- This September, one 13-year-old girl left Hokkaido, Japan for America. Her name is YOYOKA, and she is world-widely known as a rising-drummer. She has been recognized by some of the world-famous musicians, such as Led Zeppelin and Cyndi Lauper, when she produced her video on the Internet at the age of 8. And this year, she and her family decided to move to America to hone her drumming skill and music. Why did she make such a decision at her age? We followed one of her days in the US.

よよかちゃんでは失礼になってしまいますね。よよかさん、1度しかない人生ですので、思う存分楽しんで欲しいと思います。パパ、ママにはホント頭が下がります。
外野としては弟さんがちょっと心配。お姉ちゃんのために家族で移住して、その移住先で弟さんも上手く自分の居場所や何か没頭できることを見つけられればいいけど、そうでなければ家族に対して複雑な気持ちを抱えて生活していく事になりそう…アジアンヘイトなんかを目の当たりにするようなことがあればなおさら。よよかちゃん本人だって、お父さんが自分のために仕事を辞めたとなればプレッシャーも相当なはず。この家族にはどうか上手くいってほしいです。
よよかちゃんはエライっ!おなじくご両親もエライ！！と思う。
ただし、子供の頃、天才といわれて大人になっても褒められたミュージシャンは極めて稀であることも現実で。
よよかファンの一人として「テクをこえてハートを射抜け！」と思う。
よよかには、これからこそが分かれ目の勝負！だと思うが、「心を射抜くドラマー」になってもらいたい！頑張れ！！！！！
飛び抜けた才能は残念ながら日本では育たない。8分の出来くらいの奴を粒揃えて出すのは得意だけどね。願わくばストレートなハードロックやメタルのほうに進んで欲しい。それこそイアンペイスみたいな。

普通のちゃんとした子って感じなところもいい感じ！
「ただドラマーって言ってほしい」ってのがまじでかっこいい。
そうなんだよ、若いからとか女だからとかじゃなく、ドラマーを目指してんだよ。
グルーヴ、音色、音の粒の揃い方、素晴らしいです。本当に年齢とか性別とか関係なく、Great Drummer だと思う！アメリカで良い仲間と出会ってロックバンドで見てみたいです！
せめて中学を卒業してから渡米するべきでは、と思っていたが、これを観ると正解だったかもしれないな。経済的にはとても大変だとは思いますが。

すばらしい。どこかのクラウドファンディングでおねだりの13才と違うな。こんな13才の子にこそクラウドファンディングしたい。
3か月ほど前にクラウドファンディングの募金が有りまして小生も微力ながら若干の協力をさせていただきました。それは渡米後の【スタジオ整備並びに向こうのミュージシャンとのレコーディング費用】ということでYoyoka さんがパールとの契約前に使用していたドラムセットからサイン色紙まで僅かの間に百数十人から1000万円以上の応募がありました。渡米費用はご両親の蓄えで準備されていたようでした。参考までに。
YOYOKAさん、つい最近あなたが７歳の時にCHARさんのSMOKYを叩いてる動画を見て感動しました。私は52歳で素人のドラムスですが、YOYOKAさんは頂点に辿り着ける方です。慣れない環境など色々問題はあるかもしれませんが自信を持って突き進んでください。求める答えはいくらでも見つけられると思います。応援してます。
よよかさんが小さいころから見ていました。このまま日本にいたらメディアに潰されてしまうかな？と、少し心配していました。アメリカへ渡ることは最良な事だと思います。伸び伸び演奏できるし、またいろいろな事を学べると思います。
ご家族も異国で大変でしょうが、皆様の夢が叶うことを日本から応援しています。

やはりアメリカはよいでしょう。日本では比較されてしまいますが、アメリカは個人の才能を伸ばすので、日本のようにドラムをやってて将来どうなるのという感覚はないです。開放されてよかったですね。私もアメリカに始めてきたときにそれを感じました。アメリカに来る機会がなければ来ませんでしたが、一度体験してしまったので、そのときに強い決意を持ってしまったんですね。それから近所付き合い、親戚付き合い、社会の常識で縛られることもありません。のびのびとできます。しっかり感覚を磨いて創造性を豊かにして新しいものを生み出してくださいね。それは自然に現れてくるものなので、いつも自然でよいかと思います。

Yoyoka is a phenomenal tallent - she is a treasure and my favorite young musician. I believe that she could be one of the top 50 drummers in the world at 13 years old.
Yoyoka is one of the best drummers in the world, even though she is still learning. She is not just a drummer, but a musician. She listens to not just the beats, but the tone of the instruments. Yoyoka gives me chills of joy every time I watch and listen to her play musik. "Good Times, Bad Times" cover by Led Zeppelin when she was age 8 hooked me. Something really inspiring and great is coming from her. I cannot wait to hear and listen to it. Arigato Yoyoka.

確かに 天才 とか分かり易い言葉は素人の上手い人に付ける称号かも知れない ドラマーと言って欲しいと言うところにプロ意識を感じる 昔 イチローの元監督がイチローを野球選手と言うより アーティスト (芸術家)と称していたのは印象的だった イチローに今更天才何て称号は不必要 アーティスト て最高の称号だと思った、
いや、少女とか言われるのは今だけだから、気にせず逆に楽しめば良いんだよ。

I’ve been following Yoyoka’s drummer for 4 years. I’ve learned to truly appreciate what it takes to be a drummer at her level and this is backed up by some top musicians and drum instructors. Hey, just watch a couple of her RUclips videos. She rocks and can play some complicated songs. IMO…Excellent drummer and I’m happy she’s in the US. Perfect place for her to pursue her love of music and I look forward to watching her evolution. She’s got very cool parents that support her along this journey and brother Shido is a diamond in the rough. Welcome Yoyoka, enjoy this journey and enjoy being a kid too.

