  • There is lots of confusion about the extra pulley on the front of the 1uz-fe Toyota Engines. Some think it's the water pump , No it's not a waterpump, some think its a engine oil pump , no not that either. Its for the cooling fan , yep ,a hydraulic fan pump. watch the video to find out more.

    I have a "95 SC400. My high pressure hose to the pump is leaking. My car is at The Car Care Nuts shop in Chicago. That hose is unobtainable. He has purchased 4 used hoses trying to find one that doesn't leak. A shop local to him quoted him $1200 to make one. The 4th hose is enroute to him now. If it doesn't pass pressure testing he is going to ship me one of the bad ones and I'm going to a local shop to see if they can beat his $1200 local quote. Parts scarcity has me seriously considering selling the car as bad as I hate to. Incredibly clean, 115K miles, just a gorgeous car.

    I had no idea there are so many different variations of the hydraulic fans. My SC400 has a hydraulic fan and I love it. My Gs400's and Gs430 have electric fans.

      The hydraulic fans certainly move lots of air. My understanding is once they when 3uz the hydraulic fan was no longer used. Well ive only seen electric fan 3uz anyway. Two more arrived last week for upcoming jobs. Is your gs400 a vvti? Cheers

    Should I be able to grab the hydraulic fan while the motor is running? Recently noticed slowly overheating while sitting. Grabbed my fan and it fully stopped and didn't spin until I pushed it.

    This video is great. I am chasing one of those hydraulic fan pulleys for my uzz30 soarer. I can’t find one anywhere here in Australia. Mine is a bit worn and it could be the reason why I keep shredding drive belts as they push back towards the motor. Any suggestions would be great?

    Read somewhere that the hydraulic fan pump can be repurposed as a power steering pump... always wondered how true that was.

    • @CartuneNZ
      @CartuneNZ  5 лет назад +1

      The stock pressures are quite different between the hydraulic fan pump and the powersteer pump. It is quite likely possible to do some mods to the fan pump in the valving to allow higher pressures and you have some control using the solenoid. I've never tried and never seen it done myself yet. Most of the time if we can't fit a powersteer pump then an electric unit is the solution which we go for. cheers

      If you have a hydraulic fan, and you replace the hydraulic pump with a fan idler pulley the hydraulic fan will no longer operate.

    hey! i just came across your channel and you’ve been really helpful with troubleshooting my car. i have a 92 SC400 that overheats while at idle, but not while driving. it also stutters quite a bit unless i floor it. any ideas of what it could possibly be? cheers from vegas!

    • @CartuneNZ
      @CartuneNZ  3 года назад +2

      Hello. I do some testing. Overheating at idle and not while driving indicates an air flow issue , most likely due to a fan not working. I would confirm the hydraulic fan is cutting in at idle and flowing plenty of air. Its possible to power it up directly to test too. Spluttering I would check fuel flow on both low and high speed , check fuel pump controller , ecu and AFM. Cheers Kelvin

    hey buddy. i have a 1uzfe ls400 non vvti. someone told me mine is clutch type. do u know if this is correct? how would i know if mine is bad or needs replacment thnx for all ur knowledge.

    • @CartuneNZ
      @CartuneNZ  5 лет назад

      Generally the Ls400 have the viscous type fan. Easiest way to tell is open the bonnet and have a look. There is a simple test by stopping it turning as engine warms and when hot you should not be able to hold it still. Dont use your hands as it can do harm if you dont know how to do it correctly. If unsure best take to a mechanic. Cheers Kelvin.

      I have on the 2004 hilux onwards as they have a bit more room. The 3uz prado and fj40 also have one on them. Early hilux is a bit tight without frontal mods so rarely used. The fans work really well. Cheers Kelvin.

      Hello Ryan. Its tricky for me as different models in different markets dont always follow what we see here. Do you think yours is standard with electrics? As ive never seen that on an early LS. The norm is viscous on engine with electrics on front of rad for a/c . Sometimes I trace numbers back but even toyota listings arent always right. I'd like to see some photos of yours. Cheers.
