Another great Scottish singer
She sings this so effortlessly she makes it look easy but it really isn't an easy song to deliver.
I had just moved to Nottingham from Chicago and went to a pub called the Admiral Duncan. I was talking to a nice housewife (so I thought) at the bar when the DJ came on to introduce the nights entertainment. The kind “housewife” said, “Oh, excuse me.” And went to the stage to start belting out her numbers. It wasn’t until she got to this song that she sang to perfectly to be a cover version that I’d been speaking to a disco diva.
A real sweetheart deserving of her success. Would love to meet her again.
Is that the one in Carrington? If it was, I was probably there.
The odd thing is, she's from the same town as me.
Fun True Fact - Written by Ray Dorset of Mungo Jerry, the song was originally intended for Elvis Presley but he died before it could be submitted to him.
First time I heard that I didn't believe it but it is true!
True
never knew that.
This is a certified UK banger
Love this song !!! Was my favorite dancersize / dance aerobics workout song and even got my kids into it too ! Y'all are such a bright spot in my day...everyday ! Thank you both
I made the same faces you guys made when I first listened to this song and watched the video. Super catchy song, great singer's voice and looks, and fun backup dancers. 1980 was still disco!
Great Scottish Disco singer, one of the great dance songs at the end of the Disco era that got to number one in the UK in August 1980.
Yes. From Paisley in Renfrewshire.
wow this takes me right back. Love it, thanks for reacting to this song.
Omg I forgot about this song..thank you❤❤🎵🎵
I've always loved this song. One of my favourite Disco style numbers
She had another big dance hit with Make Love To Me. Enjoy your reactions
That single Make Love To Me I think it was in big in Australia when it got released
the midwife was singing this as I was giving birth to my son 27 august 1980. It was no one in the charts the week after.
I love this song! Check out her other hit, Love Trial. It’s a great jam, you won’t regret it.
such an underrated song
it's a joke? It was number 1 in the UK and the third best-selling song of the year! In fact, it was a worldwide hit!
It feels like I'm in love with this song! OMG! YASSS!
Seen her in newcastle late 80s brilliant voice
I just wish she would smile more , its such a great fun song and those lovely guys, heck , they would make me smile .!!!!☆
Ha! Jump on the time machine in 1959 next stop the disco dance floor!
I was a teen in the 80's and loved my music but I have never heard of her ever. LOL
Same. I thought she might be Teena Marie's sister at first. LMAO
@@loristone9242 lol
It was very early 80's. So maybe you were a bit young. Practically the 70s. A 70s disco sound. Written in 1976/77 by a British song writer, the guy from mungo jerry (in the summer time) with Elvis in mind but Elvis died before he sent it.
Big song in the discos and roller rinks. It comes in a 12 inch extended version.
I was in the roller rink every weekend and I have never heard of her lol, one hit wonder?
This song is a staple at any disco I've been to growing up. Weddings, birthday, works parties.
Another is Tiger Feet by Mud. I'd highly recommend it. And Hi Ho Silver Lining by Jeff Beck. Come On Eileen by Dexys Midnight Runners as well.
Throughout the years they have been blended inbetween any current chart music.
There's a version with horns in it too. That's the ones they played in the clubs in the 80's
I have never heard of her or the song but it was fun. I loved her kick. Saucy!...I looked her up. She was Scottish. And she has a pretty.fun song called hot love.
Paisley in Scotland. Good singer.
Can remember watching the music video when I was four & laughing at her & the gay sailor dudes dancing around London.
Check out Kelly Marie "Hot Love" and Lime "Your Love" and Babe, We're Gonna Love Tonight"
Flashback to the 70s
No relation to Teena Marie lol Kelly loved your reaction to her song xxxxxx
Gay disco.
I am 64.
At 23. My friends and I used to dance to this song.
The Village Station (gay club) played fun dancing music.
You need to listen to.
Tina Turner Shame Shame Shame
No duets just by herself(Tina)
Another song we used to dance to.
You should listen to her song New York at Night
Huge song in Philly
brings back memories from the 80's... no she's not related to Tina Arena (from what I know), as Tina is from Australia and Kelly is from Scotland (I think).
Great song, take me right back to my teenage years 😊. If you want to check out some great synth pop from the 80’s I would definitely recommend Enola Gay by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark.
You guys should react to "Disco Disco a Gentleman"
Kelly Marie had a string of hits in Britain in the early 80s. Interestingly, this Record was originally released in 1978 and didn't even make the Chart! However; two years later, in 1980, she shot to Number One with this Song on its second release and had tremendously high Record sales, they had to go to a bigger record Company to keep up with demand for the Single!
Check out Teena Marie "Lover Girl".
Not much of a rabbit hole with this one, unfortunately. This was pretty much a one-hit wonder for Kelly Marie.
