Great video guys, agree with the Spotlights being the top insert in Bowman, really glad they brought it back for 2024. Last year's Topps X J-Rod set had an anime art insert with a much cleaner design than the Bowman set imo. The other Bowman inserts don't do anything for me but I am glad that we're getting at least 1 banger insert design per set.
Chris here - yeah I’m excited romeee some Spotlight cards hit eBay and get a good look at them. Too good a design to be common. Glad they made the change. Thanks for watching!
You guys hit the nail on the head here - As an individual collector, I just can't quantify buying hobby boxes of a product like this. (Pretty frustrating) I buy some 2024 Topps Heritage Monster/Giant at $50 a box and feel bad. Can't imagine 2024 Bowman price and the feeling afterwards....First thought always is "I could have bought X for that amount" ALWAYS
Great episode, boys! It really puts things into perspective when you spoke at the end about what products you could get at a similar price point to this product. Seems to me that there are many better ways to spend your money, even if you’re gonna buy wax instead of singles.
Anime is at least a notably different and artistic insert for me. Similar to downtowns, blank slates, color blasts and color wheels. For me, the hallmark of a good case hit insert is a an appealing look, rarity, and not having a big bold title that tells you why it’s important. Probably why we all like Spotlight too. Thanks for the video!
I gotta say, the Green Grass refractors are awesome! I started collecting them when they debuted last year of all my favorite players, simply look great in hand.
This is not a throw away comment. I definitely get the concept of legacy and therefore the true refd, goldd anf blues being special. But over time and with dilution here to stay if the aesthetics of one of these "strange" parallels is nevertheless clearly superior to look at and handle, that starts to factor in to the perceivef. Though i bought a true orange - i believe that that is all there was - of 2015 bc aaron nola Freakishly gorgeous card. No clutter, lots of space taken up by the orange and crisp clear unobstructed refractor quality. Even the frost area melds well with the card.

I like the chase collection challenge that Topps put out. I can see this is something Fanatics wants to use bring to the hobby. Chris' rectal refractor might just make it in the next Garbage Pail Kids set.
Just for the heck of it i'll give some results oriented numbers. I paid $175 in a random team break for a 12 box Bowman Hobby. I wound up with the White Sox. I hit the Rikuu Nishida /499. I actually beat the odds since 12 box case returns 36 autos with probably 2/3. or 24 non numbered. I hit a few numbered non auto white sox. Value perhaps $50. I did a jumbo case pick your team and bought white sox and royals for $225. Beat the odds again and hit true gold on Samad Taylor. Again a few other numbered non auto and a Wolkow base rc auto. Value perhaps $75. Final break was pick your team case jumbo. I took Carfinals and Rangers. Cost $300. Skunked on Cardinals ($50) hoping for Gibson of course. Nothing to expect prosprct wise from Cardinals so the $50 is all in hoprs of Gibson. I hit the Walcott out of /499 and an Adolis Garcia 1/1 non signed printing plate. Value perhaps $150 more like $125. My team choices significantly limited potential from the insert sets. Hit wise i beat the odds by a lot and return is $250 on an outlay of $700. Extrapolating from my numbers on any given break i'd say the return value is 15% to 20%. If we allow value for the numbered non autos we can push this to 25% to 30%. To put this in perspective from another vantage point the same breaker is doing a 100 case pick your player break. George Lombard is $20k to join the break. Assuming 3000 autos, 2/3 of which will be non numbered, and assuming Lombard red at $20k, orange at $7,500, gold at $4k, yellow at $2,500, green at $1500, blue at $1000, purple $750, purple base ref /499 at $500, and non numbered auto at $250 unless one hits the red even if one beats the odds by a long shot return would be around $5k to $7500 and a floor of $1000 or less. One final point here i want to return to rc autos and long term value from other sets. I paid $550 for a yamamote from chrome black. Print run /150. His base auto which looks to be a minimum of 3000 print possibly 5000 based on hoe often it comes out is sellng for $600. It will drop in a week or two. Out of /499 is $1000. In twenty years time assuming yamamoto has any value (in that regard the argument works for other names) the market will factor in dilution in bow chro and value short print run auto rc's from other sets. My choice of chrome black could be singularly wrong but the point is as dilution increased in bowman chrome perceived value in other sets will increase for the best names. For those who become irrelevant regardless of set all value is gone.
