She is a great ambassador for music and youth!
What a classy young lady. So confident in her abilities to express herself without the use of an interpreter, determined to do it on her own. Way to go Yoyoka!
she is raised by wonderful parents :)
I'm so proud of this girl, her drumming is fantastic and to overcome the challenges of moving to a new country has to be admired. I respect her and the talented Soma family.
I’ve watched many drummers in my 57 years including seeing Neil Peart play live many times.
She may very well be the most talented drummer alive today. Which is amazing considering she’ll likely only get better - assuming that’s even possible.
Rhythm, timing, wrist speed, stick control, overall vibe, syncopation - you name it - she’s got it.
Unreal talent.
Yoyoka's level is absolutely impressive, an excellent interview too, very solemn and appropriate to the occasion. congratulations
Well done YOYOKA, very brave of you to do this in English. Fabulous improv solo, to bad the studio didn’t allow the sound setup you wanted.
Yes, She is so much better. Patronizing her for cripes sake. Here use these...kid.
I didn't catch that. Maybe I missed something earlier... Was there some difference or compromise in the setup?
@@goldreverre in the Patreon Zoom call with YOYOKA last night she said they brought 5 mics to the TV station but were not allowed to use them so she was dissatisfied with the sound .
Very impressed with your advancement in English Yoyoka! So brave to do an interview in a language you are a learner of!!!!
Love your work little sister!!
So much talent obtained at such a young life. Proud to have her and her family here in the states!
Hooray for Yoyoka. We are glad to have you here!! Your English is getting better every day- such a smart young lady 😊👏👏👏
Your English is improving rapidly. That was a great message to young people starting out in music!
That news studio has NEVER rocked as hard as it did when you played your drum solo!! Great job Yoyoka!! Very impressed with your interview without a translator 👍
Most people have trouble going up in front of the class and trying to speak in a language they are not fluent in. The courage and self confidence displayed here is stunning and inspiring.
What a special person!
よよかちゃん、通訳をいれない度胸‼️余裕のドラミング‼️
確実に世界へ羽ばたき始めていますね👍✨
Your English is getting much better. Such a sweet girl.
Representing the drumming community with true class.
Great reaction from Yoyoka when the compression ring fell, Mistakes happen live, just gotta move on and keep going She had to improvise while she was improvising. Show's how great she is.
@Not Expat Joe Thanks Joe. I am a guitar player, so I don't know. I just guessed. Good luck to ya buddy. Thanks for the info.
P.S. I just love watching her play. and of course, The whole family.
Dampening ring. I like em on a snare because it being unattached to head it actually lifts up evercsi slighty, so you get the open sound, then quickly falls back down to dampen excess ring / overtones. A floor Tom can have a dampener too, but it is like a flap, that lifts when drum is struck, then falls back down to shorten note, ring, overtones. Almost all subjective stuff and depends on context, kit, room, stlye, taste...
Wow! Looks like you’re learning English just as fast as you learned the drums.
Yoyokaちゃんくらい若い頃から英語を身に付けておけば、世界中回ってグローバルに活動出来ますね🤗🌎️🌍️
Yes!!! Keep rocking those drums Yoyoka!!!!!
I'd bet anything that John Bonham is smiling at your playing!!!
KRON4 NEWS has no idea that's true! He really does! John Bonham is smiling and loves her.
This is originally the Purdie Shuffle.
ruclips.net/video/sj6o4cxWgl8/видео.html
And no surprise at all that Bernard ruclips.net/video/sj6o4cxWgl8/видео.html, John Bonham, and Yoyoka each and all are solidly known for it now.
Love the drum solo, love the drum set - you absolutely killed it. Excellent tone, originality and genuine rock vibe. Just when I thought you couldn't get any better, you're actually showing more feel and strength/power 💪 Keep on rocking 🥁 🎶
Awesome!!! Can't believe I watched this girl when she was 9 years old. Geez that sounds weird lol. Very proud of her!!
This young lady brings so much joy to my heart. I hope nothing but the best for her and her family.
Wonderful job Yoyo! So great to hear you doing this interview in English. I would bet that a year from now you will be speaking English like a native. The improv was great, but I knew you'd be limited to showing a snippet of your talent on a commercial news broadcast. I do appreciate that they gave you a nice introduction and some playing time. Btw, you look beautiful and very grown up. Wishing you and your family the best of everything in our crazy USA!
