- MIG Welding Metal Project Shelf Bracket Bookends. This week we are fabricating bookends that could also be used as shelf brackets using a scrap motorcycle sprocket and some 2" flat bar. Last week I fabricated a metal and wood floating corner shelf so I decided to add some custom book ends. This is a fun DIY How To beginner welding project that would make a great gift.

Very nice Brandon, the best part is years from now when your grandson has something from his grandfather. I am 82 and I only have two items saved from my Baba who made many items in the forties for me, I only wish I had saved them all. Really enjoy all your builds.
Well said!
God bless you Mr Chuck!
It's nice to be able to refurbish old pieces into something useful or unique
I really like that creative side although I sometimes struggle for ideas
Hi Brandon, thank you for the best informative vids on RUclips, since starting out on welding not so long ago I have trolled my way through hundreds of vids on RUclips trying to get to grips on how to set up a Mig Welder and weld with one and then I found your RUclips channel and have learnt heaps of stuff that I did not get form the others. So again a big thank you.
Awww man thank you so much Peter! 🙏 I appreciate your support and kind words :)
Nice project Brandon! Your grandson will have that for years to come!
I hope so! Thank you Earl!
That's a great project and fun gift for you new grandson. It's given me ideas about what to do with an old flexplate. Thanks!!
Thats a great idea Ronald! That would make a great shelf bracket due to its larger size
So cool! That is one lucky grandson! Well done!
Thanks Steven :)
That is so cool, Brandon! He will have those and the shelf (maybe) for years to come. Your Great Grandkids might even have the pleasure. Keep up the good work. I wish I lived closer, I found two 7 gallon out of date propane tanks for $5.00 and am planning on making another aerator. I would just give you one. Something to maybe look for in your area, if you are interested!!! Be well, be safe, and keep on welding!!! We (all of us) do so enjoy your work!
Thank you so much Jim and that's a great idea for the aerator! I appreciate your support! 🙏
nice book ends hope all are well TANK
Thanks man I appreciate it! 🙏
Pretty cool! Thanks for your time!
Thank you!
Nice gift idea and turned out really good.
Thank you! 😊
Another COOL project. I need to make a trip to my scrap yard.
Good stuff Jimmy!
Another good idea and fun project. I do enjoy watching your videos Brandon! Thank you!
Glad you like them! Thank you!
Nice one. Perfect for my lunch time viewing. 👍🏻👍🏻
Right on buddy! Enjoy! ☕
@@BrandonLund 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for the flux core clarity. Gonna try it
Enjoy! :)
I'm loving all your videos Brandon keep them coming..
Thanks Paul I appreciate it!
Great project as always. You should consider building the Revolution 2x72 belt grinder.
It's a pretty big investment and he doesn't do a whole lot of grinding. I would love to have a 2x72 belt grinder with variable speed though. They are really kind of replacing bench grinders in a lot of shops these days. They can do everything a bench grinder can do and then some. They also take up quite a bit of space.
Every time I do a project where I radius edges I always wish I had a belt grinder. I've thought about building one. Maybe that will be in the near future. My shop is small and they take up a decent amount of space.
Nice fun little project Brandon came out nice @Brandon Lund
Thanks Antonio. I like doing these quick little projects
I also like to see you do some mig and flux core welding using 110 volts with the new Yes welder.
Thats a great suggestion! I' havent even tried it on 110 and I've been really curious. I will do some testing and get a video up. Thanks man!
Fantastic, good use for old parts that have great memories that will be passed on for generations to inspire them to keep them going. Thanks for sharing with us Brandon. Keep em coming. Fred. 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻✋🏻✋🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Thanks Fred I appreciate it!
Y got the yeswelder as my firstand learning lots from your videos, thank you.
Rock on! Your welcome :)
Always enjoy your videos, and I get great ideas for welding projects!
Awesome, thank you!
Great idea. Thank you for sharing.
You bet! Thanks for watching and commenting! @Guillermo Nieri
Grandson? You are old!..I thought that was a late baby. Very Cool 😎.
Hahahaha thanks man! Im 52...brain still thinks its 25 though lol
@@BrandonLund I am 62 My says that I act like I am 10. Guess that is not good...
Cool build.
I'm glad you like it :)
Great video, Merry Christmas 🎄
Thank you! You too! @Paul C
Ayuh..that sure is nice!
Lol Thanks!
I'd like to see you do some stick welding with your new Yes welder. I kind of want to try stick - I don't know why. 😁
Stick is by far my favorite process. I learned on an AC welder so I'm real acustomed to running 6011's. We will see how the YesWelder runs 6010.