I get what you’re going for here. Worth noting that while the prospect auto parallels rainbow has hit 20+, the rookie auto rainbow sits at 8. Collectors will gravitate to Yamamoto’s first bowman chrome autograph - like they do with Ohtani - and these cards will definitely outsell most of his other rookie autos in the long king run. IMO. Thanks for the price breakdown on your breaks. Looks like the base Yamamoto auto is selling around $700. Blues are over $1k for that dodgers color match. Looks like a nice card. Thanks for watching!
I actually like the rc colors for the reason you mention. Cogitating the purchase of a rafaela /25 for $250 for that reason. I have a couple 1sts of him and those were much more expensive to acquire.
We ripped a case of blasters last night at my LCS, 8 autos , 7 of them were paper sticker autos. Nothing big was pulled. We also opened 3 jumbos and 2 hobby. The owner pulled a Luciano gladiator. But overall from that small sample size it was pretty awful.
I don’t see prices going up too much. At least I don’t see them staying that high in the near future. Will be plenty of buying opportunities on wax down the road on this one. These prices don’t make sense. 2022 and 2020 bowman hobbies are 50-60$ cheaper then 2024. Much better rip and has some big time established stars in both.
They should have numbered the 1958 bowman design to that year they need to add more case hit chase cards plus a first bowman auto patch card would be awesome.
Chris here - yeah a first bowman auto patch card (maybe the jersey from draft night?) would be a huge chase. Really the only way a baseball RPA could compete with first bowman chrome autos. Thanks for watching!
i agree with phil , i hate hta . they are selling the best cards they took out of the other formats !!!!!!! we are left with a pack of inserts and base with a few hits spread out to far
I loved getting more hits in the packs last year, but after I pulled them I didn't really care about 99% of them. Whether you think there are too many parallels or not, the names are weird and gimmicky. I do like what they did with the Spotlights. The older players Bowman 1st autos is cool imo, rather pull that than 99% of the other autos. The problem is that if they do get popular, eventually there will be 100 old guy 1st autos in the product.
The important thing I've learned about Bowman is that nobody knows anything about these kids, so opening it right away is just a fools errand as a fan of a team. I definitely stay away from any parallels that aren't solid blue or gold or refractor. What will collectors want down the road is always on my mind.
If i'm purely speculating and depending upon prices im liking true blue or true gold. Waves and shimmers seems like the multipliers are diminishing. True blue is easily the equal of green grass and approaching gold wave and shimmer. If i really think i know something depending upon price true orange. Reds are so expensive atb that im priced out.
Chris here - I also think the wave prices are falling and demand for the true colors is rising. Collectors are being more discerning and I love to see it. (Until I pull a wave auto).
I am TOTALLY ok with Bowman giving RARE inserts a try, in fact, if they want to create demand and NOT water down the base refractor list this is exactly what they should do...create kick a&s inserts that are hard to pull yet quit adding all these refractor autos! Bowman needs to go back to just true color refractor autos and then continue with these cool design SP inserts as the chance.
Chris here - there are soooo many parallels in here that will just have no value down the road. So many boxes with shiny nonsense as their “hits.” It’s a shame because so many people will get burned ripping this.
I think the design could have been much better. I think it looks like Topps Gallery from a few years back. I agree on the parallels. Too many. But then again, look at the number of parallels in Panini Prizm. Of course, I will be chasing the Brewers autos.
@SpitballinCards I do a bit of both. I'll grab a few spots in breaks mainly in the hope of getting a big card or two. Whatever autos I miss, about a month later I'll pick them up. My goal is to get a blue refractor auto or better of every Brewer prospect.
