i divided a 4 bar break into 32 equal slices, making sure it would flow when reprogrammed in 8th notes (some trickery too meta to explain here). i set as a rule I wouldn't use the same hit twice in a row and try to use all of the samples (except for rolls). theres 32nd rolls, 64ths, triplet rolls, lots of velocity variation. listen to lots of early squarepusher.
