@@linkly9272 Hehe that's a very happy accident! 'Faen' means devil and is a swearword in Norwegian! It's used like 'fuck' so should be translated as such, but I guess google translate is too sanitized.
@Moopie580I wasn’t quite sure how to translate that part. I could have said “Faen ta deg!!” But given the context, kids dont really say that in a playful manner nowadays. A close contender was “Morrapuler!” But that didn’t sit right either. Plenty of kids say fuck you or “Føkk you” so i went with that.
@@edgytrash612 Yes, and thats completely understandable! I was just correcting their assumption that it simply sounded the same in both Norwegian and English when in reality its due to the fact that it is untranslated
Getting back into learning Norwegian and getting back into watching Jerma within the same week is doing amazing things for my algorithm and I'm so excited this was one of those perfect videos for that
It _is_ Norwegian, but a specific dialect. I've never been great at knowing exactly where a given dialect is from though. This one weirdly sounds like it has Danish influences? Anyway, it would be kinda interesting to see this in other dialects, like Trøndersk, Bergensk, Nordlænding, Totning, just regular Bokmål, or whatever else.
@edgytrash612 I mean, in all technicality, Bokmål (the spoken version) is just as much a dialect as any other. Just because we made it the default doesn't mean it's no longer a dialect. That's like saying standard Amercian English "has no accent" as for the part about the Danish undertones, you gotta admit that's true
@ bokmål is strictly a written language, you must be thinking of the dialects commonly referred to as østlandsk. What is considered «Standard Norwegian» is mostly oslo dialect.

I'm sorry but you really can't appreciate the cultural context unless you watch the subbed version.
I watch the subbed version with pages upon pages of notes from the author (chat).
