Thank you! This game has so much and can be really overwhelming. After seeing everyone’s reactions to Xenoblade 3 I decided to start from the beginning in hopes of having the same appreciation for the series. It’s hard to start, especially since with kids, a job a house etc I don’t get to play nearly as much as I’d like to. Super helpful thank you. I really didn’t want to miss out on this series. Thanks for making it easier to get the hang of.
Absolutely! I felt similarly and devoted myself to playing through them, even though it took quite a bit of time. At the end of the day, it was so worth it. Good luck and thanks for your comments :)
I was in the same spot, lackluster writing and thoughts of "singleplayer mmo" went through my head for the first 12 hours but after that i was hooked after delving deeper into the gameplay systems and finding them really interesting. And the writing and story picked up quite a bit toward the end. I did focus on completing the game, did no extra side quests because i want to get on with the series, if not i could see myself spending more time with this game playing end-game plus etc. Looking forward to playing the next installment in the series!
I was so discouraged starting this game. 20 hours in now, and I really love it. Don’t be afraid to switch to casual mode, unless you’re a hard core gamer and need the bragging rights, lol. Playing in the easier mode has allowed me to slowly get better and understand the battle system and really get into the story and the massively beautiful world. This tutorial was massively helpful! Thank you!
For anyone playing the game for the first time: don't feel intimidated to experiment with any other characters, all are usable and they don't really fall much behind in experience when you're not using them You can swap them anytime you want and switching things up makes the game much more fun
Hey man thank you so so much for this. Video I’m becoming a massive JRPG fan & Xenoblade is one I’ve always wanted to try so I got it as a college graduation gift & have been playing it. I’m absolutely loving the story but the game is massively overwhelming this really helped out lot
Congrats on graduating! I was also very overwhelmed but the game (the whole series actually) is so worth the investment. I’m glad the guide could help.
@@thatnintendoquality Thank you very much. And yeah I’m about 10ish hours in & man I’m already hooked. The story is interesting & hype. Shulk is that guy & the combat is fun. Just such a gripping game already.
Thanks! Bought this game very cheap and haven’t even started yet, but i now know that it’s best to use the protagonist and exploit his combo :) Accept as many quest as i can, make sure the shield dude gets aggro all the time and explore the shit out of it. Got it!
@@thatnintendoquality I’m playing this game nonstop it’s that good👍 Really like the story so far. I figured out on how to use Melia and she’s insane! You should recommend beginner players to use Melia once they unlock her hehe :)
@@Patrickvdm23 It's so much fun. I'm glad you're liking it. Melia is a bit more of a complicated party member but very rewarding! If you like this game play the sequels too. It's a fantastic series!
@@thatnintendoquality Yes i will play the sequel’s to. My only problem is Xenoblade 2’s price tag, the game is 6 years old and still full priced. It’s not that i can’t afford it, but it’s a bit to much tbh. As it stands now, Xenoblade 1 will probably be one of the best games i have ever played. Last game sucked me in like that”Do not overthink it:P” was Witcher III years ago. Thanks for this guide btw, started the game like i was playing for years because of it👍
I'm currently playing Xenoblade on my New 2DS XL and MAAAAAN this games is for me who is new to JRPG's a great Fun. I'm only 7 hours in but the story is just gripping (if you know... you know). It hooked me like no other story in a videogame and the battla system is a breath of fresh air. The beginners guide is great, thank you and man the game looks great on the Switch!
Also a tip: TRADE WITH EVERYONE!!! on my very first playthrough on 3ds, i was overwhelmed and didnt catch the trade tutorial and i didnt realize i could trade with anyone until i started new gane plus lol
I played the original versions on both Wii and 3DS. When I first played this, I got confused and it was pretty tricky to get through. As I play more and more, I learned how to play and enjoyed it. It takes a lot of time to understand the mechanics and the gameplay itself.
Thanks man.i got the game with my switch but i like the turn based RPG's, so after a few minutes i gave up and it bothered me because i know it's a great game. Your video helped me finally play this game. Thx
Im also a turn based fan. But Xenoblade 3s combat is so good. Im still getting used to this one. But it's similar. It's a great system after you get it down
I’m a life long 49 year old Busy Dad Gamer, I just finished Metroid Dread , I want to try my first JRPG and going to start The first one Definitive version, great video, and like you said, I’ll be patient, learn from the ground ⬆️ up, start slow and my buddy told me to do as many side quests as I can. Cheers!
