As an Ableton Live user, watching people get very confused with it is quite amusing
I felt like him about 6 years ago when I just started with Ableton. But now it is really entertaining to see how FL logic doesn't allow him to percept different mechanisms of dealing with a DAW.
@@brussbenner957Yeah that is very interesting to see.

8:56 CTRL+Y is literally the default Windows redo key for anyone wondering
This is true, but a lot of programs still insist on doing something different, like Blender for instance uses CTRL + Shift + Z to undo. That's a very common combo for redoing an action. MacOS uses Command Shift Z for redo for instance which is basically the same thing.
no it's not lmao it's ctrl + z
@@zaketenyu1932 CTRL Z is undo dingus. CTRL Y is redo
@@thunderbolt10031 kinda funny in FL ctrl Z is both undo and redo, so fun! Oh, what's that, you want to press ctrl Z again to go further back, why that's redo of course, to undo multiple things is ctrl alt z, so fun.

As an Abelton user, The scroll bar is absolutely Horrible, you describing it as feeling like it's on an ice rink is way to accurate, I never use it because everytime I do I get flung into another dimension.
Yeah it's all about shift and ctrl scroll. That should be the first thing mentioned in any tutorial.
that thing at the top of the arrangement view is so basically useless, I couldn't agree more
Are you kidding me? Just program your own Max for Live plugin for smooth scrolling, it's so easy, then make one for zooming, and copy pasting and...
wait its literally better than fl's, hello?
2:34 what you showed is totally possible in the cheap version of ableton. Audio slicing is an automatic transient detection system that will separate your sample in segments. I've never used this feature tbh
I might add that buying this version if you don't have the money for the standard edition is totally worth it. The only notable downsides are :
-16 tracks only, but with the infinite grouping system in each track you can have all your fx and drums in 1 track, and all your synth in 1 track too. And if you still need more, you can always create another project file!
- you will have a small portion of ableton's stock plugins, which is a bit disapointing because you won't have access to a lot of godlike plugins that come with the other versions of Ableton. But honestly you can find free 3rd party plugins that will do the job
@@Fascry_personally i think ableton is only worht it for the plugins, there are other, cheaper daws that are fully featured like reaper and the rest of the plugins u need u can get online for free

better yet, Live Enhancement Suite is free

Ctrl Z/Y is the standard undo/redo across windows though. For scrolling you gotta learn shift scroll for horizontal and ctrl scroll for in out, I struggled with dragging the little window for ages before I figured that out. Navigating becomes a breeze instead of a chore.
1:30 you're so M O I S T my guy

Thanks for trying Ableton so I dont have to
Fl is horrible daw, Ableton is much better
Hey Nate, as a Reason user im still waiting for ytbers to try it out and find out just how unruly the learning curve is with the rack. Btw if you do wanna try it out, the intro versions are like $70 or $80 so theyre not that expensive and you get most of the devices with a limit of 16 tracks. Still a lot you can do tho if you use combinators to use several devices with one track. Pretty much everything can be automated by alt clicking it. Oh yeah and you can use your ableton trial with reason because reason can directly link with ableton if you let it.
Love your content as always tho, I'm not the hugest fan of your style of music but your reaction to ableton features were hilarious and your humour is golden.
dude this is so refreshing, i was using FL for like 10 years then had to switch over to ableton cuz the producer i was working with forced me to and nothing made me angrier than the midi difference, FL midi game is too good
CTRL-Y is the universal Windows shortcut for Redo. Mac-oriented apps use CTRL-Shift-Z. FL uses CTRL-Alt-Z for some reason.
Remember that FL had a weird undoing system in the past too. They improved it a lot a couple of years ago.
i havent found a producer i actually enjoy watching in so long bro. i really fw this dude lmao
wait that ID at the end is nuts PLEASE RELEASE

