Plot twist: You're better than everyone demoing this guitar!
I appreciate your disposition - it comes through as sincerely honest
@@owlauxGR thank you. I appreciate the compliment.
This thang is dope. I'm going to play my next gig with nothing but the middle pickup on a strat just so you can cringe knowing that it's happening. You won't know when, you won't know where, but it's going to happen.
I took the Tomo Fujitsu challenge and played middle pickup only for 30 days 😂😂 made me mo better
I happen to like the middle pick up 😂
aka the Jerry setting
A bit like getting in a new Porsche after driving an 80's VW.
And Ryan ---Stuart Smalley wants you to know: Your are good enough, smart enough, and doggonit people like you
They crushed it with the Solar Flare color. I want one….. 😅
I had a music man Albert Lee signature that was amazing in every way … but I brought it back for the reason you mentioned that I didn’t feel ready for such an expensive… pro instrument. The feeling has sort of changed since owning my Gibson Sg for years now . If you enjoy it . And it inspires you then skill level shouldn’t melter :)
I have never seen a color that was so perfectly matched to a player than the thumbnail for this video.
Ha! Nice. Good catch.
Hair, shirt & skin
Matches
Body, pickguard & fretboard. 😂
@@robraaiii That too, but I just meant that the color looked like the color he would have chosen if he had the entire rainbow to choose from based on his other guitars and his style.
@@seanlucas1538 i figured you meant something like that. But the more I looked, the a was chuckling
Just from the thumbnail alone that's one of the most 'Ryan' looking guitars I've ever seen aha, love it
You ARE worthy!
This guitar with your gold Rev amp behind you would be an awesome pairing both visually and sonically.🤔👍✨
The Middle pickup is really an ideal rhythm guitar sound. You got the Bridge for leads and the Neck pickup to get those nice warm glassy tones. When I got into Strats I was actually surprised how much I really liked the Middle pickup. My buddy who is a Strat guy said it is ideal for a pickup in the middle of an acoustic sound hole. Anyways, the Middle pickup is a place where I like to play.😉👍✨
Same. When I play my Strat, I use the middle quite a bit for rhythm stuff. I hardly ever use 2 or 4 although there is a song my band has been working on where I'm very deliberately going for a Prince funk thing, so that one gets position 2. But that's not normal for me (I love Prince, but I'm no Prince - nor am I good enough for that guitar).

So one fix for this is the "Easy" "Gringo Mod" (yeah that's me) which makes the usual Strat switching a bit backwards but it may be better for you. The "Easy" way to do this is to take the Middle and Neck pickup and just swap them. (The hard way is to actually wire the switch this way.) The main reason I do this is that the normal 2 position is not something I care for and I would rather have a Bridge and Neck option like my Teles.
What this does is it makes positions 1, 2, and 3 the same as a Tele (I am mainly a Tele guy) and positions 4 and 5 are essentially reversed. So it's:
1: Bridge
2: Bridge and Neck
3: Neck
4: Neck and Middle
5: Middle
The "Easy" version is ideal for a set of pickups that has the Middle reverse wound so that you still get the hum cancelling in positions 2 and 4. In doing this you have to set the pickup heights by ear as the Neck will be slightly farther away (as it is usually hotter as a Middle wound pickup) and the Middle pickup will be slightly closer to the strings since it is weaker. My experience is that there is not that much difference. It's also super easy to put it back to stock and requires no soldering.
The "Hard" way to do the "Gringo Mod" would be to wire the switch intentionally and I would recommend that if you are using pickups that are not a set and you don't really have the hum cancelling feature for 2 and 4.
I also "Dumb Down" my Strats by just having one volume and one tone like a Tele and the open hole is for a killswitch. It also ruffles Strat Player's feathers. 👹👍✨
Alright, so in terms of specs, I’m thinking this is exactly what I would expect if a Strat and an EVH Wolfgang had a baby.
Gawd, my signature guitar, if it had black hardware and black block inlays, lol. Reminds me of Sid Mcguiness from David Letterman's band, one of my all-time favorite guitarists. Love this guitar, great funny review, as always!
Wish they had the Meteora in that color. Great demo and great guitar!
PREACH! Fender chose the 3 most boring colors, and didn't even give the matching headstock to the black one like they did with the tremolo version.
Rumor has it that the paint from the "Fender" decal on the headstock is the same color-shift ink used on the US $100 bill
I enjoy listening to non-shredding guys, shred. They play interesting and fresh metal tunes exactly because their main influences are other things.