Can you imagine you are about to perform on TV. You're 13. And you are being interviewed in Japanese in Japan. And you absolutely nail it like a boss!!! Thank you Yoyoka for always coming thru brilliantly!
Out of all the places in the world she could have gone she's come to the Bay Area? We're honored by her and her families choice. Best of luck Yoyoka!
YOU were AWESOME.!! Excellent choice of fills for your solo and it was timed perfectly.....so that you leave them wanting more and more. Even the ring falling due to gravitational forces beyond your control didn't slow you down. Well, YOU slowed you down. Again...perfect timing. Also, your English was great. Ok, so you have an accent, but I don't know too many people that can speak two languages AND play drums so impeccably at your age either. Fear not, it will all come together soon enough. YOYOKA, you never disappoint, nor cease to amaze.
Domo arigato. どうもありがとう
She has a phenomenal talent. How brave taking on an interview this soon after moving here. Having visited Asia many times I understand how different our languages are from each other. Good for her doing an interview, I certainly wouldn’t. She’s amazing.
As soon as she put her buds in we got the Yoyoka smile and the prodigy took over.
This girl has got that laid back feel nailed. Can't wait to hear her original material. Love the Purdy/Bonham shuffle at the end!!😎
Great job with your interview/performance! You are doing so awesome and seem to be thriving here in the US. You’ll be popular nationwide in no time, just keep pushing ahead and challenging yourself. Your English is getting very good too! Been following you for years, you make your fans proud 👍
Yoyoka is Awesome! She said she would love to work with famous people.
Guess what! They know! Yoyoka is very welcome. It could be that Sina-Drums is a big Fan too!
Great job YOYOKA! When you announced that you were doing improv, I was hoping that you were going to do your original tune "Sparkling", but after that performance, you truly made the correct decision. You get better every week! Not sure how that's even possible, but you prove me wrong EVERY WEEK! Your speed and accuracy is amazing! Your English IS GETTING BETTER! Nice to see you doing the interview in English, you did very well! Like to see you using English, not because it is better, but I think it will just help you adapt to the U.S. and people will want to support you more, if they understand what you say. I know you still love Japan, and always will! You are a true Professional!
I liked the practice not so much comment!
The speed of her hands is really out of the ordinary, I'm blown away.
Hi Glen!
@@davidmacphee3549 Hey David!
@@Glen.Black. 😁😄
With the kit not mic'd up at all in that studio, it still sounds so bizarrely amazing. The kick drum at times sounds like a pure pressure wave.
It was sad they did not let her mic up her kit, but still she showed she was no joke and her school will elevate her to the highest level in no time
Yes, great job in your English! Your drum solo was awesome!🥁💪 Also happy to see you living in the bay area Oakland California. I live 40 miles away in Sunnyvale California. That gives me a chance to See you in person preforming locally someday.!💯👌💪🐶❤️
Yoyoka, it's impressive how quickly you're learning English. It's great to see you in the United States.
Your English is getting better and better. And your drumming is just... wow. I'm so glad the rest of the world is starting to catch on to Yoyoka's magic!
I love the little Zep pieces she throws in. It's a nice tribute. Incredible. Never stop!
Honestly, even though her English speaking ability is not yet on par with her drum skills and Japanese language speaking ability, her English speaking progression is evident far above what I expected. Imagine going to a country where not only the language is different, but they don't even use the same symbols to represent words. To me, it is mind boggling, but Yoyoka never lets a challenge discourage her, she just goes forward, no matter the obstacle.
They use *roman* letters a lot. Look up the word kaze and your search engine will tell you it means "wind."
she's picked up "like" off her californian friends very quickly.
If her English language skills were as good as her drumming, she would be Shakespeare
You’re learning so fast. I’m overwhelmed by your ability to adapt and thrive. Your parents, your brother and yourself should be VERY proud at what you’ve all accomplished and experienced. It’s all been an absolutely beautiful ride watching this all unfold over the last few very challenging years.
Yoyoka is badass, I had no idea she was a girl! Her cover of Deep Purple at 12 was badass.
It's great to hear Yoyoka's English improving so much, and to see her getting the recognition she deserves. We are priviledged to be witnessing the birth of a rock legend. Cheers from the UK.
God bless you, Yoyoka. I can remember you as a little girl drumming like John Bonham. You have grown up in front of our eyes, and your English has really come along. Thanks to KRON 4 for spotlighting you. Good luck, Yoyoka .Your future is unlimited .