Am I crazy to think it makes sense as in investment card to maybe buy the Topps Black? Currently everyone is going to pay more for the Bowman Chrome or Topps Chrome cause thats what everyone thinks is the investment, so its priced it. But sometimes that stuff flips. I feel like finest USED to be the big thing, then Chrome overtook it. Who knows what happens with Topps Black.
Chris here - I love the topps black parallels. Best flagship parallels. Nothing crazy about them AT ALL! Rare, numbered, condition sensitive - fantastic combination.
To fight previous years over production, They run 1 million limited print variations. Lol. Still overall market dilution and value killer. Instead of 100 orange, you have 99 orange shimmer, 25 orange refractor, 399 orange parallel, 599 orange. Then the same exact cards with autos. Mass production at its finest
I’m pretty sure Pete Rose hasn’t been with Topps Since 1989. In general In person autos will always be substantially cheaper then pack pulled autos. Pete rose cars. Especially the Superfractor auto will go for BIG MONEY.
Chris here - if it’s just to rip with a friend over some cocktails, I’d usually say Stadium club chrome. My favorite product. I’d probably buy some 2020 boxes. We ripped a few regular stadium club boxes this year. It’s fun and not so expensive that getting nothing ruins your month. I can’t spend $300-500 on a box knowing full well there’s nothing of any value inside. Just can’t do it.
Us regulars in the Hobby just call it “Pink Lunar”… 😂…. 2024 Bowman CHANGES: Parallel• Platinum 1/1 Refractor• BLACK Refractor: out of /10 ROSE GOLD Mini Diamond: out of /10 Insert• RISING INFERNO Bowman A.I Bowman Bloom (FlowerPot🌸 design) Prospect Power Up (Pinball Design) Rest is same as 2023…
Chris here - not sure what you’re asking. For The codes on the back, the last 3-4 digits are usually the ones that matter. What are you looking for specifically?
@@corykristy2594 the codes are mostly important to determine if you have an image variation from Topps/topps chrome. I don’t think there’s anything in bowman where the codes are important.
@@corykristy2594 from i can tell, all the cards end in 3089, and there are no image variations. So for 2024 Bowman, the codes don’t matter. So don’t worry about it.
I think the prospects in Draft seem to perform better as a group. The international guys who feature more heavily in Bowman do not go as well as a group but may have that one really big name come out. 2017 Acuna, 2019 J Rod, 2020 BWJ( holdover from Draft) 2022 Elly, 2023 Caminero? It's just a feeling really. They have improved the number of 1stBowman cards that you get in Bowman and Bowman chrome. In 2018 only 20% of cards were 1sts. I seem to have recouped more money back from Draft than from Bowman. I don't really rip it much now. 2022 Bowman I ripped a jumbo and two hobbies and got absolutely hosed. Only one base chrome Elly from that and a Marcelo Mayer insert auto was the best auto of five autos. Really rough. I would have been better off buying 2022 Draft.
I'll just wait for Topps Chrome. Should be loaded checklist plus MVP buybacks so why waste money on this product? The odds have gotten worse and the prices are too high. This will be the first time since 2017 that I'll be skipping Bowman. I used to love stashing wax of it. Miss getting Jumbos for $289 back in 2018.
I am at the point where I love watching videos like this but I just cant be opening wax its so not worth it anymore. don't get me wrong its fun but unless you are so lucky you will never profit. I really like buying a slab or singles I bought a sick mookie betts 2014 topps update rookie oncard auto bgs authentic for a little more then the price of one of these hobby boxes.
Why print less if people keep buying packs? I’m all for card makers printing more cards. Allow collectors to get the cards they want without all the investors, speculators, resellers driving the price up to some insane amount.
Chris here - you’re right. If the demand is there, fanatics isn’t going to stop. If they want more customers, they need to make more cards. As collectors, We just have to realize that kite cards doesn’t necessarily mean more cards with value.
😂😂 if all these guys got paid what rose got paid, I bet they’d be better! But you’re right - some of these prospect autos are just terrible. Put a tiny bit of effort in!!
