- Hello friends! Here is our full stream from this week (6/8) -- hope you guys enjoy!! :)
This week we’re testing out a custom ice cream maker we saw on TikTok that supposedly turns frozen fruit into a delicious treat. Will the Yonanas machine live up to the hype and how far can we push its limits? We're going to try strawberries & bananas, tomatoes, avocados, cucumbers, and flaming hot cheeto logs and see what happens 😈

When my daughter was a toddler I convinced her that we could make "icecream" at home by blending frozen fruit because I'm lactose intolerant, she loved it and it was a healthy treat, she's a teen now and knows the difference and loves both
I love making making fruit smoothies because it feels like a sweet frozen treat even through it's just fruit and juice
My mom did this for my niece. But then my niece clued in and would specify not Nan's ice cream.
I just imagine her having that one day where she just slowly looked up at you like “you… you lied to me…” at the realization that the blended frozen fruits weren’t ice cream.

Carly is like a mom, trying to keep some controll through kids weird science experiment. (also got some flashback to the old series "Home inprovement, where you only saw Wilson's hat/heard his voice through the fence)

And yes, the Wilson vibe is real. In a way, could be kind of a running gag of having Carly 'almost' in camera and 'nope, maybe next time'

This is the same thing you can do with a regular food processor and frozen fruit, there's no need to buy an extra kitchen gadget like this. Having said that, I always enjoy watching you guys try all these things!
Except most blenders and food processors can't handle fully frozen fruit. You need a really strong motor in it to blend rock hard fruit. I make smoothie bowls pretty often and i have to let the fruit soften a little and add coconut yoghurt too.

@@emilycorby8997 “most”? 😂 this sounds like a you problem, I wouldn’t make a claim like that if I were you since you can’t know how every single blender works or every persons experience with one. I’ve never had that problem with any blender/food processor I’ve used, whether it’s been a personal one or in someone else’s kitchen.. even my super cheap tiny Magic Bullet has been blending my frozen fruits/ice for YEARS with no problems.
I have a cheap as chips food processor that I've used to pureed frozen fruit for my nephew for years 😅

What do you use it with?
Funny. We have avocado smoothies all the time in Vietnam. Avocado, ice, condensed milk, and sugar blend together. It's soooooo good!!!!
My sister had them a lot while visiting Vietnam made with sweetened condensed milk. She said they were very sweet but delicious and refreshing!

Banana has a lot of pectin, that's why it works best as a smooth base.
Yes, I have a similar machine made by the Magic Bullet people. EVERY recipe has frozen banana as a base (of course, none of the recipes feature tomatoes, avocados, or Cheetos 😁).

@@missbeaussie Yes, something about the smooth texture of a frozen banana. I'm having a hard time imagining frozen apple ice cream!
It could also be because the tomato has a super high water content. It’s really juicy when you eat it, so it would be more icy when frozen, whereas nobody will ever describe avocado or bananas as juicy. I think maybe the creamer the food at room temperature the better it will come out of the machine
In the early to mid 2000s, my mom went through a carrot juice phase, the juicer she used also made sorbet if you put frozen fruit in instead of fresh. As a kid I loved when we got to make "fruitcream" so this is giving me a nice nostalgic feeling.
I think I would go with lime juice for the avocado sorbet, I'm a fan of sour/tart flavors and I think it's sweet enough to pull it into the dessert realm.
If you really want to test the Yonanas limit, see if it works as a juicer and stick a carrot or something in there, just keep in mind that you would probably need to strain out the pulp since there isn't a built in filter. Also, carrot juice is definitely an acquired taste 🤣
On one hand, I'd be worried a carrot would be too hard and bust the machine, but on the other hand, I want to watch it happen.

I think if you mixed cubes of frozen custard with the fruit you would get something more like actual icecream.
I love Saf's facial reactions to the different sorbets lol its a mixture of disgust, shock, confusion and maybe liking it :p
Safiya and Tyler always seems to have the most fun when they're trying some unique machine. I love it!

Re: the product not tasting sweet; since it's literally only fruit, you get out what you put in. I make smoothies with only fruit (half frozen, half fresh blends decently well in a ninja blender), and I've discovered that there's not much room to hide bad/unripe fruit when you do it that way. I also recommend including red grapes in the mix because they act like a sweetener.
That first Amazon review Safiya read is literally iconic. What a piece of literature
I've actually had yonanas for months now, and while the product advertises to place bananas before any other fruit to get a creamy consistency, you don't have to. My favorite fake sorbet to make is with just using frozen mangos :)
Also, there'll be a lot of frozen fruit clumps left in the machine, so you can just unscrew the bottom lid and scoop it out so you're not wasting any fruit

I came here for this comment. We were gifted one like 8 years ago by grandma. We used it a few times and then we held on to it after my grandma passed away because of my weird grief guilt issues. I finally donated it last year in a declutter because we can use our blender to make it.

I had the weirdest urge to tell you to get a crayon maker and make crayons but using natural dyes.. like cucumber to make mint green. I dont have a crayon maker, idk if this is a feasible idea or not 🤣.

cucumbers probably wouldn't work for a few reasons (too much water, not enough pigment to show through in a crayon) but other natural things might!! turmeric is used sometimes as a yellow so that might work? i think it's an interesting idea!
Spinach is the best green, beets work for pink, and black can be done with charcoal or squid ink. I watch a lot of British Bake Off.

The tastiest banana ice cream that I have made: bananas, almond butter, maple syrup and a bit of soy milk to blend. Soooooo tasty.

My Mauritian MIL introduced me to sweet avocados. Apparently that was just how she ate them growing up, as a dessert. I think I'll personally always prefer them salted over sweetened, but it did open my eyes to how versatile they are.
Sweet avocado shakes are definitely a thing you can get at most Vietnamese restaurants. So delicious!!
