Fun fact: I teach Organic Chemistry and my students are making "cold process" soap (saponification) tomorrow in lab. They're scenting it with limonene - lemon essential oil that they isolated previously in lab. Gotta love making soap!
I miss Chemistry! Wished I had done something professionally with it, but I was scared off once it reached University level🙄

Omg what??? I took orgo last semester and our labs were never that cool 😢 a lot of separating mixtures of things and identifying unknowns I would have loved to do something more relatable to daily life, we did synthesize aspirin once tho but obviously we didn't get to make it into pills and take it home lol

Poor Ty he really made filling that piping bag harder than it needed to be. Get yourself a cup and fold it over the edge. Than fill it. Make sure you pack the the filling down so it makes it easier. It doesn't have to be so hard.

I have a hand mixer that has a specific way to install the whisks but still have trouble now and then lol

I agree with everything you said. It looks like they have really great chemistry and have a good relationship with their employees. And it is very relaxing!
Suggestion:
Use a pipette or syringe to fill the tiny molds (ex: bats). I do that with my epoxy resin molds because once they harden, they are extremely hard to deal with taking off excess. So, using the pipette or syringe allows me the precision I need.
it might be worth a shot!! my only worry there would be -- would the hot melt and pour soap melt the pipette? thats happened to us with hot lipstick before lol
@@safiyaandtyler glass pipettes would hold up, they are more expensive but hold to high temperatures
@@safiyaandtyler a "serological pipette" may suit your needs! It has a long replaceable glass tube at the bottom and at the top there is a "pump" (non electric, there's a little wheel you turn with your thumb) that pulls the liquid up the tube, none of the liquid goes into the pump so no contact with plastic or risk of melting and the glass is lab grade so much more difficult to shatter
They could also just cut the excess off with a knife before taking the embeds out of the molds. So just cutting the „butt“ off
@@leahg.3393 If the thing I'm thinking of is the same thing as what you're describing, I've used one of those in my chemistry a level for titrations.

Doing a face cast is actually very common and I’ve seen a lot of people manage to even do it on themself. A lot of cosplayers and SFX artists make them in order to make things that fit exactly to their face.

Saf, you guys should make a trip to Carlsbad Caverns in Carlsbad, NM! 🦇 The caverns are incredible with self-guided and guided tours and they do the “Dawn of the Bats” super early in the morning and the “Bat Flight Program” in the evening. It’s awesome! 🦇
Lmao but a good tip is to know that the walk down requires good grippy shoes!! (And is a lot longer and steeper than when we were kids 😂😂😂)

If it helps, they stream at the exact same time every week. So if you remember that time (in your timezone) and set an alarm on your phone, you will never miss a stream!

Oooo that would be a cool way to have portable soap if you have allergies to soap in public bathrooms (my friend does) but I suspect having moisture on the soap and then putting the cover on might be an issue
Could do soap in the actual lipstick mold so that people can have to-go lipstick shaped soap in little containers and reuse old lipstick tubes, cute ecofriendly travel soap

Just a tip: If you run a sharp knife over the top of the mold when the soap has hardened, you can cut off the extra and don´t have to do it after you unmold ;)
one time I accidentally stuck my fingers in a hand mixer and my fingers got all twisted. Afterwards I was crying because i thought I broke my fingers, but actually I just bruised them a whole lot and they got all swollen. Luckily it was my left hand and I'm right handed lol. It has quieted all intrusive thoughts to stick my fingers in one again.
I really gotta start getting snacks before watching the stream.... now I gotta go buy some ruffles

Hello! Just came off your YSL video on the main channel and thought I would offer a suggestion in order to execute your lipstick soap idea. Perhaps create individual stackable disks (think donuts) using a vertical paper towel holder to keep it intact. Starting with black disks for the bullet holder, and cap off with your favourite shade of lipstick. So each time you wash, take a disk off the top. Very cool gadget, albeit pricey. Agree on wider shade range requirement to justify this.
Safiya, the face moulding technique is called ‘life casting’ !
You can do it at home, there are LOTS of tutorials but there are also companies that do them. If you know any special fx artists or prop makers they may have done it before!
Note for the future: Use transfer pipets to fill the embeds. So much easier to control the molten soap.

If you talk to the college near you, you may be able to convince the theater makeup professors to do a mold of your face for you, they often do face molds to make prosthetics for actors

I love watching all your soap videos, they so remind me of chemistry class (17/18 years old). We were making soaps, and could optionally add some essential oil for scent, I accidentally added an entire vial - my soap dried fully in 2-3hours, rest of the classmates soaps took a good couple of days to solidify. Oops i did a misstake O:)

If you fold the frosting bag down (like rolling up your sleeve) you can just scrape whatever into it. When you flip it up the end stays clean.
Tip for filling a piping bag: Fold over the bag to cup your hand and then you can use your hand as an edge and you can scrape off the spatula with your hand that is holding the bag. It will also be further down in the bag. Then when you're done filling it unroll it and your good to go.
idea for the soap lipstick put the soap in your lipstick mold after freezing the mold so it quick cools the soap

The cake turned out super cute! A tip for using your icing bag... When you are going to fill it with icing, put the pointy part into a glass and fold the top around the glass so you can reach the bottom of the bag easier. 🥛🥄🍰

Filling piping bags would be easier if you fold the top down over your hand so the opening is closer to the tip *and* you can scrape the spatula on your hand