Niveau project Brandon ! I use for cornering edges a old industrial band sander. It works great. I cant sent e picture of it here 😉
Great idea! Thanks for sharing!
Nice job Brandon . . .
Thanks Daniel! You need some of these as shelf brackets in your beautiful workshop!
@@BrandonLund Yes Sir . . . you are correct. Learning a lot from your channel about fabbing and reusing what you have . . . Merry Christmas to you and your family Sir.
Thanks Daniel and Merry Christmas!
Thank you 🙏🏼👍🏼🍺😎
You bet!
Awsome!
Thanks!
Mad Max triangle dinner bell holder...lol
Hahahahaha
How do you decide when to clamp ground to the table you are working, vs the work piece? Are there any safety concerns to be aware of when clamping to the table?
Great question! Pretty much the best bet is to attach the ground directly to your workpiece that way you are getting the proper voltage without voltage drop which will also give you nice clean starts and it will also prevent your work piece from getting arc marks from where it is trying to make contact to the table. Smaller parts that I need to manipulate a lot I will generally connect the ground to the table simply for ease of use because i'm not working around a ground lead.
Not a fan of synergic because sometimes I gotta turn the volts up in case a weld joint makes my stick out a little further than normal. Does the yes welder let you set it yourself or is it synergic all the time. Cool project. Looking to eventually get a evo metal saw too. You are kinda talking me into it.
@AJ's Iron Works it's primarily set on synergic but by toggling over to voltage you can independantly adjust your voltage in incriments of 1 volt from +9 to -9 above or below the synergic setting. I like that it;s very simple to use.
Very cool project. I’m looking for things like this for my son and I to learn and practice on. I just bought a YesWelder and I’m having trouble setting my material thickness. You said 1/8” is 3.1. This may be painfully obvious, but how do you get that conversion? Love the channel!
Lol it's all good Joe. Honestly, I struggle with this too. Google is your friend. I just type convert 1/8" to metric or even better you can do talk to text. I appreciate your support. Thank you!
Brandon, you could do the same with a flywheel or an old flex plate.
Great idea!!!
@@BrandonLund you could make book ends for the shop, or shelf brackets for more storage with the aforementioned parts.
I love that idea!
As my dad would've said
Super nice
Thanks Scott :)
I don't understand the silver streak pencils. They are almost the same color as the metal. Jimbo on Jimbo's Garage (pretty cool RUclips channel) reccomends these silver colored pencils as a cheap alternative to the silver streak. I bought some and they blend right in with the color of the metal - I lose my mark if I take my eyes off it. I like using a fine tip black sharpie or something similar to mark metal.
I agree Christopher. I have found if you keep it sharp the line is more visible. When it starts getting dull it seems like it glazes over and tends to blend with the metal like you mentioned.
Instead of felt feet... rubber will keep it from sliding from larger books
Good tip Nelson. Thank you!
Cool design 👍… what about the mounting holes, doesn’t look like you
Left any room to drill
Thanks Ruben! This is going to be a book end but if it was being used as a shelf bracket there is plenty of room to either side
First comment! Greetings Brandon from Greece!
Right on! Thanks Christos!
👍👍
Thanks!
hello
Hey 👋
Hey Brandon these are great but hey half the kids these days now be like Brandon? What are books ?
Lol true! It reminds me of when we bought our house and the previsous owners left a console record player behind. My kids saw the records and were blown away how big the "CD's" were. They had no idea what a record was or a record player lol @Alicesrustychains
@@BrandonLund I know man it’s kinda sad hate to be that guy but damn times have changed this futures got me a little worried as a guy like yourself that likes to hand craft stuff I do Harley parts and man Amazon is killing guy like me off these kids nowadays don’t appreciate a handcrafted set of apehangers or a custom crashbar for there harleys cause amazon can do it so cheap it’s sickening mind ya the quality isn’t there as we all know but yeah damn have times changed love the channel dude your killing pls keep em coming 🤘🏻💯🤘🏻
Thanks man and I couldn't agree more with your comment. What keeps me positive is things tend to come in waves and it usually gets worse before it gets better.
You gonna make any more videos?
I will at some point....probably next Friday. I'm still recovering with Covid
@@BrandonLund ahhhh ok... get well brother! I am actually waiting on my results at the moment... was sick as hell last 2 days like the flu... i should have results today... I am currently in welding school and love your videos. Now I am missing school also... Hate this crap! But again, I hope ya get well fast!
It's bad stuff! I felt "off" for a couple weeks prior then spiked a sudden high temp then just felt like crap for a while. Rest up and drink plenty of water to flush that garbage out of you. I found that nyquil helped for sleep and i poped some Zinc, vitamin b and c in the mornings. Rest up and I hope you feel better soon 🙏👊
