If that man has a family , his folks shouldn't let him walk the dogs alone. I maintained crossing equipment 35 yrs and almost made it to retirement before anyone got killed on my territory.
My dog would want to stop and sniff about center track. He just could not wait for two minutes, must have a very busy life to this point. That was as fast as he could go.

I couldn't count the near misses. Every one of those gives you a sick feeling & reminds you of an earlier accident in which someone died.
This the ghost of a man and his dogs. Every year on this day he appears long enough to cross ahead of a train, only barely making it past the speeding train. He disappears when the train passes. It is said that on a windy, dark night you can hear the howling of the dogs. His lonely widow was seen sitting by the tracks as she mourned the death of the dogs. She always blamed him for the incident. She didn't grieve for him. This all happened many years ago before there were warnings or lights at crossings. She decided to mark the place where he died with a marker but instead of the usual cross she just erected an "X" to mark the spot. She only put his name on it. First name was Buck and his last name was Cross. In the obituary they listed him in the normal last name, first name format. Cross, Buck . To this day the X marker at every railway crossing is called a crossbuck.
Years ago there was a sign next to the ICRR tracks in Fulton, Ky that read--The Panama Limited passes this crossing in 20 seconds, whether you're on it or not! LOL

At this same camera last month I saw a truck (like this man and his dogs, heading north) pull around the gates into the path of an eastbound Amtrak, probably this same one on a different night. People take some STUPID chances here.
There's something in the water at Chesterton. Used to pull dead bodies frequently from cars struck crossing tracks with lights flashing and gates down. Usually they also went around stopped traffic to beat the train.

I work for a railroad. I once worked a train where a guy was walking his dog on the tracks. The dog got out of the way. The guy was airlifted to a hospital with a whole bunch of issues. Not a good night.
There are a lot of areas in the country where trains do travel at fast speeds. In one video which I have watch, the train's speed had almost knock a camera tripod. The camera's owner had been able to prevent the tripod from falling down to the ground. The train was traveling above 60 miles a hour.
Clear Signal Railroad Productions The train didn’t go into emergency since it would still have not stopped at such speed and it could have caused it to derail. Anyway that guy is still a moron.

Wow! That was so stupid! I mean, he literally saved about 30 seconds of time doing that. The worst part is he risked his dogs' lives doing that and also gave the engineer a really traumatic experience. I mean, if just one thing had changed, like his dogs hesitating for even half a second, they would all me gone.
that is just shocking and very difficult to watch. for me personally being devoted to my dogs ( and cats too ) that I consider to be my only reason for living and I would give my life to any and all of them this is just a very disturbing thing to see. hopefully he has enough sense to not do this again.