今までやってきたことや日本の教育についての意見、家族も同じ意見なこと、渡米費用をクラファンではないがマイパトロンを募ったことも含め、やってることはほぼほぼゆたぼんと同じ。
ただただ、圧倒的に、世界を魅了できる才能があったかなかったかで結果が違ってるんだろうな。
ホントだね！全然マインドが違うしね、宝石の原石か！ただの石ころのか。

@@kenmak8729 そうですね。動画の中でご両親も語っていましたが７～８歳の頃から日本で一番権威あるドラムコンテストに応募しても入賞することは無かったのですが同年8歳の時に海外のコンテストへの応募で世界中で評判となりユーチューブ動画もバズリ本人も初めて自信が持てたそうです。その後はデイープパープルのドラマーイアンペイス氏からセッションの誘いを受けたり世界で最高権威の Drummer Word の故人も含め世界 TOP 500 に日本では (神保章、川口千里)に 続き世界最年少で選ばれました。数人の審査員は神童として選ばれたわけでは無く近い将来大きなコンサート会場で演奏する姿が想像できる、とまで言われました。手数の多さやテクニックの重きを置く日本の某コンテストとは違いグルーブや音楽性を評価する外国に居場所を感じたと想像しています。
よよかちゃん。アメリカの水が合ったんだね。よかったよかった！
にしても、そうか、一般のニュースではロバート・プラントにのけぞられたり、イアン・ペイスとコラボしたり…てのより、シンディ・ローパーのほうが強いんだねー。それもそれでビックリ♡

Yoyoka don't ever stop reaching for your dreams.
Seems like she accomplishes "One of her dreams" almost weekly now, right! She has big dreams, and unlike most of us, they are ALL within her reach. She will probably need to adjust her time frame on playing at the Super Bowl though. In her mind she had that scheduled for this year. Might take a bit longer, but IT WILL happen!

I’ve watched and listened to probably every YT video Yoyoka has put out and they are excellent. Ive come to truly appreciate drumming because of her and the reaction videos. I’ve also read the comments and I can tell you 99.99% of them say that Yoyoka is an excellent drummer, musician AND a cool person.
I’m so happy she has seen her dream come true and made it to the US. It looks like she has found a cool school and already warmed the hearts of her classmates.
I look forward to watching her evolve into what will certainly be a great drummer and musician.
It should also be said that she has the coolest parents.
Show them what you can do Yoyoka. Maybe design your own line of drumsticks. Hahaha.

Based on your comment I have the solution. She needs to be involved somehow in replanting trees she uses so many drumsticks. Either that or buy a forest and charge admission to visit the "YOYOKA Woods Nature Conservancy". Cost of admission is $10 (One Pair of Drumsticks).
And the great part is...When she catapults into another stratosphere...You can say...I knew her when.
@@P.G.1966 Better than that! Her and her family have stayed with me a couple of times in Las Vegas. I got to watch her practice, attended "The Ocean" recording with Ellen, watched her live at the Japanese Festival, Attended the Silk Sonic concert with her, got to sit next to her, and because I was with her, we got to go back stage and meet Anderson.Paak (cool guy, very nice to us). Definitely one of the coolest things that has happened to me in my life! Now my life is complete! LOL

To most easily understand Yoyoka's natural genius, you have to know John Bonham well, understand how this greatest rock drummer ever is considered impossible to fully imitate, and then see Yoyoka playing Bonham's music perfectly with seemingly no effort. This is what makes musicians' jaws drop when she plays.
That's why people started saying that Yoyoka is Bonham reincarnated
she has an incredible combination of power and understanding.
Her parents are truly amazing. A lot of talented children here (I live in Japan) simply aren't given the chances they deserve. She's really lucky to have parents who support her. I'm really surprised the whole family moved to the US, though, and not just Yoyoka.

音の太さにつながってると思うけど、スティックをあそこまでグリップエンド側で持って、大振りしてもスティックコントロールできるのはすごい
英語なんて住み続けていれば上達する。彼女の強みは超絶技巧のドラムテクニック。これさえあればアメリカ人も黙らせられる

Little? I get that way every time I watch her. I had the pleasure of meeting her and spending time with her (and the family). She is just as special as she appears!
Just got into her talent. She hits HARD and is fast. Bonham would be proud. She is keeping the 70s rock drumming alive for us older folks.
She can play all genres, from rock to pop to r&b and hip-hop.
So much talent and she’s so young! Yikes!
私個人の主観的見解ではありますが、確かに日本国内で少々極めても 中々、それ一つで生計を立てる事は難しいのが現状でございますので、アメリカに渡り腕を磨く事は、非常に良い選択肢だと思います。しかしながら、競争率の高い分野の一つでもございますので 上達する事は勿論の事、完璧なプロフェッショナルに なる事が必須でございます。良い講師、良い師匠に出会えると良いですね⁉️🤔

Dear Yoyoka, just wondering if you had considered covering some Carlos Santana music like, Black Magic Woman or Oye Como Va, which would introduce you to the world of latin/pop genre. Look at the great covers during his Kennedy Center Awards program with guitar cover by Tom Morello. You might catch the attention of Carlos much like you did with Robert Plant and that would continue to help advance your opportunities. Also, blues rhythms covering classics, Buddy Guy, as well as current artist John Mayer. Then in a completely different direction, you might cover Keith Urban songs and become recognized in that genre. Your opportunities are endless, but you've had great success by covering Led Zeppelin and might continue that model. Wishing you the best success and looking forward to more covers!

Father: Becauuse I have such a talented child, I have no choice but to move to the US. I quit my government job in Japan to come here. I had to do that to allow her to challenge the world.
I grew up without a dad, so I wouldn't know for sure, but I think that is a father's love, made manifest by sacrifice.