@@smartluck100 Players back in the day signed their full name and had actual jobs in the off season...These guys today just initial the card and show zero respect for the same people who are the reason they are multi millionaires or will be....No excuses
I view this Bowman set strictly as a search and sell the big name autograph cards ASAP. Since I'm strictly a collector (mostly veterans or HOFers), i have little to no interest in this set. The price of a jumbo box ($600) is kind of crazy. I'm more interested in Chrome cards and the higher end sets (Sapphire, Gilded, Diamond icons, definitive, even platinum anniversary, etc)
@@SpitballinCardsHmmm....never really thought about that. It is very popular and beautiful cards. I even bought my niece and nephew a box of 2022 Topps sapphire Garbage Pail Kids and was a huge success with them.
Phil looks like he's stewing. Definitely underwhelming card design and the refractor checklist volume is terrible. More than ever it seems to be: singles only, and maybe Bowman Draft...but holding my breath there too.
@@SpitballinCards Hi Chris…I ended up buying 10 singles…All are top Bowman Chrome 1st prospects from 2023 Draft and 2024 Baseball. Saved a bunch of cash. If retail remains overpriced, will continue this strategy. Topps/Fanatics is pushing collectors out of the market for retail.
Pretty much agree with the addict. I would say Red/Orange/Gold/Blue. Maybe Green. Maybe. That's it. You guys are being too hard on the new parallels. I hear the 'lunar glow' refracts when you take it on the moon. If you pull one of those, they let you get in touch with Elon Musk.
you cant keep your cake and eat it too, lol. if you want to hit a parallel at an affordable price then you have to accept dozens of parallels. no way around that. if you want less parellels then you can't have them in every box at an affordable price. if you want print runs to come down so less parallels hit more often then high box prices remove opportunity for resell. acceptance seems unavoidable if you hope to stay connected to the hobby.
Chris here - I totally understand this, but it means I’m not ripping. I’ll be happy to buy the parallel I want from whoever is lucky enough to pull it. Maybe it’s costs more then the box, maybe not. But I’ll be happy with knowing I got the card I wanted.
Love the Bowman releases more than any of the other baseball products but this year's design is 'orrible. It looks like a die-cut pasted onto a full card. The extra parallel creep is also depressing. They could just bulk the product out with more base autos - especially of the good names - rather than more shades of green yellow and purple. Three different greens /99 is awful. "Grass Green" refractor is so lame it should sell for less than a refractor /499. However, the steady increase in insert autos is the real killer dilution wise. A numbered insert auto /99 of a top name is still a fairly meh card. Cheers for the run down. P.S. If someone signs outside that whopping white space in the bottom third of the card they are taking the piss.
I received 2024 bc auto true green. The refractor quality is very diminished and the green is very sparse taking up a ridiculously small amount of space around the border. The base refractor /499 have a better aedthetic as do the weird color flavors, the latter being pooh poohef for the dilution they bringnto the set. The "true" colors suck.
I won't be buying, price to high and checklist of autos and parallels is dilutive. Just too many options. I agree with all about Breakers taking away the joy of ripping a box, pushing up prices etc etc. However I don't have a problem with Breakers. I'm a free market guy, so I'm looking forward to the Breakers dumping cards on the market causing a fire sale.
Chris here - this is true. I rather wait and buy the singles I want, but I need somebody to rip the product so those cards can hit the market. Thanks for watching and commenting!
i work at a baseball card shop and i have to enter the information of whatever parallel color/refractor of the cards and its a pain in the ass with all these stupid made up colors. aqua lava????
"....it adds a weird and cheapened element to it (Bowman).... T-Pott - I couldn't agree more. They've gone Star Wars with it........ Bowman should be the Flagship product. It should be a core product based on strength of brand. I agree that these ridiculous color versions are making it more and more low end. 3 Green versions? Really? Even when they had only 1 Green, it was the color that most dreaded. Some like it, but for the most part, Green is the Red Headed Step Child. Now there are two more versions of this? Very unfortunate.
