I definitely prefer analog cameras because with analog cameras, I can get a lot more depth, details and tonal range. B&W film rolls are my favorite. The prints are fabulous and the viewer can notice a deeper intensity of reality.
I like my Vero Ennagon Lens on my Franka Solida 1. Great renderings at all field depths, sharp when and where you need it to be sharp, soft enough on the edges to focus your attention on the subject.
I love watching your IG. I need a mint and rare! Oh when? I love both but came of age in analog, yet speed and ease in digital with a Leica does feel special...never had a dark room...Thx for all you do!
Thanks for a very informative video. I recently purchased a Leica iiig from your shop. I rediscovered my joy of shooting analog. No batteries, no autofocus, no electronics, no complicated menus. Just pure photography and pure fun!
good to see you here! I like what you are doing in Vienna :) keep it up. I shoot mirrorless Sony A7CR and Leica SL2 and use a bunch of old lenses, FED, Voigtlander, Canon, Tair and so on
my question is: best value Leica M over a lifetime including cost of film and repairs. I would assume a digital M but I am a little worried about repairs on those too
Best value in terms of holding its value? Leica M3 / M6. Best value in terms of outcome of images vs. costs of film and development. Leica M digital. But we always recommend all-mechanical film cameras.
I love analog photography because it feels very real to me to produce a negative image that can be printed on paper and be a real tangible thing. Not just 1s and 0s on a computer screen.
I feel like digital cameras can do so much more than capturing beautiful pictures while also being able to record videos while acting like a celebrity 😎
Thanks a lot for this very informative Video. Analog photography slows down and You take pictures more deliberate and composition more thoughtful. It#s a lot of compassion to use the seldom Nationen but high end analog Camera Contax G2
Great video. I love analogue cameras and analog photography. The beauty of analogue photography is that you almost are forced to study the techniques. You become much more aware of what you are doing. That is so different from work with digital cameras where you can take an endless number of images with different settings hoping to get that image which satisfies you.
Love the nostalgia of film camera to slow down and for special occasions. It’s a trip down memory lane for me rather than being trendy as I’m older and remember using them way before digital camera was invented. But prefer digital camera for daily use and cost savings without having to process film.
Hi Joe, I bought a used M4-P from you guys in January and it is superb in every way, I would recommend your store to anyone looking for a used Leica film camera
From a repair perspective I really dont like the Leica M series as they are so precise the error margin is similarly low(literally 0mms for the first curtain when assembling it). The positive side is that one can get spare parts brand new (still dont know how to but I know its possible). The hype I think is worth it from a user perspective but when compared to other analog cameras I think only if you are more professional and your tools matter. The advantage is that you have a camera that doesnt lose value (actually gain value) and can be repaired with certainty. This I cannot say for any other analog camera as finding spares gets harder and harder. My favorite camera right now is Retina IIIC because it is on par with Leica Ms with the disadvantage of a fixed lens (lets be honest nobody actually uses the 35 and 80). Thanks for the great video :)
Hi Baris, many thanis. I agree with you on some points. But that also speaks for a Leica camera, precision. Parts can be found or, in some cases, can be made.
Thanks for all the informative videos, Jo. I recently discovered your channel and enjoy them all. I like both digital and analog but I too love my 35 Summicron 8 element for both.
Hi, I take photos with both digital and analog cameras, but I prefer the analog one, it simply generates a different state of mind, requires discipline and is always a challenge for me. 🤘🤘
Great information. I love both analogue and digital camera but my first preference would be analogue cameras. By using different analogue cameras, I am continuously challenged to master them. Each old camera has its own peculiarities and specific features. It stimulates the learning process. You need to be acknowledgeable to be able to capture a good photograph with old devices.
Thanks for the info. I love being able to slow down and really think before pressing the shutter instead of the run and gun style, making me connect better with the subjects and places I'm shooting
I like film cameras, especially my Contax 159. I regularly use vintage lenses on digital cameras. I will come by again in your shop soon. Thanks for the Q&A video.