Congratulations Yoyoka on your move to the United States 🇺🇸, You are an inspiration to all young people
I just watched this on their website. You did a great job Yoyoka! I am sure it was a challenge because she didn't slow down her questions at all, but you followed her really well!
That was great advice to keep challenging yourself! You taught me that a couple years ago through your videos and it changed my life. Thank you for continuing to inspire us!
THAT WAS A REALLY GREAT SOLO 👍🏻
AND YES YOUR ENGLISH IS GETTING BETTER. THUMBS UP 👍🏻 YOYOKA
You're doing great, I'm so impressed by your drumming and english.
You Go Girl
Damn, I am so happy for her. She is a joy to watch and even more impressive to listen to. Looking forward to seeing her live one day. ☮💜
You did GREAT! Your English is really good, and you learned it so fast! Drumming is is awesome as always!
She is an amazingly talented human being! It’s very encouraging to hear her speak her mind in a foreign tongue and play so incredibly well! Tony Williams would be proud of her!
She is a class act I never heard her speak before . Don’t know how long she has been in The United States but her English is very good . Wish her and her family nothing but the best . And yes you will be playing a lot of venues with many musicians !!!!!!!!
Well done Yoyoka, your English is getting better all the time!
Absolutely awesome! I've been watching Yoyoka for years on her RUclips channel, and she just continues to improve. Welcome to the USA!!!
Your English is getting great! Living in America now is definitely going to help you learn even faster
Amazing young lady and with the help of her wonderful family she is going to live a great life!
your English has improved, Good job, Yoyo
followed Yoyoka since the "early days" and she's great💜☮
Awesome! So happy for you.
That was indeed very brave of you to do an interview in English. Even though you struggled a bit you pushed through it like the champ you are!
She's so wonderful!
You are going to do many great things in your life Yoyoka. Music is just the start! Congrats on your new life with your family in Oakland and the US.
Love this interview and performance is over the top! (of coursem it's Yoyoka!♥
Yoyoka Kills it whatever she tackles...her cover of Stings Seven Days by legendary Vinni Calutti is penomanual in 5-4 time and Poly Rhythms...it's next level.
Absolutely love her drumming. Really cool those Jazz beats she throwing in.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 yay Yoyoka, you did great with your English. That's funny , when the host made the comment lots of practice, no not really . Lol
you are becoming even more than i imagined you would be. listen to your heart and continue to have fun. wishing many blessings for you and your family.
I must say I love the sound of that yellow snare drum. Rock on, Yoyoka.
Your English has gotten SO good Yoyoka! So happy for you! Keep going!
Guitar strings break, drum sticks break, and now we have a new one. She's a total pro. Of course when she gets a big opportunity on the big stage, the unexpected comes along and she got her stick under that dampening ring but she sucked it up and blew right through it like a champ. It actually motivated and focused her....oh yeah fate?...well I'll show you! She's the best and getting bester every day...along with her English.
I detected some Bonham and Buddy Rich in that solo, great performance!
I believe Yoyoka will bring back rock ‘n’ roll, which is Surely needed in the world
She knows Rock. You betcha!
I was bummed out for a long time after Neil Peart passed away. She has given me hope for the future of rock.
@@racebiketuner They both Love Rush. That is, Yoyoka and Sina. They're both excellent at performing Rush songs flawlessly it sounds. Or at least a fantastic job of it.
It seems funny to me. Rush was putting out their best, many decades ago and only now are really well known Worldwide.
The press in the day said only Boys like Rush.
Geddy Lee said he had to sing high notes because the Music was mostly low notes.
More Girls than Boys love Rush now, I think.
'Conk CONK" okay. That's not fair. Ouch!
Anyway, Rush was a minor band for awhile, Just 3 ugly guys living in Toronto with me here, somewhere.
Girls groove on the low notes now. Harleys are hard to find.
We? I liked the High notes of my BLUE '72 Kawasaki H2 and the DEEP notes too!
@@racebiketuner Yoyoka seemed really dressed down don't you think? What was that she wore? Who put all the drums up backwards, a bunch of old Harley Riders with an old, grudge against 'Rice Burners?
We've known darn well Yoyoka is a true WorldStar. Keep things in perspective here.
Yoyoka has been a magical athlete since she was an 8 year old. We all saw it. We all know that she is, and that's true. Yoyoka is certainly not dumpy or fat. She will soon grow into an extremely well formed, athletic, Asian woman. Flawless figure.