Chris here - it’s extremely unfortunate. And it makes ripping a few boxes almost impossible financially. The odds are even more stacked against us. Buying singles makes more sense every year. Thanks for watching!
I developed a price guide for US coins 1792 to the present. Coins are graded on a universally adopted scale from 1 to 70, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50. 53, 55, 58 and 60 through 70 in 1 point increments. Copper coins in addition to the assigned numbers starting at 60 can be brown, red and brown and full red. And on and on and on. Technology being what it is Topps should include either a complete unique identifier and/or establish a database so that speckles and sparkles are distinguished by the unique identifier.
The only obvious truly generational talent going back to 2010 is Ohtani. And even his base auto's might be priced out as an investment. Witt at $600 is far from a lock at that price.
Cards is not a hobby anymore!!!! Its a business! Its not even fun anymore and i hate saying that. But there ruining the market i think by all theses autos and with the flood of inserts knobodys cares about base anymore! Its a shame!!!

I think the design could have been much better. I think it looks like Topps Gallery from a few years back. I agree on the parallels. Too many. But then again, look at the number of parallels in Panini Prizm. Of course, I will be chasing the Brewers autos.
Do you Chase them right away or wait and see if any of the prospects make it?
@SpitballinCards I do a bit of both. I'll grab a few spots in breaks mainly in the hope of getting a big card or two. Whatever autos I miss, about a month later I'll pick them up. My goal is to get a blue refractor auto or better of every Brewer prospect.
@@TheProfessorsDugout I hope some of them make it big!
I feel like there was a topps soccer product with a mystery redemption. Then they announced it was Messi and box prices went nuts.
Also a big fan of the rectalfractor
Am I crazy to think it makes sense as in investment card to maybe buy the Topps Black? Currently everyone is going to pay more for the Bowman Chrome or Topps Chrome cause thats what everyone thinks is the investment, so its priced it. But sometimes that stuff flips. I feel like finest USED to be the big thing, then Chrome overtook it. Who knows what happens with Topps Black.
Chris here - I love the topps black parallels. Best flagship parallels. Nothing crazy about them AT ALL! Rare, numbered, condition sensitive - fantastic combination.
Bought a jumbo from pre order but man this appears to be a bit underwhelming. Prob going to sell my jumbo. Idk
Sell!
Only time will tell, right? A couple top ten picks in there.
But if you can cash out, I probably would too.
The refractor rainbow is getting so brutal.
Gold or bust if you really believe in the player.
I’m pretty sure Pete Rose hasn’t been with Topps Since 1989.
In general In person autos will always be substantially cheaper then pack pulled autos.
Pete rose cars. Especially the Superfractor auto will go for BIG MONEY.
Chris here - I think you’re right. He’s got a lot of passionate fans.
And he’s been back in the news lately with the Ippei gambling story.
So what product are you guys buying if you are opening cards? Bowman draft/stadium club?
Chris here - if it’s just to rip with a friend over some cocktails, I’d usually say Stadium club chrome. My favorite product. I’d probably buy some 2020 boxes.
We ripped a few regular stadium club boxes this year. It’s fun and not so expensive that getting nothing ruins your month.
I can’t spend $300-500 on a box knowing full well there’s nothing of any value inside. Just can’t do it.
Yeah boy
Yeeaahhhhh boi!

Us regulars in the Hobby just call it “Pink Lunar”… 😂….
2024 Bowman CHANGES:

Rest is same as 2023…
At least they brought back the black refractor. Those look great!
Thanks for watching and thanks for info!
I cant find any info on what the cmp code is on back! I read last 3 numbers are all that matters but never tell me what it is. Could u help me?
Chris here - not sure what you’re asking. For The codes on the back, the last 3-4 digits are usually the ones that matter.
What are you looking for specifically?
@SpitballinCards what last 3 identity so I know what I have
@@corykristy2594 the codes are mostly important to determine if you have an image variation from Topps/topps chrome.
