I just had the problem with Gimp 2.10.28 and a G'Mic 3.3 series version.
In my case I had to upgrade Gimp to the latest (>2.10.35).
Works. Hadn't noticed the extra link at first and thought the situation was hopeless.
I have 99 problems and GIMP ain't one because I got this guy on youtube.

Thank you very much. Yesterday, I did exactly like you, but without uninstalling G'MIC, and all seemed OK, but G'MIC option had not any effect. Uninstalling G'MIC as first step, all works!

Was really hoping for a minor miracle with this solution. Last two versions of GIMP installed on my PC were affected by this series of .dll errors. (Same version of 64-bit Windows on my laptop, but never a problem.) Eventually uninstalled GIMP from my PC. But that cuts in half the amount of editing I can get done throughout the day. So I downloaded & installed the newest version of GIMP just now, and then grabbed the new G'Mic dev version. Same five errors pop up while GIMP starts & still no access to G'Mic after it's opened. 😔 But I still greatly appreciate you taking the time to share your findings.

Thanks. I ended up going back to .24 until the versions were all stable.
Please alert us when the new official stable version (not "dev" version) is released. (I know I probably don't have to ask.) Thank you! I use it so seldom, anyway, but I do want to update it when it's released. Seems a shame that they just released a new version, only to have it messed up by the new version of GIMP. Poor programmers.

Is GIMP 2.10.28 a good upgrade for GIMP 2.10.24? There are minimal fixes in GIMP 2.10.28 and the G'MIC plugin shows the DLL error. Please tell which version should I use?

I wanted to install G'MIC for my GIMP, but when I press "latest dev" on the download-side, I get the info "Not Found
- The requested URL was not found on this server." :-(
Does not currently work..: "Could not execute plug-in "gmic_gimp_qt.exe" because GIMP is using an older version of the plug-in protocol" + second popup window saying "unspecified fatal error".
In Linux version works very well, no problem.

The latest dev doesn't work for me. But it works with Krita until its sorted. Not a valid Win32 application.

I installed GIMP version 2.10.28 today only
I followed this step-y-step and got the same error code--Could not execute plug-in "gmic_gimp_qt.exe"
because GIMP is using an older version of the plug-in protocol
I tried the zip file and it worked!
G'mic DOES NOT work AT ALL with flatpak on Linux.
You will need the ubuntu handbook ppa or otherwise for your Linux os. Please note, the ppa is updated slightly slower than flatpak but will guarantee a fully working g'mic and script-fu.
Gimp are very cagey around support for g'mic. I'm thinking we'll see its own software and g'mic phased out

@@realrobbyrob which version of Linux are you on? Both mint and ubuntu 20.04 are not supporting gmic

For Linux?
As a relatively casual Gimp user I indulge in not updating my 2.10.22 version. Die hard g'mic power users with .28, who can live without the difference in features between .22 and .28, could downgrade for the sake of workable stability untill g'mic is updated. Possibly an option for those who choose to heed the warning about the development release version. Gimp offers previous versions in their download section.

I guess I've been lucky. I have never seen this dll issue when I upgraded to Gimp 2.10.28 and stable version G'Mic 2.9.9.