Even now, a Rock legend and could easily kick the crap out of any boy that would dare to threaten her. A little Bruise Lee in fact.
We all joked about her POWER. She does a heavy physical workout every day on her drums, and she is as fit as a fiddle.
She has powerful strong legs and arms for her young age age and mind-blowing reflex's. She could take a bad boy out with only one finger long before he knew what hit him.
There is another very little girl that really smiles as well as she plays like Yoyoka always did.
Cut and paste this
"Ellenplaysbass"
Genius Children! Yes. They all know each other and have jammed at least virtually, all on, RUclips free! Just look.
Omg..I'm so happy Yoyoka came to Oakland! Yay yarea!!❤
Your drumming has always been like candy for my ears Yoyoka-sensei! 🥁🍬
I love the way you powered through this interview fearlessly, even as the English language fought back without mercy! 💗💓
Guauuuu❤Yoyoka amazing
Welcome to North America
Fabuloso Yoyoka ,Bienvenida a Norte América
👍🇨🇦🇨🇴🙂🤘👍
Born to be a Rocker! We're so lucky she found her love of music so early, and we can all watch her progress into a world class talent.
Well done Yoyoka!
シンバルベル部とキックとフロアタムのコンビネーションが和太鼓みたいでカッコイイ👍👍👍
それにしても凄いキック😍
Yay Yoyoka-chan! 頑張れ‼️ Your English is doing great!! Drumming, as always, amazing!!
もうヒアリングはバッチリにすぐ💪
音楽と英語は繋がってるから話すのも訳なくすぐ上達します😊
Awesome drum solo as well showcasing so many different skills! 🤯
She's a treasure. I've been watching her videos since she was eight. So lucky that she now lives in the Bay Area, in Oakland, and can't wait for her to sit in with some bands here. She practiced a lot, don't kid yourself. lol
普通に英語でインタビュー受けてるスゲ〜❣️
Love it! No fear! Your english is improving big time! 🤙🏼
Beautiful, professional and humble. I love her, I hope she gets all the support and training she needs here in the US. Big Props.
Well said!
Nice job Yoyoka, everyday you keep impressing me. Really doing the interview in English leaves me speechless but in fact should we be impressed? And what a drum solo oufffff.
"Women's History Month" Best Choice Awards deserved.
Did you know that Yoyoka was awarded with an Official Honorary "Professor of Music" Degree in Japan?
Well actually the position was visiting professor. It is a pretty free college but I think she talked about learning ~ great interview with the president of the university.
When is Men's History Month?
OAKLAND... The Bay Area Loves you Yoyoka... Welcome to The Soma Family!!!

OMG!! So happy Yoyoka is joining us in the Bay Area community!!!! I hope you have a wonderful time here! The Bay Area is so lucky to have you!!!
Well done YOYOKA. We’re all happy for you .
VERY brave to go on tv and practice/speak English, I would panic…lol. You killed it on the drums and now a lot more people have heard about you.
Yoyoka is picking up English at lightning speed. None of us who've been following her journey are surprised by that. She's brilliant and absolutely fearless.
I've been a fan since "Happy" what a journey! Much love Yoyoka and family!
The most charismatic drummer on the scene today imo.
You might check out Paulina Villareal.
@@rexwave4624 Pow (the nickname she is known by), is one of the most charismatic drummer on the scene today as well. I've been a fan of The Warning from before they had their first gig at Whiskey A Go Go.
@@longcastle4863 no argument from me! My first time seeing The Warning live was this, although Pau isn't well-lit. I was standing dead centre under the white lights. It was really loud (110dBA and more) and clean. The bass and drums were atomic. ruclips.net/video/hxHoFGxpR9A/видео.html
I root for this girl so hard. This one swelled a tear in my eye.
Exactly
She is awesome, cannot believe she is now in US at music school, she could have stopped at age 3 and passed me in music ability. Not to mention all the hoopla in second country second language....amazing.
2:45 Yoyoka never had to practice,it just came naturally as fun for her, lol.
Your English is getting better your very good in all good luck in 2023
Amazing.
Yes! Exhilarating drum solo! Yoyoka, You are very inspiring! Welcome to the US😊ROCK ON!!
I have been following her since she first started. I am so proud of her!!!
Your English is amazing. My mother came from Japan and learning English is not easy. You are a very smart young lady.
Love her even more now!!
What a powerhouse!!