I said that when you dissed Eart. So did many in the comment section. A man got to know his limitations. At least your trying, kid. 🕵♂🎸
I’m not much for gold guitars, and black pickguards don’t do anything for me…. so naturally I LOVE the looks of this baby! This is just damn cool. I love Strats, but I’ve got to admit that I’m a little bored of seeing them over and over again. THIS one pulled me out of my Stratophunk. Congratufrigginlations.
Who cares if a low ability guitar player buys this guitar, for many people, regardless of their ability, buying this guitar and others like it,brings joy from the purchase and owning experience.
I put glow in the dark dots on my Mesa Nomad100 amp. I engraved a dot on each arrow. Then put flat black on the arrow. Then fill the dot with glow in the dark green Martha Stewart paint.
You can already play _miserlou_ in your sleep, so you can hop on a quick path to some Shred:
- For fundamental warm-up learn/practice your favorite Sabbath tune, and _nail_ it.
- then learn "For Whom the Bell Tolls" (or your preferred medium tempo number) by Metallica, then
- pick a Megadeth song (the album _Rust in Peace_ imho is their best) , or a more challenging Metallica song ('master of puppets' works well here) if you you're still intimidated. Keep it up and you'll be shredding 'Hangar 18' and 'Battery' in no time ....well, maybe in a few months.
[some obsession required] : D
p.s. love Lurve LURVING the Surfy Bear metal that arrived yesterday !!! I've got Gardner's "TOP 200 SURF TUNES" YT playlist on heavy rotation for the last 24 hrs, copping everything that catches my ear : ^D
It got a quarter sawn neck as well.
@@1972Georges yep!
I have this video a like to combat the Big Ryan self hate in the thumbnail
BWUHAHA my evil clickbait plan is working!
Just living your best life over there! So happy for you
I REALLY want this exact strat, in this colour (the blue is so nice as well)... but I went for the Meteora... really like that Avalanche colour, and the bass and treble roll offs were a pretty cool touch. I also just love that the Meteora is looking like it's going to stick around.
Really want them to come out with a surfy meteora. People are doing kit style builds that direction so maybe fender will take the hint eventually.
@@60CycleHumcast that was something I was kind of hoping for as well. Each Meteora has been pretty different from the last, so I’m hopeful they keep using it as a somewhat blank canvas to do new interesting things (or old interesting things! lol)
If they ever make basically a JM or Jag Meteora… oh mama…
@@GamerPastHisPrime they should do a baritone meteora with an offset trem/bridgr and wide range pickups.
@@60CycleHumcastI want a strat layout Meteora next with the same tone controls as this model.
How many piece body do you think it is? 👍🏻
Someone said Eric Clapton would use the middle pickup alone for hours on end, Not sure what amp but it was probably loud :)
it's like ham radio where you wont get the top license to do the cool stuff but one for most things
Great review! Hey, I use my middle Strat pick up now and again to remind me how much I love and prefer the other selections. Almost sounds like a very weak SG. 🤪
Yeah, I'm not worthy either!😄I onlly have a basic AmPro Ash Strat. Would be neat to have one though....🙃 (I enjoyed your video)
It’s a beautiful guitar 😎🎸🎶☮️
That is the perfect collor for u!. I've got a Pro II, one step below that one.
I got a twin humbucker version with Strat vibrato, high output PUs in Burgundy Mist for $150 mint cond. tremendous build quality / extremely versatile.
I don't like a middle pickup, specifically, but position 2 and 4 are awesome!
Those ultra II guitars are just so so so magnificent....specially the Tele with the Arm cut!!... my deal breaker...are the sc noiseless pups....I just hate them... I would prefer the american Profesional that has terrific single coils....
This one sounded good, but the demos I've watched with those Noiseless pickups in the past seemed a bit sterile. Maybe my ears are just tuned to more vintage tones and like things a little more raw. And I don't do high gain stuff so a little hum doesn't really bother me. But that Tele is pretty cool. I like the burst/gold anodized pickguard one. Give me some vintage-voiced Lollars in it and I'd be a happy guy.
My take: uh-huh I think this guitar is 20 years late.
And that fender standard stock and Squier stock should be about 60% noiseless pickups - as a standard.
On other other hand maybe people like hiss hum squawk and even occasional CB radio interference thru amps?
Putting noisegates on amps - even tho hidden - is a good idea but making noiseless pickups as a standard is an even better idea.
Besides the weak colors, and the eq tweak of the pickups, whats the difference between the old ultra?