I don’t think there’s anything in bowman where the codes are important.
@@corykristy2594 from i can tell, all the cards end in 3089, and there are no image variations. So for 2024 Bowman, the codes don’t matter. So don’t worry about it.
@SpitballinCards that's what I'm trying to figure out if it's a sp,ssp, ect.........
I much prefer Draft these days. You get more money back over time as more of the checklist pans out.
💯
Don’t you mean “IF” the checklist pans out?
Or do you think in general prospects from draft sets do better?
@@GoDonaldGO cool, thanks for the feedback.
I think philmington agree with you
I'll just wait for Topps Chrome.
Can’t argue with any of this.
Topps chrome could be absolutely loaded with rookies. Excited to see the checklist.
You think Holliday will make it in?
@@SpitballinCardsI bet they put Honey Nut Chourio in and save Holliday for Update. We shall see
@@chrisc4264 maybe they’ll make Holliday an SP and forget to include him!

May as well start working on it now!
EXACTLY
I’m with you, the design looks a little underwhelming.
Its not as bad as Donruss Baseball
@@sp123 that’s a very low bar!
LEEEROY JEEENKINS
😂😂😂
Can Bowman hire Pete Rose to give autograph lessons to some of these prospects?
😂😂 if all these guys got paid what rose got paid, I bet they’d be better!
But you’re right - some of these prospect autos are just terrible. Put a tiny bit of effort in!!
Agreed! But have any of us sat down and written our names 250 times?
@@smartluck100 nope!! Mine would deteriorate fast!
@@smartluck100 Players back in the day signed their full name and had actual jobs in the off season...These guys today just initial the card and show zero respect for the same people who are the reason they are multi millionaires or will be....No excuses

Chris here. -that would be extremely disappointing. Potentially would really damage the topps brand.
Although I got the card I wanted, please just buy the card you want.
Absolutely!
I should put that on a shirt
Hobby at 300 500 jumbo. No way in hell. I'm buying blasters
Those prices are too much for me
Too!
Chris here - I’ll be interested to see what the Crews autos sell for but I’ll also be sitting this one out.
Thanks for watching!
Question for you - are you worried sapphire is getting overused? I am.
@@SpitballinCardsHmmm....never really thought about that. It is very popular and beautiful cards. I even bought my niece and nephew a box of 2022 Topps sapphire Garbage Pail Kids and was a huge success with them.
@@SpitballinCardsI've seen that walker Jenkins auto card pulled (/250) and I guess going for around $1000. Pretty crazy!

Phil looks like he's stewing. Definitely underwhelming card design and the refractor checklist volume is terrible. More than ever it seems to be: singles only, and maybe Bowman Draft...but holding my breath there too.
That’s the smart strategy!
Agreed. Thanks for watching!
I opened 3 blasters…Not worth the price. Started buying singles of guys I want, instead of getting more blasters.
Chris here - love that strategy!
When the refractor rainbow blows by 20, time for the singles approach!
@@DriveForShow well done by you!
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Chris here - I laughed out loud!
Thanks for watching!
Topps '24 so much better design than '24 Bowman
Chris here - agreed!
you cant keep your cake and eat it too, lol. if you want to hit a parallel at an affordable price then you have to accept dozens of parallels. no way around that. if you want less parellels then you can't have them in every box at an affordable price. if you want print runs to come down so less parallels hit more often then high box prices remove opportunity for resell. acceptance seems unavoidable if you hope to stay connected to the hobby.
Hahahaha - I’m going to keep an YeH out for any autos outside that space. Just because your comment made me laugh!
Thanks for watching!
That’s a bummer!
Hahahaha - oh man!
Chris here - I don’t know how you do it!
Can you enter the Lunar refractors during the day or do you have to wait until nighttime??
All I can say is the price is BS
Chris here - right there with you. Just too high
Chris here - can’t argue this
"Only If y'all wanna sell"..
"2021" design..
Yeah I can see that
Im not touching this bowman
