⚠️ ⚠️ Just to clarify, Krist used almost exclusively alternate picking. With 'No downpicking' I mean he does not use a 'only downpicking' policy that most bassist in this type of band use . Thanks for pointing that out.

i GOT IT!
Definitely one of the most underrated rock bassists, man, Krist was a total beast on bass
@AJ AJ yes
@AJ AJ Agreed. I mean he is ok but far from great.
He kicks ass on the accordion too!
@@steveschu not agreed HE WAS GREAT
@AJ AJ i think he is underrated because of how simple some of his bass lines are but he was great not at the level of other people but he was a very good bass player
Krist is one of the reasons I picked up a bass guitar. I love his bass parts, especially the melodic lines that he played. He would play different riffs during the choruses than the guitar that really added a whole other element to the songs.
Very underrated bass player.
That's like saying someone sucks in the NFL. He played in a band that could sellout a reason I wouldnt say he's underrated.
@@seansullivan7928 there’s underrated nfl players buddy
@@Owen-ne6pe explain then? And I'll rebut.
@@seansullivan7928 but he didnt explain
@B This-- until I started learning Nirvana baselines I didn't realize how cool they were.
And there's also a bunch of Nirvana songs that would be nowhere close to as cool as they are without his bass lines, and he did it all while jumping around with the bass below his waist!
When you said "no downpicking" I thought you meant krist only played with uppicking lmao
Just to clarify, Krist used almost exclusively alternate picking. With 'No downpicking' I mean he does not use a 'only downpicking' policy that most bassist in this type of band use . Thanks for pointing that out!

I’ve been playing for 25 years, thousands of hours of experience. Recently I started giving lessons to some high school students who are ridiculously into Nirvana. I’ve learned that Novoselic was an awesome bassist. The laid back but aggressive attitude in his lines is difficult to nail down. Maybe I’m just too old and don’t have that energy anymore.
Krist is one of the greatest bass players ever.
His sense of rhythm and melody are pretty darn awesome and just as good as anyone else in Nirvana.
He just gave an excellent counterpoint to Kurt's vocals.
Krist Novoselic has long been one of my favorite bass players of the 90's and is totally underrated.
Blew on the bleach Album also starts with bass and it’s really good
And the bass sound on that song is HUGE! I absolutely love that distorted bass tone!!
@@GugaRamone That's thanks to being in Drop C, they were in Drop D, he forgot it tuned it down more.
I'm a guitarist and I thought learning the bass would be just an easier version. How I wrong i was it's an entirely different animal and I love it krist got me into wanting to learn more about the bass definitely one of the best bass players of rock history
Addicted to these
His Gibson RD had electronics designed by Moog!
One of my favorite Nirvana songs is Scentless Apprentice. The bass and drums blend in together.
Glad you did a vid on Chris . He was always the best musician in Nirvana by far .
Under appreciated bass player for sure! Given the credit Nirvana gets...
He's so fucking underrated bass player, and he team up with dave what a fucking magic ❤️
Really enjoyed your dismantling of Krists bass playing
Lounge Act what a line
Helped create Nirvanas sound

