A hit for Tina in 1976 (I was 12 years old). We danced to this one every night at the Youth club. Tina had another hit that same year with " Dance Little Lady Dance"
I Love to Love was Tina Charles's first hit under her own name...and a UK number 1,in the spring of 1976. The biggest of the other hits she had afterwards were Dance Little Lady and Dr Love. Hearing this song again in recent times, the strength of her vocals stands out to me more than I appreciated at the time these were hits. I can say the same for some of the Three Degrees' songs.
SO Happy y’all are listening to this gem! Tina is one of my favorite 70s artists! Other songs of hers to definitely listen to are “dance little lady,” “you set my heart on fire,” “dr. Love,” and with her band 5000 volts “I’m on fire” and “bye love”!!! Lots of love to both you guys!!!
OMG - This brings back memories! I used to go regularly to a South London nightclub in the 70s. I was madly in love with a guitarist of the resident group that played there. Tina Charles, who is from London, used to go to this nightclub. On new year's eve 1976, she was invited to sing this song on stage. She married 'my' guitarist- arghh!
One thing that is so nice on here are the reactions from all over the world, showing the impact music has to all of us, uniting us for a minute or four. This gem of a disco song was huge in Germany too. Never get tired of listening to Tina letting those notes out. Have a good day you all.
I feel like I’ve died and went to heaven! This is a favorite from my childhood. She is a classic example of fine British disco! I think I suggested this a while back. Please review her follow-up “I’ll go Where Your Music Takes Me”
Tina Charles' breakthrough song was DANCE LIL LADY DANCE. It was a banger back in the day (the mid 70s) It was a HUGE hit here in India as it was compossed by an Indian - Biddu.
I love how this channel puts the highlight on old classic songs such as this. Tina Charles was a talented vocalist who worked as a session musician for many years so was always "behind the scenes" rather than being in the public eye. She had her debut recording "Good To Be Alive" back in 1969 with an unknown Elton John playing piano for her and she was a backing vocalist (together with her friend Linda Lewis) on the Cockney Rebel's "Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)" Congrats guys on your amazing videos. You two are like the sunshine coming out on a cloudy day.
Tina Charles - a London girl. Two other British female vocalists from the seventies - Janet Kay who had a massive hit in 1979 with Silly Love and Joan Armatrading, a fantastic singer-guitarist-composer who had countless hits but the one that started it all off was Love and Affection
Produced by Biddu Appiah, an Ivor Novello award winning, British-Indian singer-songwriter, composer, and music producer. He conducted his own ‘production-based orchestra’ and helped launch hers, and many others’ careers in the 70’s. He also produced the breakthrough disco hit from 1974 by Carl Douglas - Kung Fu Fighting…
OMG - such memories. 1976, living in Nairobi, Kenya at an 8th Grade Disco party dancing under the stars, and someone played this song, and we collectively lost it. What a great song and great memory. #Disco1976
This girl and voice got around as you can see below. She also backed 'Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel' in 'Come Up And See Me (Make Me Smile)', with Linda Lewis another solo disco singer made good..
Massive, massive hit back in the day, booming out of our radios several times a day, and guaranteed to fill the dance floors. Makes me feel old when I read the comments saying they've never heard it before, but at least I've got all my memories.
Previously had a hit with group 5000 Volts (I'm on Fire) further hits with Dance little lady dance, You set my heart on fire, I'll go where the music takes me, Dr Love..
Of course you havent. They only take requests from their British Patreon on fans. This channel lost many people a long time ago with obscure songs that reflect nothing.
@@auldfouter8661 agreed. There's a tonne of music the yanks haven't heard of, but try to tell them 😐🥱 This was a big hit in Australia too. Still have the 45.
She had a few hits, her first two was with the band '5000 Volts' with "I'm On Fire" and "Dr Kiss Kiss", as a solo artist, "Dance Little Lady Dance" and "Dr Love", she had other songs but these were her biggest.
Thank you ..thank you so much for this reaction....I wanted it for so long..I am glad you liked her. Tina Charles was the queen of disco for a while in many countries..competing with Donna Summer and all the big names she shined ..we loved all her hits...much much love to you and your family..
Fallin' in love in the summertime is another of my favourite songs from her. I listened to a lot of her songs when I lived in Peru, there were many radio stations (and they still are I believe) that played her songs and songs of the 60', 70', 80', etc. This song I love to love I really loved when I was a kid, her pitch is like a child and I was a child so I imagine myself singing that song and doing Karaoke with my siblings, i did not see what she looked like many years later. Good times 😊
The first time I heard of Tina Charles was with the song "You set my heart on fire". It made a big impression on me. Love to love is also a good song, but my memories mainly go to "You set my heart on fire".
