I’ve been hoping you’d get a chance to drive an LFX swapped RX8, so I’m super happy to see this. Andrew Keisler is amazing to work with and the parts he builds are beautiful. I bought my RX8 new and I’ve been driving it over 15 years. It was time for something new but the more I looked I found all I really wanted was an RX8 that made 100+ more horsepower reliably and was still a great daily driver and track toy. When I first got mt RX8 I got it for the fact that I love RX8s and I'm not a big Rotary guy. I figured I'd rock the Rotary till it went out then go LFX or LS. But after 4 years. 50k miles. Hours upon hours of heavily spirited Drives alone and with friends, and some track time. I love the Renesis. I think its an awesome engine if you can resist the temptation of more power, and get faster through skill.
My dream build for the RX-8 however would be something worth of directly competing against a 996 GT3. NA 20B with about 300-350whp. Good street oriented suspension wheel and tire setup. Maybe light aero, and the whole car be done in a way that you would think Mazda themselves built it, and looked 100% "stock" even done to the bean counter effect on certain parts.

I'd prefer a K series built to rev to 8k+ but this is a much more cost effective swap and the character still fits the car. Those V6s sound pretty good and rev high enough. Plenty of power too...the only thing is it looks like it has a lot of rev hang. Wonder how easy it is to tune that out....

Interesting choice of engine and pretty unusual as most folks would rather swap in an LS. If the aim is to stay around the same peak power, but do away with rotary engine quirks/headaches, the LFX does seem like the better match to the RX-8 though and more of a lateral move. If it means retaining the same sweet handling then I'm all for it, although the powertrain character does change from peaky to grunty.
This swap job looks SOLID though! No funny stuff while you were driving it?

If Mazda had been a bit more brave by putting a triple rotor in the RX8 it would have been really amazing but I understand why they didn't as the fuel consumption would be even more appalling! I average around 16-17 mpg so a triple rotor might be more like 12-13MPG. And remember when the RX8 was on sale it was competing against cars like the Golf GTI which had around the same power as the RX8 but way better fuel consumption! It's a shame 20Bs are so hard to come by as swap could turn the RX8 into the perfect car (well for me anyway ;-)

You ever race one? The heat that gets put into the floor boards and then into you is a serious thing.
1800f egts at wot is a lot of grass fire setting heat in your exhaust. I thought i would regret the change when i switched to pistons but how wrong i was.

It has 3 sides to each rotor each side is doing what a piston would be doing in a piston engine,(intake, compression, combustion, exhaust), so compare it to a v6, 2 rotors x 3 rotor faces, so not 1.3 liter or 2.6, actually 3.9 liter. Mazda is calling it 1.3 liter being the 2 combustion chambers added together, just as any piston engine is all cylinders combustion chambers added together, but you have to remember, a piston engines cylinders are only on combustion one at a time.

@@MarinatedPasta if you needed 4 seats you could have a g35 for similar money to a 350z. Or even a genesis coupe 3.8. And this definitely cost more to replacate than the cost of a 350z, you could pick a decent one of for 6k or a great one for 12k, and im sure ghe work required to swap the engine, transmission and differential and then getting the electronics to work would be atleast 10k in especially if you are going through a shop not including the cost of the car. So youd probably be into this car atleast 15k. You could almost afford to buy and boost an FRS/BRZ got that money with how cheap they are getting. Its a cool and interesting package but you can have other cars that do the same functions and deliver similar performance for much cheaper. And likely would be easier to mod and maintain the other cars considering they'd still have their factory motor.

Problem is you can’t buy one unless you’re ordering it directly from Honda Motorsports for a Honda build.
