the mooring posts with the mooring ring be able to travel freely up and down ,shows you how high it could go,the screw in the shower drain should have been a stainless steel screw, so it should not have rusted away

When I was a kid my dad used to tell me ALL the time, owning a home means that there is ALWAYS something to do. Now that I am OLD and have 4 adult children, I tell them all "Owning a home means there is always something to do". LOL My mother owned a tailor and alteration shop for many years so I grew up around hemmers, and a shop full of sewing machinery. She would have enjoyed watching you do your magic. Anyway, glad to see you guys are doing well, take care.

Hey Mel n Paul its so wonderful to see you again. When you painted your roof white, I wondered how long that would last before the sun's reflection cut your eyes out. It didn't even make it that far. Now its B&Q sand and another coat. Interesting British fact #17,451. Ye is printer's shorthand for The. So it is still The Old Trip to Jerusalem pub. Interesting that you were worried about the rain ang the river level. Here in Brisbane Australia we just had a meter of rain in 3 days. That's 39 inches in the old money. The news here is full of people being flooded out and loosing everything they own, along with all sorts of water craft being smashed into jetties and piers and its all quite horrific. Not quite a hundred mph wind, but bad enough. A tuff stretch with the floor waste in the shower. I can't wait to see how you get that one sorted. All the best. Cheers

Hi Mel & Paul we're fellow leak buddies 😀 One of our damp detectors (a very recent purchase following our water pump giving up on us) went off on Friday evening & we tracked the leak to a disintegrated seal on the shower drain!! Of course the whole shower is boxed in making access impossible. We've had to take up floor covering & make an access hole in the floor, at least we now have another inspection hatch got to look for the positives! As I type the new drain has been put in & we're now waiting for the sealant to 'go off' so we can check for leaks before putting bathroom back together. Oh the trials & tribulations of narrowboating 😂 Really enjoy your vlogs so it's good to have you back

    • @MelandPaulMunro

Ah Fiona! It’s not good news to hear you’ve also got a similar problem, but it does feel good to know we’re not alone!😅😂 ALL boat bathrooms should have a hatch it would be a game changer! Good luck and I hope you’re enjoying your newly sealed shower!🙌🏻✨

Hmm, that is annoying ref the shower drain and lack of easy access.
It might be a shrewd motion to look at every other drain and waste pipe aboard and check to see if you have any joints not immediately accessible. Naturally you have considered this already.
Plus might be a notion to pour some antibac' into the bilge in case of putative nasty niffs ...
I ended up installing a vent pipe from bilges to handy roof vent and fitting a chimney to help with passive ventilation. Put a bilge fan in the trunking as well "just in case" sort of thing.
It might be venting any LPG which found its way into the bilges over the years.
Presume the shower refurbishment project will include easily removable inspection panels?
And, as others posters have mentioned, automatic bilge pumps might be worth installing. Would suggest too that cobbling in a buzzer or bell into the circuit would let you know instantly the pump(s) operates if you were asleep at the time.
I would suggest that once all the water is gone and refurb finished you mark on the bow and stern a sort of Plimsoll Line so you can keep an eye on the trim. One line for a full water tank and one when water tank is empty.
Fun Fact: for a sixty foot hull a narrow boat displaces, approximately, an inch depth of water for every ton.
This means that if you had a ton of "weight" in the bilges the boat would sit an inch lower in the water. However that is theory ... water doesn't stay "flat", it flows, and you may find the hull sits a lot deeper at one end or one side.
"Free surface area" is worth a quick Google ... if only to mesmerise your fellow drinkers down the pub and demonstrate you're a regular Archimedes as well as excellent clothes designer.
The danger in some boats is the drains through the hull are rather near the waterline. You can see the implications on this issue.
I believe the BSS info gives heights the hull fittings should sit above the water line.
(Worth remembering too that the BSS regs change all the time. For example a few folks, including me, have had to add extra pipe clamps to gas lines. The fact my boat is nigh on thirty years old and had no problems with gas lines hitherto still meant I had to secure a length of copper pipe in the has locker with rubber covered P clips. An easy job as it happened.
Ergo if you're doing a refurb anywhere near an "inspectable" gas line then bung on a few P clips ... saves you having to do the job later and waiting for the reinspection.
As you implied you live and learn ... especially if you're keen on staying afloat ...

Absolutely Ross, all the time a new thing to fix and slowly but surely no doubt we’ll make many a round of the boat upgrading and checking as we go! Never great news but always worth it.. 😎👌🏻✌🏻

Sorry to hear of the shower leaking, I’ve never heard of a shower pipe rusting, unusual indeed. No doubt plenty of resto work coming up! Showers at work?

    • @t1n4444
      @t1n4444 2 года назад +1

I gathered it was a clamping screw securing the drainer to the rest of the waste pipe trap assembly.
I speculate it could have been a replacement screw fitted by the original "plumber manque" after it had got "lost" during the initial install.
Probably fell down the plug hole and the installer couldn't be arsed to fish it out.
There again all good info and something for others to watch out for.
I don't suppose it was the only time that has happened.
