I have an acquaintance who has two preteen children. She STILL makes them wear masks everywhere they go, including outside, or to their grandparents (who don’t wear masks), and on their regular mountain hikes. It breaks my heart. To me, it is breeding a psychological condition. It’s abusive.

These people are often a product of something not going right during childhood and development, to a more extreme extent than average, whether it's neglect, lack of parenting, lack of love, attention, guidance, lack of stability from parents, it has impacted them but instead of getting and receiving therapy, they are getting and embracing the new woke motto of "love yourself no matter what", you can love yourself and still strive to get better rather than embracing morbid obesity, changing up genders back and forth, yelling at strangers for not knowing all of your triggers, looking a mess but wanting to be taken seriously at work, working with kids when your own heavy issues aren't being addressed and so on. It's a collective chaos and social media is fueling it into self absorption so anyone, including doctors, can't even give healthy advice without being labeled as oppressors, it's ridiculous.

Boyfriend should have gotten up without saying a word, go back to the ticket counter, cancel BOTH tickets, called and cancelled whatever destination reservations they had, got in a taxi and gone home. Leave the GF to deal with attempting to board an airplane with a now invalid boarding pass. Lastly, removed all of GF's possession from their residence and changed the locks.

I never used to be ill, but twelve years ago our son died aged 5½ years old, and slowly I began to get symptoms of all sorts. Lots of years of tests, prescriptions, and diagnoses. Fibromyalgia, Hypothyroidism, High Blood Pressure, Vitamin Deficiencies, Pernicious Anaemia, Crohn's Disease, Advanced Degenerative Disc Disease.
Just getting over a Full Abdominal Hysterectomy, had the surgery 3 weeks ago. I was bleeding post-menopause, and found out my womb had Endometrial Hyperplasia, which was Pre-Cancerous. I'm actually on the phone right now whilst typing this, working my way up the call queue on loudspeaker, to see if my biopsy results are back. Wish me luck!
The reason I felt she was being a pain in the arse rather than mentally ill etc, is because usually if you see someone freaking out in public, even violently, the person they're with is usually doing their best to reassure them and calm them down. They're also typically well prepared for something to trigger them, take steps to avoid something that could trigger them, and are protective of them, especially if bystanders get involved or make comments. In other words that person's outburst is part and parcel of an underlying condition and not something they are necessarily in control of.
So I would have expected her boyfriend to be leading her away from others, so they could be in their own safe space. Also because of being aware that the noise could alarm people around them and put them in a position where other people start wading into the commotion, because they don't understand. He's literally sitting there harangued into mortified silence, totally non responsive, as you'd imagine an abuse victim to react, fearing anything they do or say could trigger the abuser more.
I've seen grown adults with mental issues have a full on meltdown screaming and ranting like her, although in their defense, screaming and ranting in fear or from overpowering emotional responses - not being abusive. For example my friend's son is 42 and got a screw loose, and the least thing can set him off on literally the most vile tirade of abuse I've ever heard from ANYONE, with threats of violence and swearing and calling his parents, family, and friends every *F√cking C√nt* known to mankind. Then five minutes later he's making everyone a cup of tea like nothing happened. He never hits anyone though, and would probably shit himself if someone called him out on his threats, truth be told.
But my friend can call him a pain in the arse when she's confiding in me, but she'd be mad at anyone else saying it. It's cost him friendships and relationships his whole life, he has children with women who want nothing to do with him. It's also cost my friend friendships all her son's life, because no one chooses to try and understand and instead takes his outbursts personally. It's not that she makes excuses for him either, because even I almost withdrew from her when I first met him, believing her of enabling his behaviour. It's difficult for all of them, but it's hellish for him to live with. He pushes people away from him from getting close cos he knows they'll leave him eventually anyway.
So my comment wasn't because I have a low tolerance for volume or lack of compassion, you know? Not saying you implied that, I'm just chit chatting and explaining my thought process. It was more her boyfriend's LACK of action that stood out to me, than it was specifically about HER. His lack of reassurance towards her, offering her comfort or trying to calm her down, and ESPECIALLY not telling others to keep their judgemental comments to themselves, it what leads me to believe she just being abusive, rather than reacting to something he's done.
Besides, we've all been on the receiving end of shit from partners, and all screamed our lungs out to them for doing it....but not right there in a public setting! Maybe when you're a teenager or young adult you might scream out "Well you can f√ck off then!" or similar outburst, because two of you are arguing back and forth. But I've never seen anyone yell and screech like that at someone being silent and non combative, in public. It's just asking for bystanders to intervene at that point! I'd understand if she is mentally unstable, but he isn't responding like you'd expect someone to if their loved one had a public outburst.
Hahaha imagine if, _plot twist_ he's not her boyfriend, doesn't know her, just sitting in the airport minding his own business when a random nutjob just sat next to him and started ranting in his face! 😂🤣😅

For all we know her outburst was triggered by finding out that he went and spent all the money in her checking account that she was saving up carefully. She is clearly unstable but that doesn't automatically make him blameless, and she might be my a victim than anything. I knew a girl like that once. The guy lived off her SSI for a couple years, she got a free apartment, etc. But she would act totally irrational sometimes. She ended up getting him put in jail, said he tried to kill her. Still not sure who to believe on that one. But he definitely got himself put there. She was nuts, he used her for her disability check.
