Hello there! I’m panorama-photo-studio-guy (18:35). Just now diving fully into music production after tinkering with it as a hobby for a while. I’m a software engineer by trade, but putting that studio together still took years of slowly purchasing stuff. It definitely isn’t necessary, a pair of good headphones can be all you need!
The science of room acoustics was just interesting to me, and so learning how to treat a room myself was a fun project. I learned a lot! I filmed the process of putting the ceiling treatment in, and hope to have a video about it out sometime soon!

4:04 for those wondering, this is actually a headphone amp (by the look of it a shiit jotunheim or something similar). Headphone amps are usually used to better drive high impedance headphones like those beyerdynamic dt 990 pros that are also in the pic.
i could never decide on a pair of cans like that for producing let alone listening lol. i have recently gone into the iem realm myself, and rely on ole faithful sony mdr studio headphones for a flat response when dicking around in a daw. i do run it through an smsl dac/amp, and replaced the pads with some velour? ones and I really am not privy enough to know what I am missing.

@smatchimo645 thing is I get that... especially the 990s are super bright in the highs and not neutral enough for mixing... open back headphones rule tho and if you haven't tried it I can only recommend that experience. I find that most open back cans I've tried tend to image better and be less fatiguing over time. For comfort and isolation I'm more of an iem guy as well although I always distrust the multi-driver ones (I worry about crossover distortion and phasing issues)
I gotta say, I have been using a dining room chair as my computer chair for like 10 years and honestly it’s one of the best chairs I have ever had. It’s a very heavy chair without a coushin and a very nice back to it that makes it surprisingly comfy to sit on.

Hold up - the idea of making music in FL Studio without listening to it first is intriguing. Just hoping it sounds like you think it will, an entire song, and THEN listening to it.
That’s what another producer called Bishu does, to some extent. He calls them “Deaf Jams” where he can’t hear his DAW and twitch chat has to guide him.

My setup consists of a laptop that sits on top of the box it came in on my bed. And headphones that speak in a Chinese accent when I turn it on.
