@AJ AJ i think he is underrated because of how simple some of his bass lines are but he was great not at the level of other people but he was a very good bass player
@B This-- until I started learning Nirvana baselines I didn't realize how cool they were. And there's also a bunch of Nirvana songs that would be nowhere close to as cool as they are without his bass lines, and he did it all while jumping around with the bass below his waist!
Krist is one of the reasons I picked up a bass guitar. I love his bass parts, especially the melodic lines that he played. He would play different riffs during the choruses than the guitar that really added a whole other element to the songs.
I’ve been playing for 25 years, thousands of hours of experience. Recently I started giving lessons to some high school students who are ridiculously into Nirvana. I’ve learned that Novoselic was an awesome bassist. The laid back but aggressive attitude in his lines is difficult to nail down. Maybe I’m just too old and don’t have that energy anymore.
Just to clarify, Krist used almost exclusively alternate picking. With 'No downpicking' I mean he does not use a 'only downpicking' policy that most bassist in this type of band use . Thanks for pointing that out!
Krist is one of the greatest bass players ever. His sense of rhythm and melody are pretty darn awesome and just as good as anyone else in Nirvana. He just gave an excellent counterpoint to Kurt's vocals.
I'm a guitarist and I thought learning the bass would be just an easier version. How I wrong i was it's an entirely different animal and I love it krist got me into wanting to learn more about the bass definitely one of the best bass players of rock history
Krist is an amazing bass player, his bass playing is very original and he never really tried to be be lazy like most bass players in the 90s and just play on the top string. Another great bass player to mention is Robert deleo of STP
I love Krist, he's one of my favorite bass players and in my opinion one of the most underrated, and it's his bass lines that I've learned first. With that said, I have no f****** idea how he managed to play with his bass below his waist while bouncing around! I've tried it, again and again, and I just can't do it. Maybe it's his extremely big hands? Does he even have big hands? I know he's extremely tall. But then again I know of other players, both bassists and guitar players from the '90s who did the same thing, I just can't get it !
@@sagvancoffee7364 No, it´s "10 KISS hits where Gene Simmons did NOT play bass on" and "Why there is (pretty much) no bass in KISS' 1980s music?" but there is no "How to sound like"
@@mtp4430 Because he´s one of the most recognized bass players in the world, he´s not Jaco, of course, but his 70´s era it´s remembered even today, listen for example "Sure Know Something", he has a lot of great bass lines, and you will find that he has a great personal style and taste when it comes to play bass
Krist is a cool player. I like the way he will play a few bars lower on the neck with the guitar and then move way up the neck and carve out another little side path that compliments Kurts riffs which are lower, and then he'll come back to rejoin Kurt. His sound was simple and didn't have many effects but it could be really heavy. Krist isn't an angry or depressive person but some of his basslines had a very heavy, dark quality, like on Come On Death, Dive, Milk It etc. Very punk.
I'm sure you have seen them, but Harley has done his own videos about his style of playing. There's nothing better than the source, especially since *EVERYBODY* (myself included who grew up watching him in person) plays his stuff wrong to begin with.
you'll get even closer, if not spot on with a jazz bass rather than a P bass. His tones were naturally mid scooped from the bass that he played, while the P bass's tones are higher in mids.
Yeah it kinda bugs me he has the "basic bassist" label. His lines aren't exactly difficult to play, but I don't think "basic" is a good descriptor. He definitely has a signature style that is tasteful and adds a lot of melody to Kurt's (actually basic) riffs and vocals. He's had a massive influence on my own playing, and I often wonder what Krist would do in certain situations. Most people (myself included) had no idea what was going on under the guitars on Heart Shaped Box. Krist adds some awesome syncopation via pull-offs and other little rhythmic embellishments.
2:10 6.7? I had to think about for a second. You meant 6 feet 7 inches (200.66 cm) tall. There's 12 inches in a foot not 10. Damn those American Imperial measurements. 😁
I mean Krist is doing bends only because the guitar is doing it too, so he changes the note as Kurt and it gives a more sloppy note change and it sounds great, but if Kurt didn't do any bend he wouldn't imo, cuz a bass doing bends where there is no bends just flips the band over and the bass maintains the band in order, so if you change of root by bending you'll lose your bandmates & it will sound quite bad to be honest.
Ok and? Peoples political views have nothing to do with their skill. And besides, he never said he was full Republican, he said he just agreed with things trump did. He's independent just like what the person above said

Isn't he pronounced like "Novoselich" though?
krist noveselic did have a certian bass sound tbh in the studio he mainly used humbicking gibson basses in the studio, live it never mattered tho