Thank you so much for this reaction guys! I was waiting a long time for this. If you liked this one, you should listen to "You Set My Heart On Fire" too, it's another great song from Tina Charles.
I never heard this song back in the day…it wasn’t until I watched the British crime series River with Stellan Skarsgård and Nicola Walker that it crossed my path. I really loved it and was very excited to see your reaction to it when I saw your RUclips notification this eve. Thanks for picking this song:) ❤
One of my childhood favourites...That famous disco guitar sound and a little trivia; when Tina Charles recorded her first single, among the hired musicians was a certain, back then, unknown Elton John on piano..
I used to go to Cinderella's in Purley, Surrey every weekend. Once when this song was everywhere Tina was at the club and I remember her singinng this dong live st the club, she sounded even better live. Lovely memory of my younger days in the 70''s 🏴
She sings a song for the group 5000 Volts called 'I'm on Fire' and her vocals there are fantastic. She's got a real rasp to her voice on that track when she kicks it into gear.
This was her biggest hit by far - great vocal - she was uncredited on the 5000 volts song I'm on Fire due to contractural reasons and that's probably the next best one to look at next time. She did backing vocals on Come up and see me and make me smile along with Linda Lewis - Linda's Rock a Doodle doo worth a review
Half a million any day now... congrats!!! You have been pleasantly bringing good vibes to my evenings since Amber was still pregnant! Thanks! Now this brought me back to when I was 16... still a few years before hitting the clubs and Discos. Mark Morrison with "Return of the Mack" is a song I just heard and you might enjoy... from 1996, I think.
Another great vocalist from around the same time as Tina Charles, & also huge in the UK, was Linda Lewis. Like Tina, she was a real 'Disco-Queen', & had the most incredible voice! Her biggest hit was a cover of 'The shoop shoop song (it's in his kiss)' The wonderfully theatrical 'I'd be surprisingly good for you' She also charted with 'Rock a doodle do'! She performed backing vocals with many of the biggest stars in the music business too, like Bowie, Cat Stevens, Rod Stewart, & Joan Armatrading. Sadly, she passed away recently, at the age of 72, but those of us who were around in the early 70's will always remember that beautiful big voice, coming out of that tiny little girl from Essex!! 😍
This song has helped me so much over the years….I can be having the day from hell and be mega stressed then I’ll hear this song on the radio and by the end of the song I just feel soooo happy👍🏼
This song is great! I also love the Nolans' I'm in the mood for dancing. If you haven't check it out yet, please do so. Love you both! More power and God bless.
I first heard this song on the British tv miniseries “River” and fell in love with it. It’s actually my husband (of 40 years) ringtone! It’s fun, easy to listen to, and describes my hubby well 😆
I remember being rather smitten with Tina Charles when I saw her performance on one particular edition of, 'Top of the Pops.' I'm not sure whether it was this song, or her other big hit, 'Dance Little Lady Dance.' This style of music was quite popular in the middle part of the 70's, when Glam Rock was on the wane and Disco hadn't quite got going. There's definitely elements of it here, but it hasn't quite been perfected to the sound that would become known as full-on disco. I remember other songs by her, like, 'Love Bug', and, 'Dr. Love.'
She was a great session musician, being on a lot of 70's hits, and thankfully she had success for herself. I had a little crush on her in my early teens.
I'm so lucky to have been born when I was [1961], to experience all this good music from the 50's-90's [and one or two from the 00's-20's]. “River” was the first time that I ever heard it and it stood out
Never heard this little cutie sing before, I bet her voice got even better with age.👍👏👏👏🥰🌺🌹
She was quite big in Australia in the 70’s with a string of hits
She was HUGE in UK. She also went to my school, though few years ahead of me. But Tina could belt it out.
She has a great voice! Not heard of her before. ✌
She had a handful of hits in Europe and New Zealand, but for whatever reason never charted in the US.
Very prominent in Australia also.
In The Netherlands this was a big 70's song/hit too. They even released a newer version of this song somewhere in the 80's.
BILLBOARD HAS INCLUDED ONLY AMERICANS PERFORMERS IN DISCO TOP 40 HITS IN ALL THE DISCO YEARS, TINA WAS EXCLUDED UNFAIRLY!!!
