Exactly this. He is the type of character that you can pick once, absolutely blow someone up for two stocks, then have the other person almost come back, only for you to clutch it out in a last-stock-last-hit scenario... and then immediately put him away, never to play again.

King Dededes most powerful tool in his arsenal is his crouch. Has a chance to whip some people up into a frenzy and make mistakes when used right.
As a DeDeDe main since Smash 4, my thoughts on the King:
His ledgetraps are his bread and butter, as they're going to be the way you get kills.
Uptilt is your best kill move, as it's fast and hits a reasonable area.
DeDeDe has a problem with killing people in general. His faster moves often don't kill until the early-mid hundreds, so reads and traps are necessary to actually land stocks
It will never not be funny when people attempt to stage spike my recovery -- it just doesn't work.
He gets absolutely shit on by anyone with an option above like 6 frames, which is like most of mid and all of the higher tiers.
Final assessment:
DeDeDe currently ledge trapping? Godlike character.
Any other time? oh god please stop comboing me, I just want to play the game please--
Despite all his flaws he's still my favorite character
I feel like Gordo should have a damage threshold before being deflected, its too silly that 1 falco laser will deflect it.
@@sireacquirees maybe make it so the Gordo gets deflected back IF the attack is decently strong, otherwise it just disappears without bouncing back at Dedede, or maybe if the attack is like a weak energy projectile of sorts (Fire, light, electricity, etc.) the Gordo cancels them out and keeps bouncing, making it a bit like a short lasting anti projectile spam barrier you can remove by whacking it right back at him
Nothing about his up-air? Whenever I play DDD against my friends, I find myself favoring U-air for kills around 100 and racking up dmg at low percents
@@SpeedShadow54 it's pretty good but quite slow and if you DI it properly it won't kill until 120 ish on mid weights
I love when you toss a gordo at someone, it hits their projectile, then ricochets towards them somehow, doing a bazillion damage

im actually so surprised how dedede's gordo acts quite nicely in his favor most of the time, especailly with ledge trapping
Gordo also has the property where it becomes a heat seeking fucking missile when it gets reflected back at you
@@ChrisPBacon-zf5gm was just about to say this, and the fact that in Kirby games Gordo is an unstoppable force of nature with all seeing eyes but in smash Gordo decided to be a ping ping ball and actively seek out its master for security when someone breaths on it

Cons about dedede: almost everything
Pros: he's a penguin and beat mkleo's smash 4 cloud
And has the 4th strongest default attack in the game ( fsmash )

Gordo Toss accepts Smash inputs too in addition to up, down, and forward, so there are actually 6 different inputs. Also, short hopping them messes with timing and angles even more, so it's honestly more like 12. Also, for any Deeds out there, if you're gonna take a projectile hit after you've already started a Gordo Toss, if you correct to an Up angle Toss just before getting hit, since it is slightly slower to start, you can have the neutral Gordo you just spawned take the projectile hit, then you swing to hit it a split second later, but right after the projectile had already hit so your throwing hitbox counts as the second hit on the Gordo, rather than the first, meaning it is now considered a reflected Gordo and since you 'reflected it' with your hit, it won't get smacked into you, but instead will auto-target the opponent, just like if they had hit it back at you. If anyone's ever been playing or fighting DeDeDe and you thought you interrupted his Toss with a projectile only for him to not get hit and instead have the Gordo instantly auto-target and fly directly towards you, this is why. We can pull it back slightly with up Toss to cause this weird interaction. It's ultra precise and kind of unreliable, but it's a thing you might as well go for if you know you're gonna get hit. Sometimes you'll just get out of jail free.
Was just about to comment something similar to your topline. Fullhop gordos can be useful as well, and have different properties than short hop gordos. 18, but really kinda infinite.
I can definitely see how Dedede os frustrating to play as because he has to move almost completely different than most other characters, and more times than not he is almost completely helpless against a good enough zoner. I think Dedede is mostly a superheavy buster because his range is typically better than most. A good Buff for dedede would either be a slight buff to his dash speed, less end lag on his inhale, or maybe a higher damage cap for reflecting his gordos. I played dedede since brawl and I think his poor neutral game makes him less than desirable for a lot of people. I still love him so much though.