I am not sure what your definition of pro musician is, but you gig/play live, have at least one album I'm aware of, have written songs and make a living playing/demoing music gear. You are, at the very least, a working musician so let yourself enjoy some nice tools of the trade. I'd love to get my hands on one of these Ultra II's, it sounds like they borrowed some neck shape from Charvel and Jackson
I'm surprised they didnt send you the offset
I’m not good enough to demo this guitar either
FYI, you are a professional by simply getting paid to do a job!
Great playing, as always!
I'm good enough, send it to me :D
Yeah, that guitar is made for serious pros. Session musicians. Touring musicians. That's not me. I play in my bedroom and occasionally at a local club. I'm good with my modded Squiers.
I would normal take out the single coil bridge. I prefer HSS. My Fender Nashville Telecaster is going to have the Seymour Duncan Red Devil in the bridge.
*looks around* I think we're all just regular people playing guitars. *Spots Joe Satriani in the Corner* Hey, get out of here Mr. Ibanez! ...anyways, as I was saying...Keep up the good work!
Do ya’ll still sell that ‘Stay Grounded’ shirt? Also great review as always!! ^^
60-cycle-hum.creator-spring.com/listing/wear-stay-grounded?product=211
I have been seeing many demo channels reviewing these fenders. And while I think it’s a great guitar, most people can’t afford this guitar. I also feel like most people can’t play good enough to own it in the first place 😂. I know I don’t need it.
i'm not good enough to watch this demo :P
Dude I’m not good enough for any of my guitars. If they required a license, I may not even rate a learners permit. I’ll never grow into them, but it’s like a 10 year old owning Babe Ruth’s bat
Well then.....I guess I'm not either but I'll watch anyway
Fender is way to much of a fun mod platform for me to ever justify such a price point. Awesome but I’d rather build one for a grand less lol well maybe
This thing skews too far into the modern side for my taste, but damn can I ever appreciate it! It looks like a fantastic instrument and I bet it feels like you’re holding a Ferrari
I don't play worth a crap, and I own an Ultra HSS strat and a Les Paul modern.
Maybe I need to start demoing gear on youtube to get some nice gear! lol
It’s easier to just buy it lol
@@60CycleHumcast You make it look so fun though!
Don't sell yourself short- all the youtube guitar shills got one for free too...
No roasted maple and stainless frets? 2300$ ?? No thank you!
Oh my goodness! A Fender stratocaster! Wow I've never seen one of those before. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Your first time seeing a strat? That’s incredible. There’s so many Strats out there I’d assume that most people would have seen one by now
"Tusk" .
I’m 53 and been taking lessons for 8 months, I’m not worthy
Ryan, I think these guitars are for the PRS' ed segment... That buy guitars as fine furniture and are waay overpriced. Yes, I'm, sure it is a great guitar. The problem being there are several Strat
types that will play as well , sound better (in that they actually have single coil pickups) maybe stainless steel frets, rolled fingerboard... for about half the $$$
Also "professionals" who probably see their instruments as tools to make $$$ with, will be looking to LOWER their costs by buying instruments that perform as well, but costs waay less
And are not as attractive as theft targets ...
In all likelyhood, the only "Pros" using these ,will be Pros that Fender gave them to ...
PS the finish is Mountain Dew !
The idea that pro guitarists don't use high dollar gear is the most preposterous idea that I've ever heard of. $2250 for a guitar isn't even all that much. Go watch pro guitarists. They've got more than $2,300 in their pedalboards alone. I have had people on my podcast that are pros, have been techs for pros, or used to tour extensively and every single one of them wouldn't think twice about taking $2k, $3k, or even $4k instruments out on the road and most of them do.
Also re: PRS - while they're not my style, there's an AWFUL LOT of them out there on stages both amateur and pro making an awful lot of music.
I don't know where this idea that "pro guitarists" don't use high dollar gear came from, but it's laughably inaccurate.
Amazing guitar... pathetic color IMHO (yes I get it's subjective). The Sinister red on the other hand is just phenomenal IMHO :)
I haven’t seen it in person yet but metalic red and blue and boring to me. I love this golden margarita metalic though. Different strokes.
i HATE the 2 point trem on strats..
yeah id like to see that guitar frive down a street fast 120 mph not looking at the road WHAT WHAT???? im way too cool for a guitar man Id get a sticker built by Fender played by a dude with 20 inch guns WHAT!!!??? THAT GUITAR DOESNT EVEN HAVE A FACE TATTOO!!1
That thing is terrible.
....but you are good enough to give Fender your money.
