I saw both Vanessa on Broadway and Chita in DC. Both brought amazing quality to the role Vanessa with her voice, Chita with her dancing. But I still get chills when I watch this video. Vanessa is Fabulous
I saw Vanessa Williams a few years ago at the Paris In Las Vegas, the night I was leaving to come home.. It was divine intervention . She brought tears to my eyes there
i dont know whats in this performance but i love it so much...i love her when she is singing songs from her musical...children will listen from into the woods is also my other favorite
There are three things I absolutely HAVE to do before I die, meet and interview Beyonce, see Julie Andrews sing live, and see Vanessa on Broadway, or at an intimate setting like her last album release party. My three favorite women IN THE BUSINESS
Now every time I hear her sing this song. I can't help but to think about the interview where Darius de hass was making fun of her (in good spirits) about how when she first started the show she couldn't hit the last note and she tried to change it.
i can see what ya mean. they both have totally different voices. Donna is a soprano and Vanessa is an alto. The song was originally written for Chita Rivera, who is also an alto. it's definitely a case of preference on this one. i'm a fan of all three versions!
All I keep seeing here are Chita Rivera's version on stage...is it possible to see when Vanessa had her part? I mean, this clip is amazing beyond belief, but I still so want to see her in full costume on stage...she must have been stunning. Much as I respect and like Miss Rivera...I love VW more. lol
Was this performance before she went into the show? I'm just curious because this is the original key, but she did it a third higher which is was much more suited for her voice.
@pjsloves5 It was just a suggestion. As much as I admire her ,I wouldn't want to sound as though I'm criticizing her . I definatly didn't want to offend anyone.
@actornewbs Which 'London version' do you mean? Chita (and Brent Carver) headed the original cast, which had done try-outs in Toronto and a six-month run in London before heading to New York. The 'London cast' (ie, a cast of largely British performers headed by Bebe Neuwurth) took over when Chita and the original members left for Broadway. Chita was subsequently replaced by Vanessa Williams on Broadway when 'Kiss' went on the road (with Chita).
I know she doesn't sing, but if she gave a concert again like she did in May of 2010 or 2011, I'd go even if the choir and whatnot sung more than she "spoke/sung"
You must be joking. I saw them both and Williams looked lovely but was dull and had a very inconsistent accent...as is evident in this song. Williams was also very boring.
Nick Mayor I'm with Fox 100%. Vanessa is a singer who dances where Chita is a dancer who sings. I'm not sure what your referring to regarding the accent. There is no accent. During the film reel segment Vanessa does a very heavy over the top accent for comedic effect. Where Chita didn't even attempt one.
Are you kidding me? Vanessa sing well is a fact, but Chita interpreted, with her voice, her body and her face. Vanessa just sing, well, but nothing more....
Not to ruin your dreams much or anything, but Julie Andrews doesn't sing anymore. She was having surgery on her vocal chords and something got messed up so she is unable to sing anymore pretty much.
I would bet the same quacks in England's hospital who ruined Julie's voice, are the same quacks who ruined Phil Collins' back so he can no longer play the drums. Two great legends silenced by inadequate and shoddy healthcare.
Im really trying to understand how they will feet this song to Jennifer in the new adaptation. I dont think I remember any song that she sang close to this. But she is working with a very well voice couching in her life and she improved a lot, so maybe they will think together about something.
Is this really bad lip-syncing, or is the sound just out of time with the video? Either way, she sounds good in the song. I doubt she had the same dancing chops Chita did, but I'm sure she brought her own special gifts to the role. I found I had to have both B'way cast recordings, & both are wonderful, w. strong casts, each including some material the other doesn't. So glad they sprang for a second recording.
I saw both Rivera and Williams several times. No one ever compares with Rivera, a star with no peer in history. Williams was actually boring, looked sensational, danced BRILLIANTLY but was a real snooze, especially transitioning between Aurora's personas.
No one sings this better than the Austrian Romina Stella from MS Artania Showensemble. In comparison, this attempt at a 'Spider-Woman' is simply pathetic. What a pity. Romina, we love you❤…
Great performance. One of the most versatile performers in the world of show business: singer, actress, Broadway standout, dancer, she can do it all.
Voice, acting, gown, beauty, talent, stage presence...STAR!!!!!!! ⭐️ 🎶🎭❤️
I saw both Vanessa on Broadway and Chita in DC. Both brought amazing quality to the role Vanessa with her voice, Chita with her dancing. But I still get chills when I watch this video. Vanessa is Fabulous
~Saw this in NYC in 95 I believe it was. She was INCREDIBLE! She is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS and she danced her ass off...what a spectacular performance!
I saw Vanessa Williams a few years ago at the Paris In Las Vegas, the night I was leaving to come home.. It was divine intervention . She brought tears to my eyes there
Second time I've heard this song - absolutely LOVE this rendition!
Always wanted to see this live! Thank Hod for RUclips videos!❤
I love you, you starred on Broadway the only time I've ever been to New York City !
actually her fierceness and anger and power reminds me wilhelmina :D i love her sooo soo much
i dont know whats in this performance but i love it so much...i love her when she is singing songs from her musical...children will listen from into the woods is also my other favorite

Wow just wow
Thank you Katy Keene for introducing me to this amazing song!
I remember a totally different costume, she should be Broadway forever.
@theatrecr8zy for a Dutch Musical event in a concert hall/arena, showcasing musical songs, she was the special guest, back in 2006
Vanessa!!
This was my first professional show to work on and it was the most amazing experience.. (obviously another company... Not the Vanessa original...)
Really like VW, but once you've heard Chita Rivera, there's no going back - I did, in London - Masterpiece!
she can really sing.....
I would have ended that last note with a devilish laugh.
As much as I LOVE Vanessa, I personally feel like Donna Murphy performed this song a little bit better.

Nicole Scherzinger kills this too
I love this bizarre accent she chose.
@WillieRoxs yes thanks for reminding me, I will upload 'New York New York" ...she also did Colors of the Wind and I can't find it on my hard drive!
This performance reminds me of Ursula in the little mermaid...It's delicious
Wow
Yeh ~~

She was boring but her dancing was fabulous. She looked great but sang the role like she was reading the phone book.
so sinister
There is a recording available with her in the show.
Was this performance before she went into the show? I'm just curious because this is the original key, but she did it a third higher which is was much more suited for her voice.
Many years after.
You must find Colors of the wind please! really want to see it

Вау в этот голос можно влюбится )))
Vanessa Vanessa Vanessa. I liked her interpretation better than Chita's as welll.

What?!!! Check those ears
Are you kidding me? Vanessa sing well is a fact, but Chita interpreted, with her voice, her body and her face. Vanessa just sing, well, but nothing more....
What song is this? "Come"?
"Kiss Of The Spider Woman" this is the titular song!
@fatheranthony4pope it's based of a movie
Why don't they make this into a movie?
From what year is it?
what was this for??
"Kiss of Spider Woman" has been stolen from Michael Jary's "Davon geht die Welt nicht unter" - all without ever crediting him!
@enolamsamoht well then why aren't you on broadway?
Not to ruin your dreams much or anything, but Julie Andrews doesn't sing anymore. She was having surgery on her vocal chords and something got messed up so she is unable to sing anymore pretty much.

Tearing down one women to lift another is sad.
Jennifer Lopez is set to ruin this musical…..
Im sure it will be a real snooze fest with Jennifer
