    This bike really deserves a second chance, maybe do it as a side project or give it to someone that wants to restore it back to it's full glory. Just too sad to see it get junked or parted out. 😟

      While it is always sad to see a bike (or any kind of machinery) end up in this state due to neglect, just because it can be restored is not enough reason to restore it. Consider that restoring this bike will take resources (time and money) away from potentially fixing another bike that is more deserving. It is better to save higher value bikes with easier repairs, then spending precious resources on a bike that will only sell at the low end of the market, where it is likely to be neglected all over again.

      Yeah I'll take it and ride it. Already have a lot of spare sport bike tanks.... Well my neighbor does. He'd definitely give me one.

    I had an 03 SV650 in this colour 15yrs ago... it was my pride and joy.. this makes me so sad to see this bike so neglected 😥

    That 5k engine is worth some money, and it can be used for homebuilt ATV-s so you are not down time and money at least :)

    Interesting. I really hate how certain people treat bikes. 😢 Thanks for that extensive detailed cost report. Sad thing about it is the wrong individual had possession of the bike. It reminds me how those same people caring for this bike, treat pets in the same manner. You know, those horrible stories you read about or see on television. It makes think to yourself, why or what’s the purpose to that behavior?

    Man I'd love to take it off your hands. My son wants a cool project bike and those are pretty cool when done. Plus there's a motorcycle salvage yard close to me that has all the parts I'd need.

    Good call! Not everything is worth rebuilding and you have to value your time above all.

    I totally get your choice & respect it.
    My 1987 Suzuki Cavalcade is only worth $2000-$3500 in good shape and I bought it for $1800 (Needing a carb rebuild, tires, brakes, fluids, electric work, etc)
    I'm a little ashamed to admit that I've paid over $ 3000 in parts & labour to have the bike all sorted out and looking/driving like it's almost brand new.
    I say almost because a rechrome is needed on some parts which is expensive.
    However I made a promise to the old man I bought it from to fix him up fully and come by one last time once fully fixed.
    I'm proud to say he has seen his former pride and joy ride again under new ownership.
    It made no sense but finidng a good example with low mileage (only 23k miles), fully original and nothing major wrong is hard.
    You can find them in good shape for less than I ended up paying if you wait a year or-so for them to show up.

    man just fix it, please. that's a rare bike, at least you save one SV650. it would be one less for parts 😢 I recovered one TL1000S with engine seized, bought the engine from UK, mount it, in the end in parts and man labor was almost the price I sold it. 2750€ against 1500€ the cost of the bike, 600€ for the engine, oils+filters 100€, I think it was 2400€ total. profit of 250€ but I didn't mind because in the end, I saved the bike.

    $1300? I'd cut off my pinky finger with rusty wire cutters to find one of those for that price. I've been looking at gen 2 SV650's, and with 20,000 miles they're still going for $2500+. One with 5,000 miles would be closer to $3500, especially if you put all those new parts on it.

    Aw Rob, would love to see you fix her up, Hey, Ive got an idea!, do what other bike and car repair shops do (on occasion). Setup an online raffle!, say er 50 or 100 bucks a ticket!     good decision. Selling the individual parts makes more sense. but very interesting to see how expensive the parts are traded. In addition, your work is not even included. I just don't understand why someone hasn't used such a motorcycle with so few kilometers for so long. another very good video. By the way, I use your videos to learn English, thank you for speaking so clearly. You are very easy to understand for a beginner like me.

    With this channel you've built up, you could fairly easily make it worthwhile doing, with a few videos or so you'll get a decent bit of cash back. Plus you could potentially do a patreon giveaway for people over in the US to make up the rest, something to think about maybe!

    I own this same exact bike. Going on 3 years I still love it. Nimble, pulls off the line, fully faired. Carbon exhaust and fender delete saves weight adding to the performance. Great 1st bike, fast but not deadly

    The subframe was corroded because of Galvanic Action. Two dissimilar metals in the presence of an electrolyte results in the migration of ions. In other words, a cell is formed. Rainwater contains Carbonic acid, the electrolyte.

    I bought a SV1000S which sat for 12 years in a barn, but mine wasn't in such a bad condition, 3 years ago. After rerusting, painting, replacing the fork tubes, the chain and the tyres, I enjoy riding and it gives me chill

    Tyre date of manufacture is normally a separate 4 digit number, as far as I know, currently on car and bike tyres.

      Agreed. Clean title in good running condition makes a big difference. I only use KBB for motorcycles. NADA is WAYYY too low.

    The very least one could do if he/she doesn't want to repair a bike is to keep the bike away from the elements.

    What a damn shame! My 03 SV1000S had a rust issue from ethanol blend fuel and sitting but I saved it in time. Fantastic bike! I wonder if that engine would fit in my 2022 DL650 VStrom?

    Sad to see a nice copper SV650S neglected to the weather, and the parts costing more than a resale would be worth. Now is the time Suzuki should bring this SV650F and S bike back in 2025 with the surge of middleweight motorcycles these days. They have the new 2024 GSX8 however as the main option.