Who can hit the gordo is dependent on who "owns" the gordo. D3 automatically possesses gordo ownership upon deployment and can only inhale it to change its trajectory. however his opponent can hit the gordo and claim ownership. D3 can only hit the gordo with strikes if the opponent hits it, claiming "ownership"

DDD can also send gordo at different angles with c stick. How many frames you hold c stick for effects the angle as well. 1 frame c stick flicks give the fastest gordo speed(without inhaling) and the biggest arc when bouncing. he has dozens of gordo angles to choose from. still a bad character though
I think the Gordos further solidify his status as a "boss" character in this game, like Bowser's Tough Guy, Ganon's Smash Attacks and Sephiroth's One Winged Angel just to name a few.

I've mained Dedede since Sm4sh! Seeing this from such a great creator makes me happy. I picked up D3 because he's a fat penguin from some of my first played games, and I love him.

I'm a Dedede main, and have been since I bought Ultimate. I don't know how to describe it effectively, but there's a specific groove that Dedede can get into where he can overwhelm you with huge hitboxes, multi-jump mixups and good gordo placement, which is particularly good online. Most label him as a campy, defensive character, but his advantage state and aggression are honestly super underrated. At top level this isn't the case of course, but Dedede can absolutely stomp your average elite smasher, unless they're playing a character like ZSS who gets out of Dedede's aggro for free

His jet hammer has armor too. D3 got a lot of quality of life improvements after smash like the reflector. Still amazed they buffed him at all. If gordo was buffed can you imagine the kind of bellyaching we'd hear?

he's one of the easier characters to 2 frame and his entire win condition relies on reactive camping and ledge trapping. everything else sucks balls

Im a ddd main, and one thing I think could be buffed with little issue about him and potentially change a lot is his "returning gordo" action. When someone hits your gordo back at you, if you press the attack button when the gordo is about to hit you, you grab the gordo and toss it again in the direction it came. I think that if you could control the direction of this new toss, return it quicker, get i frames/armor during the toss animation... any of these things or a combination of them would be super welcome to improve ddd's neutral.
His gameplay is about forcing reactions with gordos and baiting punish atempts that could be countered by his slower, longer reaching moves. Also his dtilt is surprisingly good for the launching angle and damage, not to mention the auto bait of coming out of his crouch xD
another thing too, if you re-input sideB you can catch the gordo and throw it back too. great for when people want to punish an inhale after hitting it back because he swings the hammer again.
Finally Larry plays a top tier.

I've been a Dedede main for about 10 years now. I've never agreed more with a video on him than I do with this one.
For me personally if I ever want a burst option when playing as Dedede I choose between run up down tilt or boost pivot forward tilt depending on if I want better frame data or longer / disjointed range
There are actually a lot more angles to throw Gordo. You can use C stick to throw it a bunch of different ways. C-stick also adds some goofy movement for it. In the air, you can also choose to fade forward or when you hit it.
Gordo should be able to take more damage before going back

one important thing about DDD larry didn't mention is that when he jumps, his hurtbox gets significantly bigger so if you jump too early when getting launched off stage you can actually end up dying a lot earlier
if you time gordo bounce with dash attack you can cover every option except dropping off ledge

My biggest concerns are that his throws aren’t reliable for killing nor do they really send far enough to set up for Ledge traps most of the time. Being able to kill would be nice while also having the side effect of if they didn’t kill you can go for the ledge trap stuff. F tilt, due to multihits is kinda weak, and the knockback does little to nothing, so I think a faster poking tool to control a good amount of space that can actually kill at reasonable %s would also help with his ground game. Nair, as you said, is actually a big flaw in his kit that I really hope they fix, but seeing as they treat Kirby characters I doubt they will (Kirby Fthrow been flawed since Day 1). And this also goes for Kirby, But the charging hammer stuff can be decent if they go about buffing them the right way, I just feel they take too long to charge, and maybe could use some more armor to make it easier to get in on someone.

Dedede has so many slight variations in gordo toss that I'm pretty sure he has at least 50-100.

11:50 to add to this, Dedede's nair has a unique weakness in that it has transcendent priority (for some reason) meaning that it will never clank with things like weak projectiles and attacks, and will instead always get beaten out by them.
Actually the initial hit of nair can beat out Snake's up-smash pretty consistently without damaging D3, though Idk if that's something most of the cast can do already (and is probably the only thing nair has priority over with in the first place.)

and at least in smash 4 it goes faster if you do a smash input than if you do a tilt input (kinda like chakram)
Fun fact: gordo has WAY more than 3 angles. C stick tilt let’s you micro-adjust gordo’s angle infinitely
