    can i use “gin” instead of “tarn”?

    • @letslearnthai
      @letslearnthai  4 года назад +1

      Yes, you can. 'gin' is informal while 'tarn' is a bit more formal and polite. 'rub-pra-tarn' is another word for the exact same meaning and it's the most formal one.

    Is pi-seet and perm same?

    • @letslearnthai
      @letslearnthai  2 года назад

      Direct translation is "no"
      Pi set = special
      Perm = more, to add more
      But indirectly when ordering food, sometimes it means the same because when you add something more, it's special (in quantity/price)

    How would you order food if it's in limited quantity in natural way? For example you want to order a donut and 2 cakes how would you say that?

    • @letslearnthai
      @letslearnthai  4 года назад

      You can say
      sue donut lae cake yarng la 2 chint
      ซื้อโดนัทและเค้กอย่างละ 2 ชิ้น
      OR
      sue donut 2 chint gub cake 2 chint
      ซื้อโดนัท 2 ชิ้น กับ เค้ก 2 ชิ้น
      You need to learn about unit classifier.

    Pee kaa means you ?

  • @troy5731
    @troy5731 4 года назад

    1. using the same transliteration "ror" for "wait"and the question word "?"/ "really?" word is confusing. 2. The sentence where you repeat back the order "mai sai prik kai dao" is interesting...in Thai you can omit the "perm" word before kai dao and there's no confusion? 3. "Mai narn, sarm wi bpap" I know "mai narn" is not long and "bpap" is momentarily or shortly but what what does "sarm wi" mean? Thank you. I think the part where you have the simulated conversation is a great idea.

    • @letslearnthai
      @letslearnthai  4 года назад +2

      1. I'm afraid I don't get the question.
      2. It's a repeating of an order, so we can just say the keywords.
      3. 'sarm wi' means 3 seconds. 'wi' is shorten from 'wi-nar-tee' which mean seconds. It's like you say 'wait a sec'.

    • @troy5731
      @troy5731 4 года назад

      @@letslearnthai 1. At 2:42 you use "ror" as "wait". At 4:18 you use "ror" ( instead of reuu, ruuhr, reu or luuhr ) as a question word is that correct?
      2. I understand you're repeating an order, but to an English speaker learning Thai "perm" would seem to be a keyword as without it you might think the person is listing another thing they DON'T "mai sai" want added....So if in Thai language it's obvious that in this context "perm" can be left out, that is something you might consider emphasizing.
      3. OK, so saying "3 seconds" (sarm wi) is a Thai way of saying "just a sec". Thanks!
