"This is a complete bodge." 😁 Your honesty and humour makes me smile Timm! I was thinking of having a muffler delete on my e64 650i but this might be a good alternative.
I remember sometime in the late 80s, driving my banger down to Leicester, being overtaken at speed by a 325i. It went Whoosh! I was impressed. It wasn't making a farting noise. Had it done so, I probably wouldn't have gotten into BMWs as I later did.
Hi Timm, im really enjoying watching your back catalogue of videos; so informative and easy to listen to. I bought a 645ci on the strength of your reviews (couldn't find a cheap tax 650!). I followed your drilling instructions, and drilled the righthand muffler on my 2004 645ci. I couldn't detect any sound difference. I poked an endoscope down the pipe to check the hole and I'm fairly sure I've drilled through the inner pipe, but its made no difference to the sound. I found another RUclips video where a guy shows what the muffler looks like inside. Each muffler has three chambers inside, on the lefthand muffler the inner dividing walls between the chambers are perforated. I've drilled into the front chamber of the righthand muffler, but it doesn't look like the dividing wall of the chamber is perforated, which would explain why my hole didn't make any difference. So either i've misunderstood something or your 650 has a different muffler to my (and the other guys) 645 muffler. Link to video showing cutaways in the following comment:
Hi Timm, I am going to buy a 2007 (60k km ) e64 630, any suggestions to me( as a Z4 e85 2.5 driver) to take care of this lovely 6, thank you in advance.
Hello Danny, I have had very few actual engine problems - other bits fail like the coolant hoses, auxiliary pump and PCV valves but no major work ever needed
Hi Timm! Tried doing this on my E38 and unfortunately I can’t get my drill up into the downturned pipe. Any suggestions on the E38? If I can I’d like to have this exhaust sound but still hide the pipes under the rear valence.
@@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation darn, my state requires no visible modifications to the exhaust, including welds on the muffler. Maybe one day I’ll drop the exhaust and put in a set of good mufflers and make it look stock.
@@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation thanks for the reply. Id love to see a comparison between the various 6 series models. I recently sold a z4 with the older 3 litre 189bhp straight six and had no major issues in 2 years, looking at the 630 with 265bhp or there abouts im thinking ok its not as fast as the v8 but the engines seem less prone to issues and as we know when cars get cheaper a lot of owners don't bother to look after them properly. Im also considering the 635d, I never liked diesels much but my partner had an x6 with the 4d engine and it went pretty well and didn't even sound half bad other than at idle. Also not sure if the steering wheel paddle shifts were an option all the way through or only on face-lift cars? Where did you learn all the stuff you know about these cars so I don't keep pestering you with comments?
Man..I really appreciate you and your videos..thanks for taking you time to teach us your knowledge 👍
My pleasure!

You're not wrong there - a complete bodge, but I love bodges that work!

I think the lefthand muffler is at 1:25, and shows why you'd end up in the outside world. The righthand muffler is at 1:40 (I think).
The rear boxes are unique to the 650i according to RealOEM so possibly they are different to the 645.......
Thank you for the upload sir, really enjoyable!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Timm, is this possible on the 640D models?
Sure to have a different back box, so I don't know!
@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation
I can confirm, this can be done on a 2016 640D GC
Did it two weeks ago haha! Cheers Timm
Any difference in terms of side on the left hand drive version in the US?
I don't think so - the same part number for the right exhaust is the same in the USA as it is on my car David.
I have question do you have many problems with engine ? And what you think what it's better joice 645 o 650 ? Thanks
Hello Danny, I have had very few actual engine problems - other bits fail like the coolant hoses, auxiliary pump and PCV valves but no major work ever needed
@@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation I've just heard about these things and wanted to be sure, thank you very much
so it can only be done on the right hand side ?
Yes, right side only - the left one is constructed differently
AWESOME!
Thanks Eric!

On the E38 the exit pipes have to be removed first.

Why only one side though 🤔
Because the back-box on the right is constructed differently, a hole made using the same method ends up on the outside!
@@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation I seeeee why not just put them in the pipes them selfs no one will see them anyway
Hahaha excellent job 😎
Thanks Danny!
Trying to talk myself into the safe(er?) option of buying a 630i but listening to that makes me think v8 v8 v8
Go on Andy, it's always been the V8!
