    Yeah, @Guillermo Iraheta is right, part of the culture in El Salvador and many places in Latin America is pretty normal calling friends, family or even people that you don't know by nicknames, like for example, in a group of friends everyone call each other a nickname almost always based on your physical appearance , if you have darker skin thats for sure they'll name you Negro or prieto, if you have a big mouth, they call you Trompudo o trompas if you are short theyll call you Chaparro, Enano (dwarf), if you are Overweight they'll call you Gordo o Gordito, etc, its a cultural thing, in many cases you don't even know your long time friend's real madden name until years later lol, here in the USA that will be seemed like really disrespectful, offensive or even Bullying, but not in Latin Culture, it's hard to comprehend , but for sure that kid on the video didn't do with any hate or racist way, you can see his naiveness.
    Thank you for your respond to the situation as well, God Bless you my friend.

    Hey man! Hope you are doing great. Welcome to my country!
    We definitely experienced racism in the past. However, we learned, i think, how to deal with that.
    Here in El Salvador we don't find offensive when someone call us by a nickname that make reference how we look like. For example, white skin people we call them "chele", skinny people we call them "flaco" or "seco". Salvadorean way of thinking is way different than americans'. in my opinion, americans find almost everything offensive.
    Well, I may be wrong, but that's what I think. But anyway, I hope you enjoy my country and you are welcome always 🙂

    • @JayCeeMax
      @JayCeeMax  3 года назад +2

      Thanks for your feedback.
      Yes, I am aware of the moreno/negro not being racist argument. I get the history of how it could be and how it could not be. For me, I take it on a case by case basis, that's why in my captions you see I say that "It depends."
      So, it depends on the persons heart and their motive while saying it. If your intention is to deride, make fun and ridicule someone for being that skin tone then yes, a person using those same exact words in El Salvador could teeter on the field of being racist.
      The guy on the truck yelled "negro" at me multiple times and was laughing at me while saying it over and over. I felt no "love" or "term of endearment" from that encounter. So, it depends. It could be or it could not be.
      It's all good hermano Geo. I'm not gonna lose sleep over it.

    My apologies for those disrespectful people Jay Cee. Some people are very rude, but for the majority we are more kind and humble people. When I go to El SALVADOR I don't eat street food. Especially drinks. As the water they use is not the most clean and I had bad stomach problems. We go to El mercado buy fruits, vegetables, and whatever we want to eat and cook at home.

    Most of us Salvadorans are of color, here there is no racism, sorry but among young people they joke like that but still there is always kindness and friendship between everyone and with the market, my friend I think that it was too late at that time and what was left of the day and since you were a foreigner they teased you, don't come back so late at 9 or 10 am the fresh product is sold.

    Nice content, also in Latin America negro and negrita isn't derogatory unless the word before it is negative. My Dominican neighbor called her husband negro all the time as a kid until as an adult I found out his name was Victor. Also I thought the lady who asked for melones @4:41 was asking you

    • @JayCeeMax
      @JayCeeMax  3 года назад

      I understand. That's why I said it depends. I don't know the heart of the man that yelled "negro" multiple times and then laugh. Why laugh after saying it you know what I mean. So it very well could be derogatory they way he was saying it and projecting it towards me. Plus, possibly being called "chimp" multiple times from 2 different people is another issue in itself. But more on this in the future. Many more videos to show. Thanks for the feedback.

    Bro, if you consider we have offend you, i apologize in their behalf. however just to mention for us in either El salvador, Guatemala, Honduras we have the "say" of calling people with dark skin as a "charm" way of saying it Mi negrito or mi negro. hwoever we do not do it in the offensive way as US culture or Europe culture. perhaps someone needed to explain it to you and avoid misunderstanding. I am glad you are liking our country and we hope this doesnt change your point of view.
    Once again, we apologize and i can guarantee it was part of our Charm way of calling someone.

    When we call " negro" somebody, its not in a racist way. On the contrary, we do it, in kind of pride.
    I have many friends that we call negro. Its offensive when we say it, accompanied with another adjective ( bad word).
    What happens its, we see the black people with curiosity, because there's not to many people of black race in El Salvador. There's "morenos", people with darker skin.