ruclips.net/video/7PFRyONURSo/видео.html
It has a traditional fader on session view. Though in my 6 years of Ableton I have never wanted to adjust the master volume. But the differences between session and arrangement views are one of my biggest gripes with Ableton. For example you can only see numbered meters in session view, not arrangement. So if you're working in arrangement and want to know the level of something, you need to tab over to session and stop and play to get that reading. Especially awful if you're trying to level match different things.
6:27 how many producers here play this same exact drum pattern when testing out samples
I feel like I'm about to make a spreadsheet looking at that thing.
Thank you editor. you saved my life with that fucking text.
You're welcome! When I first started producing I had bought that version not knowing and I was severely disappointed, upgraded to the Producer Edition very quickly. I'd rather people not go through that pain cycle like I did. It's weird because I don't even see many people talking about it unless you look up certain RUclips videos detailing all the versions.
Just wanted to say... that FLATLINE remix goes STOOPID hard
Everybody talks about how ableton is so complicated but all my friends try to teach me FL and its so complicated T_T
6:28 sound exactly like the beginning of kerksene lmfao
Hi! Ableton user for 13 years here. Sorry you don't like the program! But, if there is anyone else confused by the same things, this feels like a good opportunity to have the explanations all in one place.
Here is a list of the questions and my answers:
7:00 - You have to click off of the sample to stop it from replaying constantly. You can click off in arrangement view or select a new file or folder in the browser on the left.
7:34 - "Why does it sound worse when I drag it in?" Typically the first thing I do when I load a sample, especially a drum sample, I have to adjust the Fades. You have to disable automation view (Press "A"; if this doesn't do it, press "M" first to turn off your Keyboard Midi input). Then, hover over the sample. You should see some points and a tiny slope. If you can't see them, zoom in to the sample. Drag the top left point next to the waveform all the way to the left to preserve the transients. You see him dragging the sliders at 14:15 if you need to see what I'm talking about.
9:30 - "Don't I only get a certain amount of audio tracks?" In the demo version I'm not sure, but as far as I'm aware you have infinite audio tracks.
10:40 - "How do I add an EQ to this?"
If you have the sample open, you will need to switch to the effects view. In the bottom right of the screen with the sample or track selected, you'll see a long window. You have to click on this to open the effects chain. In the browser on the left, you'll see "Audio Effects" and "Plug-ins". For EQ 8, seeing as it's an Ableton stock plugin, it will be in Audio Effects. If you want to use imported VSTs, you'll select "Plugins". Ableton is kind of dumb with this compared to, like, Reaper for example, because you can only have one plugins folder. Instead of clicking and dragging, you can select your audio track and then double click the effect you want in the browser
12:30 - "How do I open the piano roll?"
In a Midi track (create one using CTRL+SHIFT+T, "T" for "track"), highlight the section you want to add a midi clip to. Then, press CTRL+SHIFT+M for "Midi". Double click on the bar in the section you've inserted a midi clip into.
12:53 - This one wasn't a question, but for ease of navigability (these apply to piano roll and arrangement view):
SHIFT+Scroll - Move from side to side
CTRL + Scroll - Horizontal zoom
ALT + Scroll - Vertical zoom, makes notes or tracks longer
13:00 - "Why did this D key stop working?"
You may have moved the midi note or play tracker slightly before the beginning of the midi clip. He figures this out at 15:45ish
15:00 - The question wasn't asked, but it is important to note: If you press C or V, you will lower or aise your velocity respectively. Not super important for the serum patch you had because you had nothing set to velocity, but if you were wondering about the discrepency between the color of this note and the color of the note in a previous midi track, that would be the issue.
15:22 - "Why is there not a scroll bar?"
For the same functionality, you'll scroll using the section at the top of the piano roll right underneath where you drag to make resize the window. You'll see the beat markers (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 2.1, and so on); you will need to click and drag these to scroll with your mouse and no keyboard. It's in the same location as the one shown in FL after this, but it is just the beat markers instead of an actual functional GUI of a scroll bar itself. Alternatively, you can drag with a window in the bottom right underneath the piano roll.
17:43 - "What the f- is loop mode?"
You'll find the "Loop" setting in your piano roll to the left in the "clip" settings. If I recall correctly, having this on will loop the clip when you extend it in arrangement view; but if you turn it off, it will simply make the midi clip longer.
18:45 - Some notes on automation in Ableton
Press A to toggle Automation mode. When it is on, you will see parameters on the right underneath the title of your audio track. You can select the effect or instrument you are wanting to automate on the top bar and the parameters within those plugins on the bottom. At the bottom right of the selected track, you will see a "+" sign. If you click this, it will create a new lane showing the parameters you are automating. You can press B to enter Pencil Mode to draw automation. If you do not want it to snap to the grid, you can hold down ALT while you click and drag to design your automation fluently. If there is a shape you want, you can highlight the section in the arrangement view that you would like to automate, right click and select one of the shapes at the bottom of the popup menu. If you want to raise or lower a section, you can highlight that section and drag the line up or down. This will create four new points making a "square" shape.

Wait a minute.... Nate is a Coug?? We went to school together?!
This explains why he's so pale, spent too long in the Wazzu.
PS: Nate, we have mutual connections on LinkedIn.
If you ever do this again, hold shift and scroll, that'll let you move horizontally within arrangement view. Hold ctrl and scroll and that zooms. Also, for sidechaining, grab a compressor, drop it on the track you wanna sidechain, then click the arrow next to the orange button (that's basically an on/off button), click sidechain, then select the track you wanna sidechain using, like drums. I also recommend looking around the demo track (In The Rain by ninajirachi, you're welcome)

it is very subjective, it seems like a lot of people just want to have the "mine is betteR" mentality. i have ableton lite, but i havent been able to figure it out yet. hopefully ill be able to get as fluid and dynamic with it as i am with fl studio. i know pretty much everything in fl studio and can do anything in that daw, if i can manage to get that way with other daws, that would be the dream.
