
xxMUSHI the same
that's so sweet
It's a blessing haha
I know ... I love the future
Mushi is my cat's name. Now i go.
It's been 17 years and I always find my way back to this band.
I agree

Dir en grey
I don't need to know what he's saying for this to make me cry at the end. I can feel what he's singing.
That's what i love about music, you don't need to understand what he is singing.
You can just feel it either way * - *
Love Kyo...........
@mawari mawaru my feelings were right!
@@toumabunshin7998 I wish I was friends with him, so I could learn from him

Live
Kyo's meltdowns are the best thing on their concerts man.....so much heartfelt emotions that it's a speechless spectacle watching him. Just amazing.
So emotional! I don't understand a slightest word but this song touches me so deep.People who say"I don't like because I don't understand the lyrics" say bullshit because you don't need to understand the lyrics to love and be touched by a song.Good singers are the ones who succeed in transmitting emotions whatever the language.
jb youngfr the lyrics are beautiful but absolutely heartbreaking. There’s subtitled versions on RUclips but u can also google it. It’s about a girl slitting her Wrists and crying over a lover etc
my words!
Music conveys emotion beyond words.
@@DenisAshton whats the song title in romaji then so we can look it up
@@fermentingdragon It's been three weeks so you may have found the answer but the song is called "Zakuro" which means pomegranate.
I think their music has reached a new level over the past years. his voice is so different than when that song was released, somehow softer, somehow darker, absolutely haunting. Kaoru and Die play even more complex arrangements, and Toshiya's and Shinya's timing is so fluent and natural. They're in synch, they're one, not five.
Their music transcends language. I do not understand the words but feel the emotions anyways.
Holy SHIT, what an INCREDIBLE fucking performance dude. Talk about the hair standing up across your body and holding your your breath while watching this masterpiece of a band.
Zakuro (this song for those who dont know) was the very first song i ever heard from these guys back in like 2004 and have been listening ever since.
Seen them live 5 (or 6?) times, even caught one of Kaoru's guitar pic and at a different show i legit saw Toshiya and DIe walking around SF before the show and just gave them both the biggest hugs lol no joke, but i can tell you from experience from every show ive seen, they all put on a performance just as amazing as this one was. Best ever. But damn i wish i saw this live! i thinkk this is the only band i know that has NEVER had a line-up change since their band was formed in 1997, and they're still putting out albums!
Straight up my ALL-TIME favorite band ever.
oh my gosh what the heck is this!!! WHY NOW IN 2019 IM FINDING OUT ABOUT THIS . i HELD MY BREATH THROUGHOUT THE PERFORMANCE AND LITERALLY FELT EVERYTHINGGGGGGGGG JESUS!
Beautifull!!! FUcking Beautiful !!!!! His voice damn his voice and each member brought their charisma with each note they played whew..electric!
its never late to appreciate sth
welcome to the world that is dir en grey.
Zakuro is one of the older songs, if I'm not mistaken, a part of the Macabre album.
if you like this sound, you'll like Macrabe, trust me
@@someone1111 Zakuro is an amazing song and the whole macabre album is very good
There are few parts of this performance where Kyo just looks absolutely terrifying. It's those contacts lol. He's always been one for theatrics though.
Their costume design must be somewhat inspired by Marilyn Manson right?
@@suyo3380It's actually not hahah he said it a long time ago he really doesn't like Marilyn. And also I don't find their costumes similar to Manson.
@@anitarajkovic3801 Their costumes are very similar to Manson's, lol. Kyo's just a dick. He also said that he lies in interviews sooooooo.

Loved DirEnGrey for 18 years, and still forever they deserve my undying love. His voice is the child of love and pain and all the future holds.

OMG he screams as if he is being exorcised by an exorcist! I've never seen a vocal scream as natural and deep as that!
Dir
The silence in the end was so powerful
the Japanese audience at concerts always remain very silent when the band is playing a slow/sad song .. I think that very interesting lol
@@jhonnyxd1041 yeah, I think silence shows gratitude of the audience even better than the applause
Screaming and shouting during songs like this one is disrespectful, it's like interrupting someone talking to you! And they are talking to the audience! I wish I can go see them in Japan

This is probably one of the best live performances of this song. No matter how many times I watch, it always gets me emotional. And you can see that the band is feeling the song too.
wow, that was unexpected. never heard the band and found this track as a first. And pleased I was. That's some singing, I still have goosebumps. Divine I say. Must explore more now.
check out Macabre and Beth Roars Reacts to it
I've been following since around they first released Macabre, when JESSICA was released some months later as a brand-new single. I probably have it somewhere. His voice was SO different in these "new" live videos, I actually thought it was a cover except for the telltale guitar. It doesn't sound like him at all! His breathing support and diaphragm work has paid off significantly since then. You wouldn't know that he had a severe ear injury some years ago and had to cancel concerts because of it. He could barely stand up. It was so bad. And they're so strong now! I went to their concert when they came to America some years ago- amazing. You're in for a real treat!
The song that taught me the Japanese words for “scar” and “to add”
Also a go to song when I feel sad
This song taught me what "becomes ashes" and "I love you" in Japanese
My friend told me this song is about love.Zakuro in Japanese means pomegranate. The fruit is bitter on the outside but sour and sweet on the inside, which is so alike bitter sweet love.
One of the few songs that pretty much always makes me cry. And I don't even speak Japenese. I don't know the meaning of the lyrics and still Kyo manages to hit the very core of my soul with this tune.
What do you mean Kyo? The entire band is doing an amazing job!
I listen to this song every night
Almost 20 years later and he sings with the same passion. Forever one of my favorite Dir en grey songs.
If you guys think this is a good live. Look it up at the Blitz 5 live.
Its heart wrenching good.
7:03 I cried my lungs out. I made kyo's scream the expression of my agony that I can't myself express
Listening to Kyo cures my depression
I think that probably listening to Dir is the cause of your depression... but ok...
@@zuN-ch5ed I mean the song helps me feel better :)
My favorite song EVER, i've been waiting so LONG to hear this song as a live performance again, to me nothing will be more emotional than the Blitz 5 Days one, but it's still amazing, and heartbreaking, i love this song so fucking much. Thanks alot
FlauTouw omg, same!
well he lost the young angst he had and it is now replaced by more maturity I guess. The solo is nice this time around though but the unplugged version from 2007 was also a great rendition
I agree. If I could go back in time to see a concert it would be blitz 5 days!! Kyo was 110% channeling the soul of this song. Sad thing is I think I was in Japan at the time but was stupid and just didn't know. (And was probably busy anyway)
I like the pain in my heart when I listen to this song.
What is this song called tho?
The best japanese band of all time. Period.
I didn’t know they still played this live. God, I love this song so much.