I like both, digital and analogue, but right now analogue photography a little bit more since it’s my newest passion (and honestly it makes more fun) 🔥📷
My favourite Lens is the Summicron 5cm Rigid V1. When I bought it, the front element was badly damaged by fungus. I sent it for re-coating to Görlitz, Deutschland. And It's now fully restored. I love the images it creates.
I hate the term “analogue” having taken on the meaning of “anything not digital” from about 1947 onwards; originally it sort of made sense in its original context of sliderules, but hasn’t made sense since. I love film photography, without using any tools other than a light meter, where the image that is captured is all to do with my choices - for better or for worse. It’s the result of my mood, my thoughts, my eye. It could be me being “decisive” in that absolute second, or it could be me being intentional - for hours or weeks! - digital “oh this camera didn’t capture the picture the way I wanted it to, if I had the newer lens/camera/firmware” - film “yeah I didn’t get that quite right, now I think about it I should have used an ND, OR not wasted that shot - but it was a great day out anyway” I find working with film and fully manual cameras is very much about “working within real boundaries, getting the most out of those intersections” whereas for many folk digital is “wishing the camera was better or someone has given me better presets”
Hi, my absolute favorite is my Leica M6 with the 8 Elements 35mm Summicron and the 50mm Summicron V4 :) I just love the feeling of the Leica and the Sounds it makes.
Actually I don’t have any digital camera, only analog ones as I prefer the most quiet pace and limitation you have in terms of photos numbers per roll.
I have both analog and digital cameras, the process and the outcome is different. I'd say analog photography is like vinyl music versus digital music. I love vinyl, I love analog photography.
Hi Jo, I prefer using a digital camera. The cost of film and the time it takes to develop is prohibitive, I enjoy using a 35mm Summilux pre asph v2 very much. It’s fast, full of character and tiny. Cheers.
One's favorite lens of course depends on the subjects being photographed. My favorite of all times is the 50 ~ 300mm f4.5 ED Zoom-Nikkor. I was doing an extensive amount of track and field photography. This zoom was perfect for these subjects. I grew to love the lens. There are cameras I could never get along with and are thus overrated for me - Alpa, Hasselblad and Contarex. For others these are perfect cameras. I now use digital 99%, but I am working to master a 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 Graflex Model B.
Great to jump into the world of Q&A on youtube. I love analog cameras and I already have a couple of them and use it as well 🙂. They bring me back to ground. Slowing down and analysing the scene very much longer compared to digital quick shots. Hope to see more such videos. Thx
Good answers Jo. My favourite camera/lens combo is my 1970 Leica M4 (chrome) with my trusty 28mm Elmarit (V3) Canada. I love the classic nature of the M4 and I really like the slightly vintage but high quality character rendering of this lens. By the way, I have tried the 35mm Summicron 8-element lens before (borrowed from my friend), It's very unique and fun to use with that crazy, cool flare!
Interesting video. I love film cameras for their styling and simplicity but digital cameras with vintage lens can offer the best of both worlds. favorite lens: voigtlander Nokton 35m f/1.4.
Great video! I like both - that's why I like to shoot with my Leicas so I can switch lenses from analog to digital! :-) Keep up the cool work @Jo Geier!
Digital cameras give you instant feedback. Digital cameras have video and audio built into the body. Digital cameras don’t require the image to be printed in order to see the image. With mirrorless cameras you can preview what the image will look like prior to pushing the shutter. Bad images can be deleted on the spot with a digital body. Overrated compared to co$t? Once I enquired about a possible trade-in of my Summicron-M 28mm ASPH v2, in exchange for some other lens....they offered me 900 EUR :D yes, right, 9 hundred. I laughed and walked out the door and would never ever enter that store again.
Dr. Mr./Ms./Mrs. Kubowich, every opinion counts, no problem with the. Used to get sucked into getting more and more lens. Now I seem to prefer small compact lens to keep the M set up compact.