    2 to 3 grand for a low mileage bike like that is not bad. It might be more than what high mileage bikes are selling for. If I was lucky enough to have that given to me I would definitely restore it and ride it

    That bike should be saved but not by a business, it’s a perfect diy job but only if it’s free. I wouldn’t be surprised if the fuel pump is fine and I’d want to boroscope the bores before I went any further. I’ve worked out that here in the uk it could be on the road with tax and mot (uk test) for about £700 if you weren’t too fussy about the cosmetics and all the hydraulic components can be rebuilt and all the work was done by the owner. That would be a result for a 5k bike that is fully service, also working on a bike really helps you bomd with it👍🏼

    Sometimes free isn't the best thing. Free (old) Rolls Royce, free BMW, free swimming pool at your new house. This bike, however, would be great for someone that wants to wrench and keep.

    I'll take it and will fix it up :) I've already rebuilt SV engines top and bottom end. Also, JT makes good sprockets but their chains are not good.
    I've never seen a good/running 2003 SV650 sell for $1300, that NADA value is LOWWWW.

    Hi i see what u r saying but you can't put a cost on installation of tires you already have a shop and you do most of the work so just absorb the cost whereas the rest of the bike parts yes its gonna be costly to bring it back but look at it as experience gained dedicate some of your off time an hour or 2 every other day to bring it up to scratch you repair bikes you have a shop that does bike repairs in the end its your bike you can fix it and give it to some lucky person like in a raffle style and it might just help you to get more work coming your way if even it may not look like you would make any money from it

    My choice of 600 bikes are CBR600RR, SV650S K2/K3 (prefer full fairings), Daytona 600 or Daytona 675R
    I'm hoping to do my full bike test in the next couple months and should have a bike at the end of the year/start of next year :3

    4:58: that pitting on the fork stanchions is TOTALLY irrelevent. it's between the top and bottom yokes, so the moving part of the fork goes nowhere near it. FOOL

    I don't know. Depends on parts availability. I've built motorcycles from scrap before. It's fun in your 20s or 30s. The main frame is important (everything else is a part), and I have no idea what things are going to be like with computerized bikes. Computers could make restoration of motorcycles a complete disaster.

    I can't understand why people in America use bikes for a few thousand miles and then dump them!
    I got an American import CB360 from 1973 with 4500 miles on the clock, original tyres, and piston rings seized into the piston.
    Nothing but trouble!

    After hot wiring my first car I realized that if you don't have the key the steering wheel will just lock on you.
    Sure the car will be running but you won't be able to take it anywhere because the steering wheel will be locked left or right.
    It's for this reason that I learned about the lock picking lawyer. Gotten really good at it too over the years.
    It's a skill at least someone in your life should have. If you've seen how much a locksmith cost to get you into your car house, you'd learn the trade.
    It's a perfect example of why you should lock your steering on your bike every time you get off of it as well. Just makes it that much harder to steal

    I even bought a xj900n from 96 because it would go for €1500-2000 if it look better.

    For all the wear and tear on the bike they can't be the original tires as the treads are not worn, 6,000 miles would wear out the rear tire!

    Just taking into consideration the new gas tank, tires and shift assembly, this bike is not worth repairing. Especially when it doesn't even have a key.
    Edit: I was thinking the bike is worth 2k, so I close.

    Does that value of 1300-ish include brand new tires, chain, sprockets etc? Probably not. I suspect however that the labour would still exceed the profit even if it got strong money. Shame though eh.

    Hello Brother, I am Amir from Pakistan. and I have been watching your video and big fan of you. I need your help to fix my bike. having very serious issue with RPMs & power. its gsxr 250r inline 4. the issue is: bike is not crossing 5K rpms, and it seem there is no power when I try to give it full throttle. I don't know whats the issue. checked everything. carboratures, air filters, valves, every thing seems ok. can you please help me with this. if you can share some tips why it happens. so I can check it.

    This is not economically viable. However, you could give it away for free or a very small price (as you can now guarantee it's a running bike). Someone may use it for parts, or restore it in his own free time as a personal project. A running bike with 5,000mi definetely deserves a second chance.

      I thought it was a 1000, witch would be worth fixing but sv650 s are common and plenty full, not worth repair. But the engine/transmission are valuable and easy to sell!

    Altho understand this from a business perspective, i have to say that getting a bike for free and fixing it up with tires, chains and sprockets, new tank (maybe get a used tank with a pump is cheapest?), new forks seals, new oils and filters, and a rebuild kit for the brake pumps/cylinders (and i would add in new brake lines as they must have gotten rot too like the tires), you're 1500 bucks into a bike thats newly serviced with many new parts ready for many miles. Comparing that to a used bike for 1300 that you know nothing about the history of, maybe it needs new tires, maybe the chain is ready for a change and so forth - your newly serviced free bike would in my opinion be a much more sensible choice, to me.
    This is just to air my opinion as i see these kinds of videos often, and i dont understand the economy thoughts all taken into consideration.
    But as i started with, as a business opportunity it may not be the right one, but then again i dont see how any projects are worth it really 🙂

    This bike needs a lot I mean a lot of work just run reliable , i think even engine needs work too like rebuilt