I had stopped playing it for a long time when I was like 20 hours in. Felt like I progressed too slow and stuff and almost didn't level up. I always fight with the weaker mobs for exp but now I know that I have to do more quests haha. I'm not really big on talking with every npc in a game but I want to experience all xenoblade stories so I might give it a try again as this video gives great tips on how to play the game.
I’ll be honest, I completely underestimated this game. I wasn’t too sure about it since you “auto battle” but can still choose arts to use, but man it can get hard. You definitely can’t just lay your switch down and watch the fight, you gotta really pick and choose and think about what to do lol. It’s starting to grow on me
I was insistent on finishing the Xenosaga story before I dove into Xenoblade (better late than never right??) I started this weekend and I am already hooked, line and sinker. Thanks for the tips bc this game already feels delightfully overwhelming 😊
XBC1 always felt as though the battles are so team specific and I have a hard time experimenting with party members that aren't Shulk Reyne and Sharla. Dunban is okay at absorbing aggro and has high evasion. But the lack of good healers makes this game so difficult. Enemies that can't be taken down with specific characters also drives me crazy. LR;DR I just feel confined while playing this game whereas the two sequels allows me to have much more freedom and customization thus making it more fun and easy
While I still enjoy it, I probably think it’s the least fun combat in the series, with X being only slightly better. Agree that I prefer 2 and 3’s combat over both though.
so many systems i love these games but also oh my god. i'm glad i never turned on the casual mode because i absolutely need to engage with a teams designs and come to terms with them to better understand the game as a whole. the bosses in the game got me so frickin mad, until the ether mine i really got it together there. learning the level penalty stuff and also learning to chill with shulk is important. if you're feeling like you have to rush with shulk then maybe the level is off.
I didn't consider about the enemy exp at all but I still consider fight at least some cause it saved me the little bit of hassle for some quests since some enemies need to be killed so when I got the actual quest it automatically completed so I didn't have to backtrack. Now obviously it doesn't work out like that if I didn't get the item right away, haven't seen the enemy required or for some enemies I skip over. But still at least knocked out a few quests without having to backtrack
I started. This game 3x getting a couple hours in each time but couldnt understand combat or anything, I picked up again last week and this time it is clicking and im 20 plus hours, although I still dont understand skill trees or affinity charts lol
Awesome! It’s very complicated. I made a guide and I still don’t understand everything. Hope you enjoy the game and if you have questions feel free to ask them here
thanks for this guide I found it very enjoyable I have a question about this game because I've never played it except maybe for about 5 minutes at a friend's house years ago does the game do a good job of explaining how the combat works I've seen videos of the combat on RUclips and it looks a little complicated
Xenoblade 3 has great combat drills. If you don't like this one I suggest playing 3. Same style combat but better controls. And an amazing story and characters
The story/core experience is not much different. The Switch version has a brand new epilogue (it’s a separate mode). It’s cool but you don’t miss too much story skipping it. Switch version also has some nice-to-have stuff like easier/clearer battle HUD and menus, indicators on which arts are most effective, etc. Switch version is probably the overall best choice. But Wii and 3DS versions are still great.
I disagree with the last tip. Ot course grinding will help overcome any story battle, but it discourages the player from learning to play effectively - and the missing issue is negatable with agility gems, any ether arts, toppling, agility down debuffs etc. The player wont really grasp the combat, and instead believe that the only solution is to level up in order to win as if this is final fantasy 7 or whatnot
Great point. Of course you can level grind to become overpowered, so it helps if a certain fight is causing new players to get stuck. But I agree with you it’s quite possible to win despite the penalties which is a great added challenge and encourages more advanced strategy. Winning using the right build/strategy is more rewarding than just grinding.
Indeed, i purposely lower my level so it's three level lower than the enemy (yellow colored tag) because fighting lower/same level enemy is just boring
The overwhelming majority of side quests I've come across in the 20 hours I've played so far don't have exp as a reward, so I'm not really seeing how that's more efficient than just grinding.
I’m…30?40? Hours in. And…It’s aight. The dialogue is pretty butts though I have definitely heard worse. You will never want to hear the words “the Monado” again in your LIFE and I’m only half way through… Other than that it’s a really great world, decently interesting story so far, though not mind-blowing, the characters are ok and I am reasonably attached to most of them, and the combat is a lot of fun. So, overall happy with it and it really shines in some areas, but it hasn’t been the mind-blowing experience some have had with it.

I find playing handheld is so much better. It makes it way easier to play. Even if it's just 30 minutes. You can set it down. And pick it back up.
