I'll say it again, because Tom likes to ignore this fact on his videos, he's a master procrastinator. Not saying he doesn't do the thing, it's that he always waits till the last minute to do a task. And sometimes that bites him in the ass 😂
It’s good to see you onsite talking about the gate house I can’t Waite to see how it progresses,inToms vlog tonight he has made great progress on the floor and found more stone but it looks like there is more about. Loved the vlog.xx
Lots of work to come and looking forward to seeing all of it! If possible would love in depth discussions on the mechanics of stabilizing, the tools used, the material for the joinery, the nerd stuff.
I honestly thought that building was beyond saving when I first saw it. Fair play to you guys, you obviously have a high level of craftsmanship to restore it. I was thinking you would just level the height of the stone work and build fresh walls on the interior, using the stone as a second, exterior decorative wall and then build up a floor and put some sort of rustic cladding on it to tie it in.
I've shared ideas with Brad and honestly it sounds like what he has to come is brilliant, some ideas have matched up so I'm excited to see what he has in mind, I think (mum kinda disagrees as it's a shift from the old style) but it would be beneficial just to extend the home upwards giving extra height for another floor and making it liveable for someone like Upton. I've seen examples that use a black timber facade and I think that's a brilliant way to go so that the bricks stick out more than the updated segments. I even think a little bit of an extension to the side could work too so that the bricks from the wall on the right side would be used to extend the length and that black wood facade or new brick face can be added to the end facing outwards leading into what could be an outer area of the hq. This would also mean you can keep the height as one floor, add an insulated roof and have a more cabin feel. If this isn't the forever home and Toms installing the unit on the land then I think keep this old and simple, keep your lands wood and use it for this home.
Also a relative of mine works with facade & material manufacturers etc, let me know if you could use a connection because he can likely send you to the right people and materials or directly through them.
hi chris, since i started watching tom on the 110 i have wondered about the depth you could dig in the gate house and building areas b4 you hit water, imagine a wine cellar/rootcellar,or bunker :D plus bury the huge water store outside collecting water from roof. i'm no builder just full of bright ideas :D
Hi mate been looking forward to this for some time now haha. For all the lintel replacements, I’d do needles and props pal. You can raise all lintels to desired height. With the shite ground to prop off you could reverse needle to and just install big stone lintels to keep it all looking authentic. This heavy duty propping is what I do for a job I’m a local lad living in Hyde and happy to help where I can.
@chrisoffroads I did mean like pavement slabs to walk on btw, I might have come across abit to strange then lol be a good little thing towards the house ect when you all get round to it.
I HAD ONE JOB & I DID IT!!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Smashed it bro 💪🔥