I came from your John Deacon video, loving your analysis of all these great bass players!
Krist is an amazing bass player, his bass playing is very original and he never really tried to be be lazy like most bass players in the 90s and just play on the top string. Another great bass player to mention is Robert deleo of STP
this is a such good serie ! learning all the tricks from the greatests
Please, Geezer Butler for the next
You rock man!
Always a great lessons from you, Paul! Thank you.
The work you put into this channel with breaking down the styles of different bass players, just amazing! ❤❤❤ Thank you buddy!
I love Krist, he's one of my favorite bass players and in my opinion one of the most underrated, and it's his bass lines that I've learned first.
With that said, I have no f****** idea how he managed to play with his bass below his waist while bouncing around!
I've tried it, again and again, and I just can't do it.
Maybe it's his extremely big hands? Does he even have big hands? I know he's extremely tall.
But then again I know of other players, both bassists and guitar players from the '90s who did the same thing, I just can't get it !
Krist is amazing! I want a video like this of Gene Simmons! Greetings from Argentina
I think it already is?
@@sagvancoffee7364 No, it´s "10 KISS hits where Gene Simmons did NOT play bass on" and "Why there is (pretty much) no bass in KISS' 1980s music?" but there is no "How to sound like"
@@leandrodelvalle300 oh okey, sorry, just thought
@@leandrodelvalle300 Why on Earth would you want to play like Gene Simmons anyway?
@@mtp4430 Because he´s one of the most recognized bass players in the world, he´s not Jaco, of course, but his 70´s era it´s remembered even today, listen for example "Sure Know Something", he has a lot of great bass lines, and you will find that he has a great personal style and taste when it comes to play bass
Geezer Butler please!! (early sabbath)
I love Kris Novoselic!
Love this series! 🤟🏻
Great video!=) I am not the biggest Nirvana fan but I like Krist Novoselic which I think is an underrated bass player
I always get Beatles vibes from “About a Girl”
Kurt actually wrote the song after listening to Meet The Beatles for a few hours on repeat.
I think he pinched it from Blood And Roses by Smithereens.
Amazing video as always, thank you Paul
Lounge act is a dope ass bass line
Drop the bass on your head. Get that elusive 'skull tone'.
Great video! Your demonstration of how make a dull bass part into KN bass part is very useful and spice up one's playing!
I love your videos mate. So in-depth in theroy and tone
He’s one of my favorite bassists. He was great when h played bass for Flipper!
Dude you're killing it in these videos. I just found you a few days ago.
This is just what I needed.
I am learning a lot from you! Thank you!
Thanks for this video man!!
Please do a video on how to sound like Mike Dirnt from Green Day.
he listened to the beatles on repeat for a full day before writing it
MUY INTERESANTE!
Yeah, people call it a "slash" chord, but correct term is "inversion". When you play a chord, but rather than the root note on the bottom, you play one of the other notes on the bottom. If you play an open C major chord, but also fret the low E at the 3rd fret (G note), you have a C/G That is, a C major with the fifth (G) on the bottom instead of the root (C). If you play the C chord, but also the low open E you have a C/E - C major with the third (E) on the bottom.
awesome dude,
can you do cliff burton next plz
This is amazing!!! ImI
make a video about Chi Cheng (deftones) plss
greatest good ❣️
Hi, can you make a video of Klaus Flouride from Dead Kennedys please?
Hahaha, yeah he's a totally under rated punk player
You're great
How could you not add the best nirvana bass line Sliver
I just noticed Krist holds his pick between his thumb and his middle finger. Funny, I do that too.
Can u do John Deacon please 🤩
Can you do a video on roger glover
great stuff...krist is def underrated...great player..Listening to incesticide right now
One of their best albums, the cool point in their career between their early underground & later commercial sound
Can we get a video of how to play bass like Ethan Eck from the band, Paper Sweaters?
Very underrated bass player
DESCENDANTS bassists video please
Please do a video on Dan andriano from alkaline trio!!!
💖
i would really like one of this videos on ben shepherd or mike starr that would be sick
What is the song about the “practical demonstration” in the end of the video?
What picks did he use?
you'll get even closer, if not spot on with a jazz bass rather than a P bass. His tones were naturally mid scooped from the bass that he played, while the P bass's tones are higher in mids.
Get a tbird or gibson bass if you want to sound like him!
are you sure with the roto stainless steels? i've read he used nickels. not sure whats right
Do a video on one of the most underrated bass players of all time Harley Flanagen of The Cro-Mags.
I'm sure you have seen them, but Harley has done his own videos about his style of playing. There's nothing better than the source, especially since *EVERYBODY* (myself included who grew up watching him in person) plays his stuff wrong to begin with.
You’re tearing me apart Lisa!
If you haven't you should do videos on Andy Rourke and Steve Severin
I couldn’t hear the bass parts for the examples
You can clearly see that cliff burton was a big influence on his bass playing
0:49 eh i don't think i'd call it green day-ish. mike dirnts playing is a bit more technical and fast
Love your videos! You should do a video on David Elfeson from Megadeath.
I thought Kurt wroted the bass lines too 🤔
Cool insights! How much more boring Nirvana would be if he just doubled the guitar.
Isn't he pronounced like "Novoselich" though?
I want to sound like Noveselic as much as Paul wants to sound like Rick Beato. Or not.
Yeah it kinda bugs me he has the "basic bassist" label. His lines aren't exactly difficult to play, but I don't think "basic" is a good descriptor. He definitely has a signature style that is tasteful and adds a lot of melody to Kurt's (actually basic) riffs and vocals. He's had a massive influence on my own playing, and I often wonder what Krist would do in certain situations.
Most people (myself included) had no idea what was going on under the guitars on Heart Shaped Box. Krist adds some awesome syncopation via pull-offs and other little rhythmic embellishments.
Style>technique
Chris said he served the guitar.. Like in lounge act... Yup is
Bro you said green day...damn
Bon.Te sei italiano. Non capisco se sei Emiliano o Lombardo. vediamo se ho indovinato
Cazzo non c ero arrivato 😂😂😂

2:10 6.7? I had to think about for a second. You meant 6 feet 7 inches (200.66 cm) tall. There's 12 inches in a foot not 10. Damn those American Imperial measurements. 😁
krist noveselic did have a certian bass sound tbh in the studio he mainly used humbicking gibson basses in the studio, live it never mattered tho
That turned into a ska punk song at the end
NovoseliC as in each, not eek.
I love nirvana. Until now
?
@@1985cactus
I think they were trying to say that they love Nirvana to this day or something
are you seriously claiming he only up-picks? wtf
Mook ly no, he means he only alternate picks
I mean Krist is doing bends only because the guitar is doing it too, so he changes the note as Kurt and it gives a more sloppy note change and it sounds great, but if Kurt didn't do any bend he wouldn't imo, cuz a bass doing bends where there is no bends just flips the band over and the bass maintains the band in order, so if you change of root by bending you'll lose your bandmates & it will sound quite bad to be honest.
Thx for uploading. If you have a second come check out my music videos - I'm an indie musician and think you might dig my sound. Really appreciate it!
my thoughts on Krist is he wasn't a good player. I do like Nirvana nonetheless
2:09 wow u really just said he is 6 point 7
It's too bad he dumped the Democratic party and supports the Donald Trump Republican party. 😒🐘( M.A.G.A.)
He doesn't.
He actually supports the independent party
Ok and? Peoples political views have nothing to do with their skill. And besides, he never said he was full Republican, he said he just agreed with things trump did. He's independent just like what the person above said
Without Chris and Dave Kurt guitar line is boring shit
